Chapter 841 Temptation

Chapter 841 Temptation
Xue Se was well aware of how terrifying the forest was, and her tone was firm. Dr. Gao didn't know how the other party had come to this conclusion.

"Have you been in there?"

“If I had been inside, I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you right now.” Xue Se didn’t continue the topic: “We can talk about the forest later. What you need to do now is join the ethics monitoring group, get close to Bu Chuangye, and see what that guy does every day and whether he has any hidden, unreported personalities.”

"You suspect he has other personalities?"

“Dr. Bu’s behavior is somewhat disjointed; his life can be divided into two phases.” Xue Se reached out and divided the documents on the table into two parts: “Before joining the Moral Supervision Group, he could at most be considered a relatively good doctor, but after joining the group, his intelligence, ambition, and ability far surpassed his previous level. Every step of his plan was meticulously planned, and he broke through the ranks of so many group members to become a trainer. I have reason to suspect that he has awakened a second personality.”

After taking a sip of tea, Xue Se continued, "According to the latest regulations issued by the Human Rights Commission, every personality enjoys equal rights and will bear equal responsibility for their crimes. In other words, if one personality commits a crime, all personalities will be punished. Those who conceal their personality information will be treated as potential criminals."

"Understood. I will try to get close to him, but don't get your hopes up too high. Dr. Bu is cautious by nature and will hardly reveal any flaws."

"That's why we need you to work harder." Xue Se asked the young police officer to pour Dr. Gao a glass of water. "Go for it. The police will protect your family. If Bu is arrested, we will support you to take over from him and become the new instructor."

What Xue Se confessed was extremely dangerous; he wanted to recruit Dr. Gao as an informant.

“Bu’s identity is very special. We can’t get close to him to keep an eye on him. We can only set up surveillance on the periphery. If you find anything, make a call and I will bring people over immediately.”

After drinking the water on the table, Dr. Gao mentioned the forest a few more times, but seeing that Xue Se had no interest, he left helplessly.

Back home, Grandpa's head was wrapped in bandages, and he was coaxing Mom to eat.

"You got off work quite early today. Did you see your uncle? He went to apply for a security guard job in the community." Grandpa put down his spoon and bowl, and seemed to be in a better mood.

"No."

"Is this little bastard lying to me again?" My uncle had no reputation whatsoever in my grandfather's eyes.

"Given the intelligence my three uncles inherited from you, they should be able to try some more technically demanding jobs." Dr. Gao entered his room, took out his key, sat in front of the wardrobe, and pieced together the fragmented information in his mind.

"It seems like it's time to take the final step..."

The clock on the wall continued to tick backwards as the sun set and the streetlights came on, until the night was deep and quiet.

After a busy day, the uncle sneaked back home. He didn't dare turn on the lights, so he used an old-fashioned cell phone for light. The screen flickered, and he saw someone sitting in the living room.

"Who?!"

"Uncle, I need to go out and take care of something. Will you come with me?" Dr. Gao stood up and picked up the large garbage bag that his father had left by the door. It was full of clinking bottles, but the clinking sound wasn't as crisp as when the bottles were empty.

"What's wrong? Does Uncle need to come in person?"

"This is a big deal, a huge deal." Dr. Gao dragged a black garbage bag to the door: "Tell my second uncle and eldest uncle to be on their toes. If this isn't handled well, I might end up like my grandmother."

In this family, Grandma is a taboo subject, and everyone consciously avoids mentioning her when they are sober. Now that Dr. Gao has spoken up, it seems he has indeed encountered a lot of trouble. "Come on, your uncle will go with you." His eyes instantly lost their warmth, as if he were not alive, and his tone was stiff and cold. This was his uncle, who rarely showed his face.

"Change into the same clothes as me." After Dr. Gao finished dressing, he had his uncle lead the old horse, and the group ran to Pig Village, which was far from the Autopsy Avenue. They fed the animals living there with the garbage they had taken from their father's room, and then stole a resident's clothes.

The residents of Pig Village are generally not very intelligent. They come out to forage for food in the middle of the night and will eat any kind of garbage. Some people who are treated as garbage will also disappear at night. They are natural cleaners and do many jobs that no one else wants to do, such as being responsible for transporting garbage and waste from various residential areas late at night.

After doing all that, they returned to the Human Entrance Hospital. Dr. Gao greeted Dr. Chi, who was on duty, and the two exchanged work badges with perfect understanding.

Despite the doctor's deliberate disregard, Dr. Gao entered the dean's ward and, together with his uncle, took away the brains numbered two.

“Uncle, tonight I will take you to the Institute of Ethics for brain-sharing. I have already taught you how to activate the device, so please be careful.” Dr. Gao was carrying two sealed storage containers.

"Could you say it again? I am your uncle."

At midnight, everyone arrived outside the Institute of Ethics. Dr. Gao covered his face, hunched over, changed into Pig Village's clothes, and made a phone call to Bu Cuncun from a public phone booth.

"Who is this?" There was also a faint, suppressed panting sound coming from the receiver, which was difficult to stop and was probably related to taking some kind of medication.

"it's me."

"Dr. Gao? Have you arrived at the lab? The security personnel have been drugged, and there are some problems with the surveillance. Today is a good day for brain-computer interfaces." Dr. Bu's voice was calm on the phone, while the panting sound came from someone else.

“Tonight’s event has been canceled. I’m being followed by the Shanghai police, who are leading me toward the forest.” Dr. Gao noticed the background noise in the microphone. He remembered that after Dr. Bu became a trainer in the ethics supervision group, he began to “keep himself clean” and supported three partners who all lived in the most upscale neighborhood on Autopsy Avenue.

"The police?" Dr. Bu's tone changed. "Why would they be investigating you?"

“I don’t know, but you’d better pray I don’t get caught. Some of the data from the shared brain and some of your previous records are on me.” Dr. Gao also knew that Dr. Bu had a habit of indulging himself more when making important decisions. He was a humanoid monster with his whole body wrapped in umbilical cords.

"Didn't you just say this morning that it was the last time you threatened me?" Dr. Bu's voice was like a saw cutting through glass: "Give me a specific location, and I'll find someone to help you get away."

"They're coming to the edge of the forest..."

After hanging up the phone, Dr. Gao stepped out of the phone booth, lay on all fours on the ground, and lowered his head: "Better safe than sorry. Go into the stairwell next door and keep an eye on your surroundings from a higher vantage point. See if there's anything unusual."

"Doctor, do you realize you're a pig? Why are you wearing pig village clothes? Those guys eat everything, their appetites are more complex than a human's."

"Shut up."

After waiting for a few minutes at the high vantage point, the side door of the research institute opened silently, and several caregivers in black coats emerged, carrying what appeared to be body bags. It was unclear whether they were going to rescue someone or to collect a body.
