After returning to the territory and meeting the sheep boss who was riding a water-drawing bicycle, the first thing Xia Qing did was to run to the breeding greenhouse to check how many chicks had hatched this afternoon.

There were a total of twenty eggs in the first brooding hen's nest. As of noon today, eight chicks had hatched.

When Xia Qing rushed to the breeding greenhouse, eight of the nine hens were squatting in the nest, incubating eggs seriously. One hens was strolling outside. The ten eggs it was responsible for were crowded in the nest, looking lonely.

Xia Qing stared at the wandering hen and said viciously, "Boss, did you see that guy? If he fails to hatch any chickens in a few days, kill him and make soup!"

"Mee." The eldest sheep who was strolling with Xia Qing responded, but his eyes were fixed on the hen.

Xia Qing's eyes also turned to the wings of the hen, where a small, furry, yellow head with red dots was exposed. The other chicks were hidden so tightly that they could not be seen at all.

Xia Qing turned on the lights to feed the chickens. The hen left her nest to eat at the trough. Nine chicks followed her mother, each of them fluffy and cute. The little hen without the red spot on its head had just hatched this afternoon.

The adult chickens eat the feed in the trough, while the chicks have to go into the fine-toothed cage next to the chicken coop and eat the chick feed specially prepared by Xia Qing.

Chicken feed is a mixture of dried mealworms, finely crushed corn crumbs, finely chopped vegetable leaves and unpolluted spring water.

When the chicks with red dots on their heads went into the cage to peck at the feed, the newly hatched chick also left its mother hen and followed its brothers and sisters into the cage.

Before it could peck at the food, Xia Qing reached in from the top of the cage, grabbed it out, and fed it medicine to open its mouth.

Raising chicks is not all about having a hen to take care of them. From birth to one month old, the chicks need to be fed medicine and vaccinated.

The opening medicine is a dropper that is dripped directly into the mouth and every newly hatched chick must eat it. It can expel fetal toxins, effectively prevent and treat diseases such as white diarrhea and chicken enteritis caused by evolved bacteria, activate the body's immune system, and improve the chick's disease resistance and survival rate.

After feeding the chicken the medicine, Xia Qing gently pinched the chicken's beak and dripped a drop of medicine into its small nostrils. After the chicken absorbed the medicine, Xia Qing used a wooden stick dipped in red dye to draw a big red dot on its head, indicating that the chicken with black stripes around its eyes and back had been fed the medicine and completed the initial vaccination.

She gently touched the chick's soft body and fur, and after making sure it had swallowed the medicine, she put the little guy into the cage and let it eat and drink water with the other chicks.

Eating is an animal instinct that we are born with.

Xia Qing was so happy to see the little guys, who were no bigger than a fist, pecking at the feed and drinking water. She didn't expect that after entering the territory, the first cub she caught was not a wolf or a weasel, but a chick.

The chicks became lively after eating. The full chickens held their heads high and clucked softly a few times. Then the chicks crawled out of the cage to find their mother.

After the egret chicken and its chicks walked around the chicken coop twice, they returned to the nest to continue incubating eggs. Some of the chicks burrowed into their mother's feathers to sleep, while others strolled outside.

Xia Qing carefully observed the other hens brooding on their nests, fed the rabbits and fish, then picked a handful of alfalfa and took three eggs home to cook.

When Xia Qing passed the entrance of the sheep shed, he stopped and listened carefully. He found something was wrong. The sheep shed was too quiet. There was no squeaking of weasel pups or rustling sounds of them crawling on the grass!
Xia Qing called softly, "Is the plucker, Little White Hair, here?"

After calling out three times and hearing no sound from inside, Xia Qing turned on the surveillance camera and found that the cardboard boxes and haystacks in the sheep shed were all clean, without a single weasel.

She took out her cell phone and dragged the progress bar of the surveillance video. She soon discovered that at 4:30 this afternoon, shortly after she went to Wolf Valley, the plucked weasel returned to the sheep shed dragging a big magpie.

About half an hour later, it came out with half of the magpie's body that had been plucked of its long feathers, and placed it on the straw mat in front of Xia Qing's house. Then, the weasel, who always had a smile on his face, straightened his long body and stood in front of her door for a full minute before returning to the sheep shed. Not long after, the plucked weasel carried three little weasels on his back, and Little White Hair carried two little weasels on his back and walked out of the sheep shed and out of the yard.

Xia Qing went back, froze the frame, and zoomed in to carefully examine the weasel cubs on Little White Hair's body. The two little weasels, clinging tightly to their mother's back with their little claws, finally opened their eyes that had been closed for a month and looked wetly in the direction of the camera.

Xia Qing switched the camera and saw the weasel family leave the village from the east side, head north, and climb over the iron mesh wall.

After the cubs opened their eyes and passed the most dangerous period, the weasel couple took them away from human territory.

Because Xia Qing had entered the two weasels into the monitoring system, the camera did not issue a warning to her after capturing the weasels.

They didn't leave without saying goodbye on purpose, but when it was time for them to leave, Xia Qing happened to not be in the territory.

Where was the half-plucked magpie that the plucked weasel had placed in front of her door?

Xia Qing turned on the camera at home and clicked fast forward. Fifteen minutes after the weasel family left, a red squirrel jumped down from the roof and took the magpie away.

Xia Qing froze the picture again, carefully observing the red squirrel's elongated body as it jumped, and found that its abdomen was obviously bulging.

This little guy must be pregnant, so he needs nutrition. Xia Qing decided to let him go this time and not search his house.

"Boss, the plucker and the little white-haired one are gone." Xia Qing returned to the house and told his companions the news, "It seems that they think our house is a postpartum care center."

The sheep boss who was riding the electric bicycle might not understand what Xia Qing was saying, but he could see or hear that Xia Qing was not in a good mood.

After Xia Qing took off her protective suit, washed and changed her clothes and went into the kitchen, Yang Lao Da also got off his bicycle and stood at the kitchen door, chewing his food while watching her cook.

Before she had no companions, Xia Qing didn't feel lonely; now that she has companions, she realizes that she also needs company. Sheep Boss is not smart enough, but he will always be by Xia Qing's side, making her feel at ease.

Hearing it coming, Xia Qing chatted with it casually, "I accepted a piece of Yishi from the queen, and only took care of the white-haired mother and child for a few days, and they left. I didn't even eat the eggs tonight. Boss, do you think the queen will come over to take the Yishi back after she finds out?"

"Hey." The sheep boss responded.

"No way?! Do you really think so?" Xia Qing cut the washed alfalfa leaves into pieces and put them into a bowl. He cracked two eggs into the bowl and added salt and stirred them evenly. "The Queen is a respectable wolf standing at the top of the pyramid after all. She would not do such a thing."

"Bah."

"Fuck-"

The alfalfa and egg liquid was poured into the oil pan, making a pleasant sound and the fragrance soon wafted out.

Xia Qing shoveled the fried alfalfa eggs into the bowl. "They left at a very bad time. I'm going to dig bamboo shoots tomorrow. I was planning to bring back some bamboo rats for them as a snack. Boss, I'll dig bamboo shoots for you tomorrow. Do you like bamboo shoots?"
