Chapter 762 Mars Tourism
Three days later, the Yangtze River sightseeing spacecraft successfully reached the vicinity of Mars, gradually decelerated, entered Mars geosynchronous orbit, and entered the Polaris space dock. Tourists participating in the Mars tour will rest for one night at the Polaris dock, and then split into several groups, each boarding a small shuttle to land on the Martian surface, beginning their magical two-week Martian journey.
The Polaris space dock, belonging to Radar Space Corporation, is a multi-functional integrated space building. While its primary function is to construct various types of spacecraft, it also serves as a tourist accommodation facility for space visitors. On the Mars-facing side of the dock, there are over 500 individual rooms, half of which serve as living quarters for the dock's staff, while the remaining half are luxuriously furnished and used as guest rooms in space.
As the big boss of Rida Aerospace Company, Qiao Ruida naturally stayed in the only presidential suite. It had three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, plus a small conference room, with a total area of over 200 square meters, which was considered luxurious in the space where every inch of land was precious.
Shortly after disembarking from the spaceship, Joreda was summoned to a meeting by the dockyard manager and several other key managers to report to him. Since Joreda had finally made it to Mars, no one wanted to miss this opportunity to impress the big boss. Du Qingqing, having no intention of getting involved in company management, didn't accompany Joreda to the tedious work meeting, but instead took her two children to the presidential suite to rest.
A female receptionist escorted Du Qingqing and her companions to the presidential suite, then bowed and said, "Madam Chairman, and young master and young lady, this is the only presidential suite on the Polaris spaceship dock. It has been unoccupied since its construction. Would you like me to show you the layout and facilities of the room?"
Two male receptionists carried the suitcases brought by the Joreda family into their room and then bowed as they left.
"No need for an introduction, you can go and rest now." Du Qingqing waved her hand, indicating that the receptionist could leave.
"Yes, Madam Chairman, if you need anything, please press the call bell behind the door. I will be ready to assist you at any time." The receptionist bowed and left the room.
"Wow, this room is huge! No wonder it's a presidential suite. It's much bigger than the rooms we stayed in on the spaceship."
When there are outsiders around, the two little ones become much more well-behaved, behaving like good boys (or girls). As soon as the outsiders leave, the two little ones immediately revert to their old ways, running around and exploring the room with great joy.
"Huh, is this a floor-to-ceiling window? Why are the curtains drawn in broad daylight? Let me pull back the curtains and see what's outside the floor-to-ceiling window?"
"Ahhh, Mom, come quick! This floor-to-ceiling window faces Mars perfectly. I never imagined Mars could be so desolate. That long, winding scar over there, that must be the Mariner's Canyon Dad was talking about. It's truly magnificent!" The window is made of special materials, making it sturdy, durable, radiation-proof, and with excellent light transmission. It was afternoon, with the sun shining obliquely on the Martian surface, reflecting an orange-red hue—a scene of exceptionally desolate yet breathtaking beauty.
"Yes, that's Mariner Canyon. It's the largest and deepest canyon on Mars and in the entire solar system. According to the itinerary, we'll have the opportunity to take a shuttle over the next few days to see Mariner Canyon up close. It's a rare opportunity, so don't forget to take pictures." This was Du Qingqing's first time seeing Martian scenery so closely. Previously, the Martian landscapes she had seen were limited to photos taken by Mars rovers—beautiful, yes, but lacking in soul. Only by standing before Mars and witnessing firsthand these breathtaking landscapes formed over millions of years of natural evolution could she truly feel the soul-stirring impact Mars has on humanity.
For the next two weeks, Joreda chartered an antigravity shuttle belonging to Reda Space Company, taking his wife and children to explore famous Martian landmarks. These included the Mariner Canyon, the largest canyon in the solar system; Olympus Mons, the tallest volcano in the solar system; the Tharsis Plateau, larger than North America; Gale Crater; the polar ice caps; and Utopia Planitia, among other areas. The family of four flew past, took photos, and occasionally, when the mood struck, the family would land on the Martian surface under the guidance of a safety officer, don extravehicular activity (EVA) suits, take photos, and collect rock samples. These seemingly unremarkable, grayish rocks of varying sizes possess significant scientific and collectible value simply because they originated on Mars. Whether kept as souvenirs or gifts for friends and family, they hold great meaning.
When the two little ones, dressed in their custom-made miniature extravehicular activity (EVA) suits, set foot on the Martian surface for the first time, they were incredibly excited. They ran and jumped across the barren landscape, excitedly examining any oddly shaped rock they saw. Joreda stayed close behind his children, ensuring their safety. After all, this is Mars; the air is thin, and the temperature is low, making it unsuitable for human survival. It was only thanks to the protection of their EVA suits that the family of four could move freely on the Martian surface. The custom-made suits were sturdy, warm, and offered maximum protection; the oxygen they carried was enough to sustain an astronaut for 24 hours. His only concern was that the two little ones, unaware of their own limitations, might overexert themselves and tear their suits, which would be dangerous.
Du Qingqing, holding a specially made camera, filmed her children and husband running across the Martian landscape, keeping it as a keepsake. When her children grow up, showing them these videos will surely be very interesting.
Of course, Mars tourism isn't just about viewing the natural Martian scenery; it also includes visiting man-made structures and facilities. Martian mining facilities, Martian robotic factories, a giant space dock under construction, and the stranded Opportunity rover, among others, have all become must-see Martian cultural attractions for tourists.
Happy times always pass quickly, and amidst the laughter of his children, their two-week Mars trip flew by. Early one morning, the Qiao family of four joined the rest of the tourists aboard the Yangtze River sightseeing spaceship, embarking on their journey back to Earth. Waving goodbye to the dockyard manager and several dockyard supervisors, Qiao took his suitcase from the staff and turned to enter the boarding passage. With a flick of his sleeve, he took away a beautiful memory. (End of Chapter)
