Chapter 334 Confrontation

Chapter 334 Confrontation
The Bone Road, formally known as the Stone Road, is sandwiched between the sea and the mountains. The city of Yronwood holds sway here, isolating Dorne from the Stormlands.

Perhaps if you go further south, the sand and gravel will be enough to dazzle your eyes, and it will be desolate and uninhabited.

But the city of Yronwood occupies one of the richest lands in Dorne, with flowing water, trees, countless mineral deposits, and even alpine meadows for dozens of miles towards the Red Mountains, where game is easy to find and the air is fresh.

This rare green land is so crowded with people that it looks like a square-shaped honeycomb when viewed from the top of the city.

"Spears and round shields, with the shields painted with gold. The Dornish have been around for many years, but the warriors are still the same." Lord Anders Yronwood whispered. He looked down and saw the black gate of Yronwood Castle facing the Dornish army in the distance.

Oberyn Martell was standing beside him. His face was solemn. He quickly took the box and said, "It is difficult to change unless there is a major conflict."

"Maybe," Earl Anders glanced at him. "No matter how big the conflict is, even if there are constant frictions between the Martell family and our Yronwood, we are still the closest lords and vassals, aren't we, Red Viper?" The Earl turned and left the city wall.

Oberyn quickly said yes and followed the earl.

His squire Daemon followed behind Oberyn, pursing his lips and not daring to speak.

Oberyn can be domineering anywhere, but he can't do that here, in Fort Yronwood. It can even be said that Oberyn dare not be presumptuous here.

Old stories are like old wine; you don’t have to say they are mellow when you drink them.

Oberyn took over the wine serving, poured the wine, and handed it to Count Anders.

"Drink it," Earl Anders waved his hand. He turned his head and looked out the window. The sound of the sea floated through the window. Just by listening to the sound, it seemed as if he could see the deep blue and white ocean. "You Martells are probably going to pour wine for the people of Yronwood."

Oberyn forced a smile. Quentyn Martell was Lord Anders's cupbearer.

He asked, "Quentin, have you set off?"

"It's been half a month since we set out. What happens on the sea is not the business of us sand-playing people. Life and death will naturally be decided by the gods."

Hearing such negative words, Oberyn couldn't help but frown. He picked up the wine and swallowed it. It felt like sand and gravel passing through his throat, making him feel hot and uncomfortable. He coughed several times and finally realized that it was because Count Anders didn't want to drink this glass of wine.

"Ahem! Ahem! I hope he can help us solve this problem. May he be blessed."

Count Anders closed his eyes and muttered something as if he was praying to God.

The earl's eldest son was also in the boat, and Oberyn realized this, so he said nothing, but sat quietly, leaving his glass on the table without moving it.

Soon the Count asked, "How soon will we set out?"

"Wait for news from Eagle's Nest Castle."

"There are only 6,000 troops in the Bone Road. Are you sure you can take down Storm's End with just this few men?"

"Without news of Griffin's Roost, nothing can be certain," Oberyn said, "but if we want to change, it's just a gamble. Maybe we'll win."

Earl Anders shook his head. "The Dornishmen fighting abroad are like grains of sand in the sea. Change is a luxury." He stood up and expressed the sincerity of the Yronwood family. "I will give you 2,000 men. Remember to bring them home. Only when their blood is left in the sand can it be considered a destination."

Oberyn nodded, looking into Lord Anders' old and tired eyes, watching him turn around and leave.

He heaved a long sigh. Earl Anders did not interfere with his decision to divide his troops. Anders Yronwood did not raise any objection to the military plan agreed upon in Sunspear City. He just led his troops in silence and followed Oberyn's army back to his residence in Yronwood Castle.

The order to assemble the army had been issued long ago, but how to march had not yet been determined. Naturally, they would be able to quickly return to the Bone Road after the plan was finalized.

Oberyn was not only concerned with the movements of Storm's End and Griffin's Roost, he also wanted to expand his victory and quickly gain control of the situation outside the Prince's Pass on the Dornish border.

At this moment, the troops in the border areas are gathering in the hills northeast of the Red Mountains, which is the most empty time.

Without saying much, he returned to his bedroom bed, stared at the night sky outside the round window, and waited quietly to get up the next day.

All is not at peace in Storm's End.

No one from Green Valley City showed up for the daily morning meeting. Only a few officers from the Storm's End garrison looked at each other in bewilderment. They were extremely cautious when reporting military intelligence, as if they could sense the tense atmosphere spreading through the city.

"I want to ask you, sir," an officer who was obviously recommended asked, "this note" he pointed at the note shot by the enemy troops at the border, "how should we deal with it?"

Gilbert Farin remained calm: "How many people have seen this note? I mean, those who can read?" The officer was stunned. "The garrison officers guarding the city can read." He looked at Sir Romas Easmond beside him, as if asking for help. "I wonder if Lord Meidou's former subordinates in Green Valley City can read?"

Lomas Easmon waved his hand and said, "The news has spread. It doesn't matter whether you can read or not. Everyone in the garrison has seen Ewood Maydo outside the city."

Gilbert Farin clenched his fists. He glanced at Lomas Easmond and the officers of the Storm's End garrison. "Lord Meidou only brought fifty-two people, twenty of whom are his personal guards. Just explain this matter to them. Come with me to talk."

Lomas Eshmon stared into his eyes, suspicion almost written on his face.

Gilbert Farin knew it well. He picked up his sword, asked his servant to put a cloak on him, and walked out without even looking at Lomas Easmon.

Lomas Easmon tapped the table, thoughtfully. He slowly turned his head and watched Gilbert Farling's departing back.

The corridor of the meeting hall of Storm's End looked like a diamond from a distance. The light outside the corridor outlined the shape of Gilbert's figure, while the darkness inside the corridor was close to the wall. The corridor seemed very crowded in his field of vision, and Gilbert looked like a giant in it.

"You are the acting city lord appointed by the king. If you have any second thoughts..." Lomas snorted coldly, picked up the scabbard, and walked out towards Gilbert's elongated figure in the corridor.

Gilbert's way of dealing with the foreseeable mutiny was to assign officers from the garrison to separate the Green Valley City soldiers in the name of a drinking party, and to reason with them and appeal to their emotions during the drinking party.

The people of the Borderlands, who had followed Renly first and Stannis later, now bowed to Joffrey's incestuous son when they saw that the situation was not going well, were obviously a bunch of shameless people. Lord Earlwood Mather would surely suffer inhuman torture if he fell into their hands. Any words he said at this time were probably imposed by the traitor Bryce Carran.

After dispersing a wave of supplies, Gilbert won over the hearts of the people and calmed the morale of the troops in the city.

But this obviously did not convince Lomas Easmon, who was standing on the top of the city wall, looking at Gilbert Farin who was coming with a wine bag.

"You'd better tell me clearly when Ewood Meidou left the city and what letter of surrender he sent, Acting City Lord!" Lomas Ismon gripped his sword tightly, as if ready to draw it at any time.

Gilbert Farring lowered his brows and glanced at the sword in Eshmon's hand. "Do you want to kill me, Ser Eshmon?"

"That's up to you, Lord Farin." Lomas Ismond tightened his grip on the sword a little more.

Gilbert's expression remained calm. He placed the wine bag between the battlements, put his nose close to it and took a sniff, "Good wine! Good wine!" he muttered to himself.

Lomas Ismon frowned, moved his lips, and kept his eyes on Gilbert, confirming that he did not seem to be carrying any weapons.

"What's going on?" he asked.

Gilbert Falling placed his palm on the battlement, rubbing it against the stone chips to remove the sweat, and he answered, "Do you think we can hold Storm's End?"

Lomas was about to show off his power when Gilbert added, "On your own."

"What do you mean?" Lomas frowned and looked around: "Where are the allies?"

Gilbert Fallin continued, "Yes, they are at Griffin's Roost."

"Griffin's Nest? The red-haired knight, Roland Clinton? Isn't he in King's Landing? He only has a few soldiers?" Lomas asked repeatedly, he had lost his patience.

"No," Gilbert denied. "Griffin's Roost belongs to someone else now."

"Who?"

Gilbert Farring took a deep breath, stared at Romas Estermont, and said, "This is our only chance to survive and hold Storm's End until we can contact Queen Shireen. Otherwise, this place will be conquered by Joffrey sooner or later, or we will starve to death due to lack of food."

"You still want to betray." Lomas Eshmon drew his sword.

"No," Gilbert denied again, "I want to pretend to surrender."

"Surrender?!" Lomas pointed his sword at Gilbert's neck.

"Instead of kneeling before Joffrey," Gilbert said, his face unfazed as blood oozed from the tip of his sword, "he was pretending to surrender to Griffin's Roost."

"Who is it?"

"Aegon Targaryen, and the one we are very familiar with." Gilbert saw Romas's trembling cheeks and knew that he had been convinced, so he stretched out his hand to push away the sword. As expected, the latter did not stop him. "Jon Connington, he is back with an entire golden group."
