Chapter 973 Secret Base
Lin Gao looked at her worried eyes and his heart softened. He didn't want her to worry, so he pretended to be relaxed and said, "It's nothing serious, just some business cooperation."

Su Yu obviously didn't believe it, but she didn't ask any further questions. She just silently served him a bowl of rice.

The two of them ate quietly, and the atmosphere was a little dull. Lin Gao looked at Su Yu, feeling full of guilt. He didn't want to drag her into this dangerous vortex, but he couldn't face it all alone.

"Su Yu," Lin Gao put down his chopsticks and looked at her seriously, "I may have to leave for a while."

Su Yu was stunned, raised her head, her eyes full of confusion and worry: "Leave? Where to?"

"I don't know either," Lin Gao shook his head, "There are some things I have to do."

Su Yu's eyes were red. She held Lin Gao's hand tightly and said with a sob, "Don't go, okay? I don't want you to leave."

Lin Gao's heart felt like it was pricked by a needle. He held Su Yu in his arms, gently stroked her hair, and said softly, "I promise you, I will come back as soon as possible."

Su Yu hugged him tightly, her tears soaking his clothes.

The next morning, Lin Gao left the apartment, leaving only a note: "I'll be back soon, don't worry."

He came alone to a remote pier, where an old fishing boat was docked. A burly man with a full beard stood at the bow and waved at him.

Lin Gao walked over, and the man grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth: "Are you Lin Gao?"

"It's me." Lin Gao nodded.

"Come with me," the man turned and walked into the cabin, "The captain is waiting for you."

Lin Gao followed him into the cabin, and was greeted by a foul smell. He frowned, feeling vaguely uneasy.

The cabin was dark and damp. A short, ferocious-looking man was sitting on a tattered chair, holding a dagger that was shining coldly in his hand, and was peeling an apple one bite at a time.

Seeing Lin Gao coming in, the man raised his head, his cold eyes swept over him, and a cruel smile appeared at the corner of his mouth: "Welcome to hell."

Lin Gao's heart sank. He knew that he had embarked on a path of no return...

The air in the cabin was filthy, mixed with the smell of fish, sweat, and an inexplicable smell of corruption. Lin Gao calmly looked at the short and ferocious man in front of him. He called himself "Captain", but he looked more like a desperate pirate. The dagger in the captain's hand spun flexibly between his fingers, and the apple skin he peeled was as thin as a cicada's wing, circling and falling, like some kind of silent threat.

"Hell?" Lin Gao chuckled, with a hint of disdain in his tone, "I've seen worse places than this."

The captain stopped peeling the apple and pierced Lin Gao with a cold gaze, "Really? I hope you can still be so stubborn later." He threw the peeled apple to Lin Gao, "Eat it, this is your last delicious meal."

Lin Gao took the apple but didn't eat it. He just played with it casually. "What benefit did the Zhao family give you to make you work for them?"

The captain grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth. "It's enough for me to live a happy life. As for you..." He paused, a trace of cruelty flashed in his eyes. "Your life is worth a lot of money."

Lin Gao put the apple aside, put his hands in his pockets, and said calmly, "It seems that there is nothing more to talk about between us."

"Indeed," the captain shrugged, "Let's do it!"

Just as he finished speaking, two burly men jumped out from the corner of the cabin, holding steel pipes, and rushed towards Lin Gao viciously.

Lin Gao sneered, and dodged the two men's attacks easily. Then, he punched a big man in the abdomen with lightning speed. The other big man swung a steel pipe at Lin Gao's head, but Lin Gao grabbed his wrist and twisted it hard, causing the steel pipe to fall to the ground.

The two big men fell to the ground in pain, holding their stomachs and groaning. The captain's face changed. He didn't expect Lin Gao to be so skilled.

"It seems that you are more powerful than I thought." The captain said gloomily.

"You underestimated me." Lin Gao said coldly. The captain stood up from his chair, the dagger in his hand flashing coldly, "Then let me meet you in person!"

He pounced on Lin Gao like an agile cheetah, stabbing Lin Gao's vitals with his dagger. Lin Gao dodged sideways and kicked the captain in the chest, sending him flying.

The captain fell heavily to the ground, spitting out blood. He struggled to get up, his eyes full of hatred.

"You... how dare you..."

Lin Gao approached the captain step by step, "I gave you a chance, but you didn't cherish it."

A trace of fear flashed in the captain's eyes, and he began to regret taking the business.

"Wait!" he suddenly shouted, "I know some secrets about that man!"

Lin Gao stopped and said, "Tell me about it."

"I know where he is! I can take you there!" said the captain eagerly.

Lin Gao narrowed his eyes, "You'd better not play tricks."

"I dare not! I dare not!" The captain shook his head quickly.

Lin Gao followed the captain to the deck. The fishing boat had already started and was heading towards the vast ocean.

"He is on an isolated island," the captain pointed into the distance, "that is his secret base."

Lin Gao looked at the rough sea, his heart was calm. He knew that the real challenge had just begun.

The fishing boat sailed on the sea for two days and two nights and finally arrived at the isolated island that the captain had mentioned.

The island has dense vegetation and complex terrain, like a natural maze.

"Follow me," the captain led Lin Gao through the dense jungle, "his base is just ahead."

They came to a secluded valley. In the middle of the valley stood a modern building that was out of tune with the surrounding primitive environment.

"Here it is," the captain said, pointing at the building, "his men are inside."

Lin Gao looked at the heavily guarded base and sneered in his heart. He wanted to see who was the mastermind behind this.

"Just wait here," Lingao said to the captain, "I'll be back soon."

The captain nodded quickly. He didn't want to be involved in this dangerous fight again.

Lin Gao walked towards the base alone, and his figure gradually disappeared into the night.

The base was brightly lit and filled with shadows. Lin Gao quietly entered, moving through the corridors like a ghost.

He came to a monitoring room and observed the situation inside the base.

Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared in the surveillance screen.

Lin Gao's pupils suddenly shrank, and his heart was filled with turmoil.

That figure turned out to be... Su Yu!
In the surveillance video, Su Yu was talking to a burly man, whose back was facing the camera and whose face could not be seen clearly.
