Chapter 659 Karnassus
Chapter 659 Karnassus
In the sky above Chaos, streaks of light flashed low overhead.
After leaving the mortal army camp, Aglaia did not linger nearby.
She flew along, bathed in the warm sunlight. Faintly, she caught a glimpse of a golden carriage passing by in the distance.
Seemingly noticing her presence, Apollo, dressed in his finest attire, nodded in her direction.
"Greetings to you, Your Highness Apollo."
She spoke softly, responding with a big smile, which dispelled some of the worries in Aglaia's heart.
She then continued forward, flying back along the path she had come from.
Having traversed an unknown distance, until the ancient site of the Sacred Spring of Canas came into view, the goddess slowly slowed her pace.
The authority of the gods was invoked, and the next moment, as an inexplicable sense of fear surged from the surrounding environment, the prepared Aglaia nipped it in the bud.
She knew that this was a trace left by a trace of the mother tree's will, and also the location of the sacred spring that the goddess of youth had prepared for Hera.
Because the Queen's authority once clashed with the source of depravity here, this place has left an indelible mark.
This power cannot reach the gods, but it can easily make beings without divinity unconsciously perceive some forbidden images.
Thus, the former holy site was completely abandoned, and the ruins of the city were leveled by Hera.
Even though the evil things have been mostly wiped out, and the holy spring has undergone a strange transformation in this environment, it does not change the fact that this place is no longer habitable.
If it weren't for the search for Hebe's whereabouts, even the Queen herself probably wouldn't be willing to come near this place... Aglaia pursed her lips slightly, her gaze sweeping over the clear spring water.
Judging by its appearance alone, this spring truly deserves to be called a divine spring.
It is no longer a product of the power of the goddess of youth; it possesses extraordinary power of its own.
But through the clear, holy water, Aglaia seemed to see billions of corpses settled beneath it.
Some of them are shouting with their heads raised, some are praying devoutly, and many more are sleeping peacefully.
In the very center, a headless corpse floats among the remains, like the king of all the corpses.
"Don't worry about it, these are just shadows."
“I searched the nearby wilderness for some wild animals and let them drink from this spring.”
"And that's the final result: the evil creatures have been killed, they have received ample nourishment from life, but there is no sign of them transforming into evil creatures."
The voice came from behind Aglaia. Hera was dressed in plain clothes, without any decorations.
Looking at the distant sacred spring, she could also see its reflection in the water.
However, compared to the former's nervousness, the diva had her own perspective on this.
"You should know that everything in the world is in a cycle."
"From birth to death, all the matter and energy a life takes from the world while it is alive will be returned to all things at the moment of its death."
"Just as a corpse can be transformed into nutrients to nourish plants and the soil, a soul returns to the spirit world or the divine realm, releasing its final value... but evil things are different."
"Zeus once said that their very existence is the source of their power, polluting the material world. Therefore, to eliminate evil, we must completely erase everything they have left behind."
"Therefore, the gods chose to use their divine power to wear down stone with dripping water... but the power of death is dealt with in a completely different way."
"It specifically eliminates the immortality and pollution of evil things and transforms them back into a special kind of 'nourishment' that can be absorbed by all things and become their own 'earth power'."
"The Sacred Spring of Canasos...perhaps that is why it was reborn."
The last sentence carried a hint of uncertainty, because Hera felt that it might also have some connection to her.
Of course, the exact reason is not important.
Even if Hera believed there was nothing wrong with the sacred spring, she would no longer bathe in it.
After all, putting aside those creepy illusions, this spring water is essentially a pool of corpses... As the Empress of the Divine Court, she wouldn't force herself for a special hot spring.
But then again, those human wizards who caused all this... perhaps Zeus thought the same thing when he angrily decided to destroy the Bronze Men...
"...Your Majesty...Your Majesty..."
"...What's wrong with you?"
"Ok?"
Coming to her senses, Hera looked calmly at Aglaia beside her.
"It's nothing. I just received a prayer from a special believer. She failed at something I commanded her to do—why did I look so bad before?"
"Hmm... You were just like His Majesty the God-King's lightning, sharp and majestic."
With a slight bow, Aglaia offered a subtle compliment.
"..."
Hera gave a suitable smile, not taking the other person's words to heart. She knew that her expression just now was probably not very pleasant.
From the theft of the Golden Apple Garden to the sabotage of Hebe, and even the attack on Olympus... each and every one of these events fueled the Queen's growing rage.
Despite her anger, Hera never expected that she would have such a thought.
They are just some blasphemous sorcerers; they are not priests from the Bronze Age, so how can they represent all of humanity?
I was so angry that I lost my mind. Otherwise, no matter how great the diva is, she shouldn't have had such thoughts.
"Alright... tell me what you found."
"According to the message you sent me, you found Hebe's whereabouts?"
"Yes, Your Majesty, this is all thanks to the assistance of the wind gods."
Without dwelling on what Hera was thinking, Aglaia tactfully changed the subject and returned to Hebe.
However, the goddess did not take credit for herself, but truthfully recounted the contributions of the wind gods.
"After hearing your order, the wind gods spent a lot of effort... and finally, they located the whereabouts of the goddess of youth."
"If nothing unexpected happens, Princess Hebe should be near the ruins of Mount Odyss... but perhaps due to the backlash from using divine power in the mortal realm, her condition seems to be poor. Not only has she lost her divine power, but she can no longer even maintain her demigod domain."
"Moreover, there seems to be no trace of a human wizard beside Her Highness. She doesn't seem to be imprisoned there, but rather enjoys considerable freedom..."
"Mount Odils?"
Speaking in a low voice, Hera was slightly taken aback upon hearing this familiar yet unfamiliar name.
It happened there, and it wasn't forced upon you?
But the next moment, as the information in her mind converged, Hera's previously normal expression turned gloomy again.
Without realizing it, her hands clenched silently, as if she wanted to grab someone's shoulder.
Mount Odile... that's ancient history.
Hera didn't have much of an impression of that place, and she never intended to go near it.
Not only her, but all of her siblings were.
After all, aside from Zeus, their strongest memories of that place were of imprisonment in darkness.
No one dwells on painful memories, and Hera was no exception... But unfortunately, she remembered very clearly that not long ago, Zeus's avatar who was stranded outside seemed to have done something there.
It should be noted that, normally, the Queen Mother is unaware of what the God-King is doing.
This time, perhaps because his true form was sealed inside Asgard, Zeus's methods were less concealed, which is why Hera remembered them so vividly.
Knowing this was one thing, but considering Zeus's sealed true form, Hera didn't think he was doing anything shameful, so she didn't pay any attention to it.
But now it seems that's not the case.
If Hebe was there too...did Zeus know about this?
Saying I don't know seems a bit far-fetched.
If he knew, then why didn't he tell me the truth?
"..."
"I understand. I've remembered the Wind God's contribution, and so have you... I'll handle the rest myself."
"However, please try not to spread this information around."
Hera gently waved her hand and took a deep breath.
The destructive urge that had been easily suppressed rose again, only to be forcibly suppressed once more.
Lately, Hera has indeed found that her emotions have become more volatile, but it is clearly not enough to affect her judgment.
As a true god with immense divine power, the Empress was confident in this.
"There's nothing for you to do here for now... Aglaia, go find your sisters."
"Ignore Zeus's orders. This war has not yet reached the point where the Graces need to intervene."
"The Olympian pantheon does not need to test the loyalty of every god in this way."
He slowly waved his hand, and his figure soared into the sky.
Without saying anything more to Aglaiado, Hera determined her direction and flew straight westward.
Regardless, now that she had received the news, she had to bring Heber back first.
After all, it's too dangerous for a true god who has suffered the backlash of the laws to be in the mortal realm. No one can guarantee that she won't be targeted again... Moreover, Hera had a vague feeling that things weren't going well.
She didn't know if Zeus knew Hebe's whereabouts. If he did... then for the goddess of youth, the dangers of the human world were probably far more than just some so-called wizards.
