Chapter 8 The Princess

There were many people buying storybooks. At first, they were girls from brothels brought by Miss Peony, and later they were ladies from wealthy families. There was a limited number of storybooks, and only thirty copies were sold every day, so there was a long queue in front of the stall.

Chu Li touched her nose: "Look, if I write, the book will sell well."

The corner of Jinchu's mouth twitched. She had read the storybook and there were illustrations, but she was too illiterate to understand it.

Chu Li wrote storybooks every day, and the two of them lived better and better. However, Jinchu felt that the purple luck on his father's head should be more than that.

"Dad, do you plan to keep selling your storybook?"

"Of course not," Chu Li looked towards the direction of the palace, then turned her head after a while: "Wait until the mountain flowers are in full bloom."

"Oh?"

Jinchu didn't understand much, but Chu Li was unhurried. She went out to sell storybooks during the day and wrote storybooks at home at night.

Soon, Jinchu could eat chicken legs every now and then, and the family's savings increased from a few taels to dozens of taels.

In recent days, Chu Li had been in a low mood. She didn't talk to Jin Chu very much all day long. Sometimes she sat in the yard and stared blankly at the rabbits raised by Jin Chu.

It's not that Jinchu couldn't bear to part with them, it's just that these two rabbits were cute and ice-snowy, very similar to Chang'e's sister's jade rabbits. As time went by, he fell in love with her again.

"Dad, if you want to eat the rabbit, let's kill Dabai Erbai." Chu Li shook her head and smiled bitterly, covering her head with her hands. She started to have a headache again.

When she woke up that day, Chu Li was listless and still had no intention of going out. This was the sixth day she had stayed behind closed doors, and people outside buying storybooks were making a fuss.

"Dad, let's go out today." Jinchu was really worried that his father was depressed.

Chu Li frowned and said nothing.

Jinchu raised his face seriously: "Jinchu doesn't know what's wrong with daddy, but my daughter has a strange premonition, daddy, you go set up a stall today."

Chu Li retracted her empty gaze and smiled: "It's time to face it."

The bustling streets were swept clean, and everyone put on new clothes worn only for the festival. It turned out that Princess Yun was passing through here today.

"The eldest princess is the most beautiful woman in our Yun Kingdom!"

"I went out early in the morning. I just wanted to see the eldest princess's face."

"The toad wants to eat the swan meat! Isn't the princess someone we ordinary people can peep at?"

"This is disrespectful and will be beheaded..."

Everyone's discussion aroused Jinchu's curiosity. Fairy Chang'e is common. Is the princess more beautiful than her?Besides, Daddy washed off the concoction on his face and looked like a real beauty.

Jinchu and Chu Li stood in the crowd and waited for almost an hour before the rumored eldest princess appeared.

Fragrant cars and BMWs, bright armor, luxurious and mighty battle formations.

In the Yun Kingdom, both princesses and princes are ranked based on their talents. The reputation of the eldest princess in the court even surpasses that of the princes and grandchildren. Rumor has it that the emperor intends to pass the throne to her.

Suddenly there was a burst of flying sand and rocks, and the carriage passed by Jinchu. The curtains were blown by the wind, and Jinchu saw the people in the carriage.

The girl has plain teeth and red lips, a palm-sized hibiscus face as bright as the moon, and mist-like hair at the temples. She is dressed in a goose-yellow palace outfit that complements her icy muscles and jade bones.

"Wow, so beautiful!"

Jinchu had to admit that the eldest princess was no worse than those fairy sisters. He tugged on Chu Li's sleeves and motioned for her to look at the beauty.

Chu Li's eyes were fixed on the people in the carriage and she clenched her fists.

The wind came and went quickly. The carriage just stopped for a moment and then started to move forward slowly. Chu Li suddenly jumped into the crowd.

"Dad..." Jin Chu quickly followed, but was pushed away by the crowd.

"This is the eldest princess chariot, seeking death!" The guard stopped Chu Li, kicked her down, and put two sharp knives on Chu Li's neck.

The carriage and horses were getting further and further away, and the guards followed. Only then did Chu Li get up and look at the leaving carriage.People around her pointed at her, and it took a while for Chu Li to calm down. When she saw Jin Chu with a worried face, she said softly: "Go home."

After that day, Chu Li never wrote another storybook.

Ten days later, Chu Li went out and brought back exquisite snacks, fragrant roast chicken, and bought a lot of rice noodles.

After dinner, Chu Li handed all the money to Jin Chu, "My child, I want to go to the palace."

"Into the palace?" Jin Chu's eyes widened in surprise, "Dad, what are you doing in the palace?"

"Daddy is going to get what belongs to me."

"What is it?" Jinchu stared at the purple luck on his father's head, and Chu Li touched Jinchu's soft hair.

Jinchu didn't sleep well at night, and didn't fall asleep until the rooster crowed. When the sun shined through the window, Jinchu sat up and saw a letter on the pillow and a cooked breakfast.

The letter said that Chu Li had paid another half year's rent. If she didn't come back in three days - Jinchu was so smart, he would definitely be able to live well.

The courtyard door opened and closed again.

The chickens and ducks were clamoring for food, and the rabbit twitched its long ears at Jinchu. Jinchu was the only one left at home.

"Queen Mother, please wish that my father's wishes will come true and that he will return safely in three days!"

Jinchu didn't believe that her father, who was usually so good to her, would abandon her like her adoptive father and mother. She firmly believed that her father would come back!

Three days later in the morning, Jinchu changed into clean clothes, cooked a pot of porridge, fed chickens, ducks and rabbits, and finished watering the vegetables.

From sunrise to sunset, from dusk to dawn, dad still didn't come back.

Two vegetable sellers passed by the door quickly, discussing in a low voice the excitement of today:
"Have you heard? The one who wrote the storybook shed so much blood that we didn't even sell any food."

"Does he really think that his low life can threaten the eldest princess?"

"I just didn't expect him to dare to hit the pillar. Tsk, how painful it is..."

Jinchu stood in the courtyard separated by a wall until his limbs became stiff.

She knew that her father would never come back, and the black air on her head was obviously gone!

The next day, the news that Chu Li died after hitting a pillar reached the ears of the landlady. Along with the news, there was also a nun from the palace.

She looked at the trembling landlady, looked at Jinchu with disdain, and said, "Follow me."

Jinchu didn't ask anything and followed her silently.

After walking a few steps, grandma looked back at her, her eyes full of indifference: "Chu really loves you in vain. He is dead, and you didn't even ask a question."

Jinchu raised his head numbly and opened his mouth, but couldn't speak.

Grandma was surprised, then chuckled: "You are pretending to be mute now, I hope you can pretend for the rest of your life!"

Jinchu was brought into the palace, and her mother-in-law led her to the stables. There was a lonely cabin there, which was a residence for low-class horse slaves.

The stables stink, but other than that, the food and clothing are pretty good.

There are several stables in the palace, and the one managed by Jinchu is the worst. The horses here are old, weak, sick, and disabled, or have bad tempers and have hurt their owners.

There were few people on weekdays, so Jinchu kept company with a maroon pony with one ear missing every day.

Of course, people still come occasionally.

The eldest princess's fair and tender face looked bright and moving against the backdrop of the peach riding attire.
