This type of drone with attack capabilities was proposed by Li Yian many years ago, and then handed over to the Air Force Technical Research Center, which was gradually realized by them, from the initial "Scout" to the current "Death". During this period, even the "Scout" has undergone many upgrades, especially its video signal transmission. Its early models used vacuum camera tube electronic signal transmission, but the resolution was lower than the military's requirements for reconnaissance aircraft. Now, the CCD charge-coupled lens digital camera, although this digital camera uses white light digital imaging, can convert light into electrical signals through the photoelectric effect to produce digital images, thereby increasing its resolution exponentially. Even though CCD digital imaging cannot be used at night, it can provide much higher accuracy and a much longer locking distance than the old camera system in daytime conditions.

It is by using CCD digital imaging and then transmitting the images back via data link that SEA has finally achieved real-time reconnaissance. Initially, this technology was limited by cost and was only used in reconnaissance satellites, but now it has been used in unmanned reconnaissance aircraft such as the Scout.

After the Reaper drone landed, Liang Zhijie walked to the side of the "Reaper", looked at the white fuselage, and said:

"The most critical thing is the data link. If we only rely on the existing data link transmission system, it can only be used for tactical reconnaissance and strikes. Its endurance time is as high as 40 hours, but the flight control distance is only 200 kilometers. This is simply a waste!"

“Only when the problem of data link transmission is solved can it be possible to give full play to its role.”

The data link he mentioned refers to the SEA's tactical data link, which originated in the 1950s. The first generation of data link was originally designed to replace voice communications for controlling fighter jets. During the military operations in Siam, some problems were exposed.

Therefore, the military started to develop the second-generation data link, which has been in service since eight years ago. This data link was initially mainly equipped on naval ships and can transmit and exchange digital information between ships, ship-to-air, ship-to-ground, and air-to-ground, with a transmission rate of 1.2K-2.5K.

Three years ago, the military combined the characteristics of two generations of data links and developed a new generation of data links to achieve a common transmission interface specification for information exchange between different services. Its technical level is roughly similar to the Link-16 data link adopted by the US military in the 11s. Although it has some shortcomings in some parts, it is far superior to the Link- data link independently developed by the US military. It has the characteristics of anti-interference, large capacity, high transmission rate, low interception rate and strong confidentiality. It is not only adopted by the SEA military, but also by the US military and NATO countries, becoming the most commonly used tactical data link between Western allies.

However, due to the curvature of the earth, the third-generation data link radio waves with a transmission rate of 28K are limited by line of sight, and it is still very difficult to achieve full transparency on the battlefield.

It is also an indisputable fact that the command and control of the Reaper UAV is based on the third-generation data link. It is limited by the inherent factors of the data link and is unable to fully realize its potential.

However, without the third-generation data link, there would be no ground attack by the Reaper drone. After all, data transmission is a difficult problem that must be solved when using drone attacks.

"Oh, there's nothing we can do about it. We can't just set up a satellite relay transmission just for it!"
