The diva and I cross each other

Chapter 428 Algorithm Breakthrough

Chapter 428 Algorithm Breakthrough
On March 2015, 3, the twelfth day of the first lunar month and also a new week, Luo Ming and Lin Shuwen came to Chen Bin’s company together.

Luo Ming's secretary Li Yan and Lin Shuwen's assistant Chen Sichu also followed.

Chen Bin had been waiting at the door early. When he saw Luo Ming coming, he immediately greeted him: "Boss Luo, welcome to our company for guidance."

"Mr. Chen is too polite. We are all family, so there is no need to ask for guidance."

It is not an exaggeration to say that Luo Ming is a family. Previously, Zhuoguang Technology invested 1000 million yuan in Chen Bin’s company and acquired 40% of the company’s shares.

"Mr. Chen, did Zhang Shirui, whom I introduced to you before, pass the interview of your company?" Lin Shuwen asked on the side.

"She passed. Ms. Zhang has solid professional knowledge, but she lacks practice. According to the standards of fresh graduates, Ms. Zhang is definitely an outstanding talent."

Lin Shuwen heard the hidden meaning in Chen Bin's words. If Zhang Shirui was a recent graduate, many companies would have hired her, but she was not, and she had a criminal record. Chen Bin was doing Lin Shuwen a favor by keeping her.

Lin Shuwen smiled and thanked Chen Bin.

Chen Bin waved his hands repeatedly. He was doing a favor not just to get a thank you.

Then everyone went to a meeting room together.

Luo Ming and Lin Shuwen came here this time to see what breakthroughs Chen Bin had made in the posture balance algorithm. Chen Bin knew this, so he led them directly to the conference room.

After everyone sat down, Chen Bin clicked on a video projected on the screen, and then said: "Boss Luo, Boss Lin, please watch this video."

Luo Ming turned his head and looked at the screen. The video showed a white-haired grandmother who was eating noodles with a spoon with great effort.

It took the old lady a lot of effort to eat each noodle, because her hands were shaking violently all the time. Every time she took the noodles from the spoon, they would fall back into the bowl. It took her a long time to eat just one noodle.

When Luo Ming saw the old man in the video, a term emerged in his mind – Parkinson’s syndrome.

In his previous life, Professor Li, a university professor at Luo Ming, suffered from this disease.

Parkinson's disease is a common degenerative disease of the nervous system in the elderly. It is related to factors such as genetics, environment, and aging of the nervous system. There is only one way to cure this disease, and that is to prevent people from aging.

In other words, Parkinson's disease cannot be cured and can only be controlled through medication or surgery.

By the time Luo Ming crossed over, there were already tens of millions of Parkinson's patients worldwide, with my country alone accounting for nearly one-third of the total, or more than 330 million people.

Among them, 70% of severe patients, that is, nearly 700 million people worldwide, cannot even eat independently due to Parkinson's disease and need help from others to eat normally.

And the number of people who cannot feed themselves due to hand tremors is far more than 700 million.

In addition to Parkinson's disease, other causes of hand tremors include epilepsy and essential tremor.

Luo Ming felt a little uncomfortable seeing the old man struggling to eat noodles. He turned to Chen Bin and asked, "Mr. Chen, why did you let us watch this video?"

Chen Bin smiled and said, "Of course it's for comparison."

After saying that, Chen Bin fast-forwarded a few times. Another bowl of noodles was placed in front of the old woman in the video. This time, the spoon in her hand had obviously changed. Not only was it bigger, but there were also chips, circuit boards and other things on it.

The old man held the spoon and continued to eat noodles.

This time the old man's hands were still shaking, but the noodles on the spoon did not fall off and were eaten by the old man.

Luo Ming's eyes lit up. It seemed that this was the breakthrough that Chen Bin had mentioned.

"I'm sure Mr. Luo should have figured it out. Yes, this is one of our small technological breakthroughs. To put it simply, it's anti-shake." Chen Bin said proudly.

"Mr. Chen is too modest. Anti-shake is not just a small technical breakthrough, it can be considered a major breakthrough!" Luo Ming praised.

Luo Ming's compliment was not just a compliment, but he really thought Chen Bin was amazing.

Similar technology appeared in 2019, and the first application direction of this technology was not a spoon, but to add anti-shake algorithm to the mobile phone, so that the mobile phone will be more stable whether taking pictures or using other functions.

It is said that the inventor of this technical patent made a fortune from this patent.

Unexpectedly, in this life, his unintentional investment actually led to the early launch of the anti-shake algorithm.

"Mr. Chen, how do you plan to use this algorithm?" Luo Ming asked with a smile.

"I think it is a huge business opportunity to produce some anti-shake products, such as the anti-shake spoon in the video.

The anti-shake spoon is not only for the elderly with Parkinson's disease, but also can be used by children and people who have hand tremors due to other diseases.

If the business is well managed, the annual revenue will be at least one or two million yuan," Chen Bin said excitedly.

Luo Ming's mouth twitched when he heard this. Using the anti-shake algorithm as a spoon is really like throwing away the watermelon to pick up sesame seeds. Luo Ming now understands why the video demonstration of the anti-shake algorithm is a spoon. It turns out that this is the business direction that Chen Bin figured out himself.

"Mr. Chen, is it possible that your anti-shake algorithm can be applied in a wider range of fields?"

"A wider field? What field?" Chen Bin asked in confusion.

"Two directions: one is mobile phones, and the other is autonomous driving."

Chen Bin is a professional, he just couldn't think straight away. After Luo Ming said this, Chen Bin felt as if he had suddenly become enlightened.

"Boss Luo, you are a genius! Let's not talk about mobile phones for now. When I was at SpaceX, I heard that the boss had founded a new company called Tesla, which is currently working on driverless technology. When I left, I heard that L2 autonomous driving technology was already very mature. If my anti-shake algorithm is added to make the car body more stable, it may be able to break through to L3."

Luo Ming curled his lips and said, "Mr. Chen, you are a little fanciful. It is not so easy to break through the L3 autonomous driving technology."

The L3 that Luo Ming mentioned is the level of autonomous driving technology, which is defined by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).

The levels of autonomous driving from 0 to 5 are L0 non-automation, L1 assisted driving, L2 semi-automation, L3 conditional automation, L4 high automation, and finally L5 full automation.

To put it simply, L0 non-automation means manual driving, and the driver has full control over the vehicle.

In L1 assisted driving, the driver is still the primary controller and the system will only intervene in specific situations.

For example, the anti-lock braking system and dynamic stability system in today's cars belong to this level of functions, and usually intervene when the driver drives carelessly.

L2 semi-automation means that the driving system can complete certain tasks, but the driver still needs to monitor the environment in real time.

The functions that can currently be realized 100% include automatic emergency braking and lane departure assist, which is also known as automatic parking.

L3 conditional automated driving, before Luo Ming crossed over, there was a certain move, and Tesla has touched the threshold of this technology.

Tesla's boss Musk said in 2014 that Tesla would achieve this technology by 2020, but it turned out that they failed.

The fact that Tesla had countless car accidents in 2020 is the best proof.

Why is L3 conditional autonomous driving so difficult?

In fact, this is because it is necessary to ensure that in certain specific situations, the driving system can fully control driving and temporarily liberate the driver.

But the system will always make mistakes. From a technical perspective, several companies on the market have solved more than 3% of the technical problems in L98 autonomous driving. As for the remaining 2%, these companies have spent several years to solve it. This 2% is the reason for the frequent occurrence of autonomous driving accidents.

The system can make mistakes countless times, but a person only has one life.

Luo Ming estimates that to achieve this 2% breakthrough, it would conservatively take until around 2030.

Luo Ming is still relatively optimistic, and some scientists and technicians generally believe that this breakthrough will not be achieved until at least after 2035.

The natural next step after L3 is L4. The high degree of automation of L4 means that autonomous driving no longer requires users to keep an eye on it all the time.

The system can completely take over the user's job. The user can do anything. He does not need to stare at the road or pay attention to pedestrians or vehicles. The system can solve all these problems. The user can even take a nap while driving.

However, the L4 level system still has certain defects, that is, it has certain requirements for weather, especially heavy rain and heavy fog, which will have a great impact on the system.

L4, which is above L5, is fully automated and the ultimate form of autonomous driving. The system can safely control the car under any circumstances. A driver is no longer required and there is no need to worry about any weather conditions.

Theoretically, L3 technology can be achieved after 4G becomes popular, but this 2% has blocked countless companies.

The same is true for L4. As long as 4G network becomes popular, theoretically there will be no time difference in information transmission.

But L3 has not been solved, let alone L4.

The emergence of anti-shake algorithms in the past has indeed increased the stability of vehicles, but even so, no company dares to say that they have completed L3 autonomous driving.

Except Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz claims to have an L3 mobile driving system, but what they call an L3 autonomous driving system means that on certain highways, below 40 mph, an S-Class or EQS equipped with an L3 autonomous driving system will help the driver control the car's speed, steering, braking, etc.

At this level, it would be a joke to say that you have an L3 autonomous driving system.

Not to mention Wei and Tesla, even DAV’s autonomous driving beats them.

"In short, Mr. Chen, let's not talk about the anti-shake algorithm for cars for now. You can license the anti-shake algorithm to major mobile phone manufacturers. I believe the licensing fee alone will be enough for your future research."

Chen Bin nodded repeatedly, but soon Chen Bin said awkwardly: "Boss Luo, I don't know any mobile phone manufacturers! Do you have any connections to introduce them?"
