Chapter 1223 Connecting Memories
Chapter 1223 Connecting Memories
"Sir, is this your first time visiting Dawn Tower?"
The staff member who had been explaining things came up to Mo Ling and asked with a smile.
Faced with this sudden question, Mo Ling hesitated for a moment, but after thinking for a while, she nodded. There was nothing to hide.
"How did you tell?"
"Weren't you following us the whole time? And listening attentively to my explanation, weren't you?"
Mo Ling felt a little embarrassed when the staff pointed out his "stalking" behavior.
"You don't have to do that. If you want to follow along, you can do so openly. Our guided tours are open to all, which is why we've set up a special exhibition hall so that all visitors to Dawn Tower can feel the warmth of Dawn Tower."
"Next, I plan to take the children to the History Institute, where there is an exhibition hall about the history of the Abyss. Would you like to come along?"
“Okay.” Mo Ling nodded. This was a good opportunity for him to learn about this abyss that existed in his memory, yet he couldn’t recall it…
And so, Mo Ling joined the ranks of Dawn City's No. 1 Kindergarten.
The middle-aged kindergarten teacher smiled at him; they were acquaintances.
The history research institute is on a higher level, with part of it used as a research institute and part of it open to the public. As you step out of the suspended platform, a huge "jungle" instantly surrounds you. Behind the dense bushes, there are several strange creatures, as if they are about to leap out of the bushes at any moment.
Upon witnessing this amazing scene, the children exclaimed in surprise.
"These are all simulated projections from the Abyss History Exhibition Hall, so don't be afraid," the staff member said, turning around to the children behind him.
"This is the first layer of the Abyss, also the layer with the richest biodiversity. Humans established many monitoring stations on the first layer, and explored outwards from these stations. Until a few years before the Abyss closed, the first layer was still not fully explored, and the area of this jungle remains unknown to this day..."
As the staff walked forward, they explained in a loud voice. Various environmental sounds echoed in the simulated jungle, and the exotic animals began to "move," displaying their unique abilities. Strange changes also began to occur in certain areas.
These simulated scenes and creatures tried their best to show the danger and wonder of the first layer of the abyss, and the children stared wide-eyed, experiencing this unprecedented experience.
Although everything was simulated and they wouldn't actually encounter any danger, the immersive feeling still made their hearts race. Some timid children hid behind the teachers, while a few squeezed next to the staff.
While taking care of the children, the staff continued to explain the history, ecology, regional divisions, and role of the monitoring station of the first level of the abyss. The explanations blended seamlessly with the surrounding environment, making walking in this "jungle" feel like experiencing an adventure of the first level of the abyss firsthand.
The staff led the team up a mountain, and then the whole scene was "upside down," and they fell into a desert with yellow sand everywhere.
"Next, we'll see the second level of the abyss, the disordered sand dunes..."
The scene was changing, and Mo Ling's heart was trembling. He walked at the back of the group, listening to the explanations coming from the front, as if he had fallen alone into a closed abyss.
He was very familiar with these places.
Jungles, deserts, oceans, sky islands, darkness, and the ever-changing parallel universes—he could find echoes of all of them in his memories. The fragments of those echoes gradually connected, stitching together the broken pieces into a complete narrative. The stuck gears in his mind finally started turning again.
“I did reach those places, the sixth level of the Abyss… Did I really make it all the way to the sixth level of the Abyss? I’m quite remarkable.”
The simulated perilous scenes in the abyss filled Moring with deep fear. He couldn't imagine how he had survived those places. In the abyss, humans were like insignificant specks of dust, easily destroyed by anything that could obliterate their mortal bodies.
The jungle conceals our breath.
The sandstorm stopped my heartbeat.
The sea devours flesh. Clouds and mist obscure perception.
Darkness erodes the soul.
The universe has lost its will.
The abyss is like a dark millstone, grinding all humans who enter it into nothingness.
But Mo Ling returned alive. Although his body underwent some changes, compared to the souls that were ground to dust by the millstone, his price was negligible.
To be alive is already a rare privilege...
However, as he looked at these bizarre and fantastical scenes, Mo Ling's memories became somewhat disordered. It seemed that there were two completely different experiences in the abyss that were intertwined in his memory but could never overlap. If he forcibly merged these two experiences together, there would be a discrepancy in the timeline, so they had to be separated into two parts.
Mo Ling's subconscious was also reminding him that these were two separate experiences in the abyss, not one together.
"Did I fall into the abyss twice?"
When Mo Ling had this thought, his reason frantically denied it.
Is that even possible? The abyss is so dangerous, one trip is enough to destroy a person's body and soul, yet they went twice and returned safely?
Reason kept telling Mo Ling that this was impossible.
But his memory was also battling with his reason; those two experiences truly existed in his memory, neither of them was false.
"If I really did fall into the abyss twice..."
Why did I go down twice?
Mo Ling thought about it for a long time, but still couldn't figure out the purpose of doing so.
Could it be that he didn't reach the bottom of the abyss the first time, so he started again and reached the bottom of the abyss on the second time?
What does the bottom of the abyss look like? Mo Ling's memories didn't give him the answer; he could only hope that the staff could explain it in detail.
However, after traversing those intersecting parallel universes, the surrounding scenery went completely dark, as if this journey into the abyss had come to an end.
"That's all?" Mo Ling was stunned.
The staff member turned around at the opportune moment and asked the children behind him, "Would you like to continue your adventure?"
"miss you!"
"I'm sorry, children, the journey has to end here. Humanity's understanding of the Abyss is limited to this. The rest of the journey is up to you to explore. Perhaps when you grow up, you will become scientists who study the Abyss and find the next stop on your journey through your own efforts."
The staff member recounted the story calmly, a hint of regret flashing in his eyes, clearly also somewhat unwilling to accept the sudden end of the trip.
The children all looked disappointed, and the few cowards following behind the teacher quickly tugged at her clothes and asked, "Teacher, what else is at the bottom of the abyss?"
The teacher could only shake his head helplessly.
