Chapter 1168 Castio
“Casdeo, you said you were here to help,” Dean said deliberately to Casdeo before they set out, while secretly winking at Sam. “Do you have a way to deal with that guy inside?”
“We may need to question them while they are alive.”
Sam understood and secretly adjusted the intensity of the demonic power he was about to unleash, weakening it so that it could only exert a non-lethal restraint on the demon inside.
They planned to use this opportunity to force Castio to reveal his true colors.
Upon hearing this, Castio simply nodded calmly and strode toward the tightly closed iron door to the basement. He didn't even make any aggressive gesture; he simply reached out and placed his hand on the rusty door panel.
The next moment, a sudden change occurred.
There were no incantations, no runes, and not even any obvious energy fluctuations, but the moment Castio's palm touched the iron door, the entire basement seemed to be bombarded with an invisible holy light!
"Roar--!"
From inside came the demon's agonizing and terrified roar, interspersed with incredulous screams: "No, just... just you! How is this possible?! Heaven wasn't always..."
The roar stopped abruptly.
Through the suddenly opened iron gate, Dean and Sam could clearly see that the hideous demon vanished as if erased by a complex and majestic rune made of pure light, leaving only the unfinished sacrificial circle on the floor and a faint smell of sulfur in the air.
At the very moment when the light was at its brightest, the two seemed to see the outline of a pair of enormous wings, composed of pure light and shadow, radiating endless majesty and holiness, vaguely unfolding behind Castio.
The scene flashed by, but it was deeply imprinted in their minds.
"What exactly are you?" Sam's voice carried a hint of barely perceptible wariness.
Castio withdrew his hand, turned around, his expression still calm, even carrying a hint of indifference as if he had completed his mission: "I am Castio, an angel, a warrior of God."
Angel!
This answer sent a jolt through Dean and Sam. Their recent experiences with Wu Heng at the cliff and the glass factory, and the indifference they had witnessed from heaven, had made them distrustful of these angels.
The two exchanged a glance.
They both understood each other's meaning. Could it be that Wu Heng's actions of bringing down Paradise and allowing it to enter the market had taken effect?
"You say you can save our father?" Dean repeated the question, his eyes sharp as an eagle's.
“Yes, that is one of the reasons I came here,” Castio confirmed.
The word 'hope' is like a fragile spider web; even knowing it may lead to an unknown trap, one cannot easily let go.
Upon hearing this, the two brothers fell into a silent struggle, ultimately their worry for their father's life outweighing their anxiety and vigilance towards the unknown.
“Come back to the apartment with us.” Dean took a deep breath and made his decision. “But don’t try anything funny until we’re sure you can really help.”
The atmosphere was heavy on the way back to the apartment.
Castio followed quietly behind, maintaining his detached yet curious observation of everything along the way.
In reality, Castio's arrival in the real world and his direct intervention in the Winchester brothers' affairs were driven by deeper considerations within Heaven. The previous battle at the glass factory, the conflict between Wu Heng and Lilith and her legion, especially the terrifying final blow that connected to the Abyss, had already alerted Heaven's higher-ups with its abnormal energy fluctuations.
This extraordinary power, which touches upon the fundamental rules of the world, made it impossible for Heaven to remain indifferent.
Such a significant impact must not be caused before the Apocalypse is officially initiated.
Meanwhile, Dean and Sam, as key figures, are already on Heaven's 'watch list'.
Sending Castio was both to provide the two brothers with the necessary 'help' and to strengthen their values; at the same time, it also carried the task of closely monitoring and assessing Wu Heng, a huge variable and potential threat.
After calculations, the higher-ups at Paradise believed that with the Winchester brothers acting as a buffer, the possibility of Wu Heng directly clashing with Castio was relatively low.
Back in his slightly messy apartment, Wu Heng was fully awake and sitting on the sofa, toying with the container that held the essence of three hundred demons. His eyes were deep, and he seemed to be deep in thought.
The puppet spirit in the shadows was completely silent, but the shadows seemed to ripple almost imperceptibly the moment Castio stepped into the room.
“Lor,” Dean spoke first, his tone tinged with barely perceptible tension, “This is Castio. He says he is an angel who can awaken our father.”
Sam added, his gaze shifting between Wu Heng and Castio: "We're not sure if we should trust him, and we'd like to hear your opinion."
In an instant, the air in the apartment seemed to freeze.
Wu Heng slowly raised his head, his gaze fixed on Castio standing at the door, as if it were a tangible object.
His gaze was calm and unwavering, devoid of surprise, hostility, or welcome; it held only a pure and utter scrutiny, as if he were observing an interesting specimen.
Almost at the same time, Castio's gaze, which had been somewhat scattered and focused on observing the human environment, instantly sharpened and met Wu Heng's gaze.
The angel's brows furrowed almost immediately, and a distinct look of disgust and wariness flashed in his inhuman eyes.
In Castio's perception, Wu Heng in front of him was simply a walking 'pollution source'.
Although Wu Heng had been purified, he still retained an intense, inescapable aura of hell, the karmic burden he had accumulated from slaughtering countless demons.
Deeper still, there lingered a cold, chaotic, and insane abyssal aftertaste that made even this warrior of heaven feel extremely uncomfortable.
In addition to Wu Heng's own profound and sinister power, all these auras intertwined to form a complex that, in the eyes of angels, was extremely evil and blasphemous.
This is completely opposite to the order and the ideals of light that he upholds; in fact, they are irreconcilable.
Neither of them spoke immediately; they simply stared at each other in silence.
There seemed to be invisible sparks crackling in the air, and a sense of oppression stemming from antagonism permeated the air, making it difficult for Dean and Sam to breathe.
A few seconds later, Wu Heng broke the silence first. He shifted his gaze from Castio to Dean and Sam, his tone still flat, but with a hint of certainty:
"What he says can be believed."
He paused, then added, as if explaining, or perhaps stating a fact:
"At least in treating John, the angels' power is indeed more 'effective' than any method we can find right now." (End of Chapter)
