Chapter 1203 Method of Renewal
“We really are like headless flies right now.” Sam looked out the window at the desolate scenery rushing by. “Instead of hiding aimlessly, we should go there and see. If it really is a War Knight, stopping it in advance can save many people.”
"That's right, it's settled then!"
Dean seemed relieved, his eyes hardening, and he immediately turned the steering wheel. The impala let out a roar and veered toward Colorado.
The entrance to Heixi Town.
Thanks to the guild's advance warning, the demon hunter Rufus Turner, Joe Javier, and her mother Ellen, who heeded the advice, did not disappear directly in the town as in the story.
Dean and Sam successfully reunited with the waiting group.
Rufus is an experienced, stern-faced old witcher.
Allen was a middle-aged woman with a resolute gaze and the alertness characteristic of a witcher family. When Joe saw Dean getting off the impala, her eyes lit up for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure and simply nodded slightly as a greeting.
She had a neat short haircut and a lithe figure; she was indeed, as Dean had said, an independent and strong girl.
Besides them, there were two middle-aged demon hunters who came in response to the guild's call. They used the materials they had accumulated over the years to exchange for the guild's low-level power potions through points. At this moment, their eyes showed both tension and a hint of excitement at wanting to try out the power as soon as possible.
A team of six people was formed as a temporary investigation team.
As soon as you enter the town, an eerie atmosphere hits you.
There were few pedestrians on the street, but everyone seemed to be in a hurry, with shifty eyes or a strange wariness and hostility towards other passersby.
It was as if everyone except himself could transform into a monstrous demon at any moment.
This atmosphere makes people subconsciously tense.
The six of them witnessed several arguments and even minor physical altercations on the street corner, all for trivial reasons—a slight bump or a disapproving glance—that could set off a heated argument.
They were all like mentally ill people with violent tendencies.
The air seemed to be filled with an invisible gunpowder smell, ready to ignite at any moment.
“These guys are like a pack of cornered beasts; the slightest provocation can send them into a frenzy,” Rufus muttered as he tried to speak with a few residents who appeared relatively calm.
“Hello, sir, I’m a reporter,” Rufus tried to speak to one of the young men.
Before he could finish speaking, the young man gave him the middle finger, pulled out a dagger from his waist, took two steps back, and unleashed a string of curses: "Fuck you, you son of a bitch!"
Rufus quickly raised his hands, took a few steps back, and explained kindly, "I just wanted to ask you a few questions, I meant no harm!"
The young man stuck out his butt and patted it: "Fuck, do you want to interview my butt? Or do you want me to kiss your face with my butt?"
He cursed loudly but inwardly as he slowly backed away, then spat and ran away quickly.
Rufus stood there awkwardly.
Qiao, who was standing to the side, smiled, tidied her hair, and said, "I'll do it."
Then they saw a middle-aged man with messy hair and casual clothes who had opened the door a crack and was secretly watching the six of them. Their eyes lit up.
He took a few steps closer and said with a smile, "Hello, sir."
"roll!"
With a loud bang, the door slammed shut, followed by the clanging sound of a lock falling from the window.
Joe's smile froze on his face. "Hahahaha." Dean couldn't help but laugh out loud, earning a fierce glare from Joe.
Dean then produced his identification and forcibly grabbed a thin, middle-aged man who looked rather frightened. The man felt the iron clamp-like force on his arm and knew he couldn't break free, so he immediately looked terrified.
"Hey, listen up, I'll ask you a few questions and then I'll let you go, otherwise..."
"Ask away, ask away! I have children at home, please don't kill me!" Despair appeared in the middle-aged man's eyes. In his eyes, this strength was simply inhuman.
Despite his thin frame, he has firm muscles and is a worker.
"What happened here? I need you to tell me the truth."
The middle-aged man hesitated for a moment, then, feeling the force in his arm suddenly tighten, he immediately spoke:
"Demons, demons are everywhere!"
His face was filled with fear as he pointed to the empty corner of the wall: "They're right there, watching us! Can't you see them?!"
Another elderly woman passing by, carrying shopping bags, walked quickly with her head down, muttering nervously to herself, "They're coming. They're going to take everything from me. I have to strike first."
After questioning the person, they released him as if they had been granted a pardon. The six of them then walked through an alley and found another passerby.
This time, Dean wanted to try a different approach.
He attempted to reveal a faint glimmer of angelic power, emitting a gentle white light, trying to soothe a man who was yelling at his wife: "Calm down, friend, look at me, it's alright."
However, when the man saw the white light emanating from Dean, he did not calm down. Instead, it was as if he had seen the most terrifying thing in the world. His face was instantly twisted with extreme fear and hatred.
"You're a demon! Get away from me! Stay away from me!"
He screamed hysterically, backing away repeatedly, even grabbing stones from the ground and trying to throw them at Dean.
This scene stunned everyone.
Especially Joe and Sam.
Even if this man mistook Sam, who was radiating demonic power, for a demon, they wouldn't be so surprised.
But he attacked Dean, who was displaying angelic power!
“This…this isn’t right!” Joe exclaimed, looking at Dean with eyes full of confusion.
Sam frowned, crouched down, and tried to keep his tone calm as he asked the man who was still cursing Dean as a 'demon' in terror, "Sir, why do you think he is a demon? What did you see?"
“The light on him is fake! It’s hellfire, a disguise!” the man cried incoherently. “I saw it! So many demons are emitting this light. They’re deceiving us, leading us to kill each other!”
"Light? Hellfire? Disguise?" Sam suddenly stood up, exchanged a glance with Dean, and a chill ran through them both.
They get it.
The problem isn't who possesses any power, but rather the people in this town whose perceptions have been distorted.
They mistakenly projected the chaos, violence, and hatred that represent 'war' onto everything they saw.
It even reversed light and darkness, good and evil!
In this town influenced by the power of the 'War' knights, the angelic light, symbolizing order and redemption, is perceived by these people as the most evil and deserving of attack—a demonic fire! (End of Chapter)
