Chapter 1226 Patient
Rows of stainless steel morgue cabinets gleamed coldly, neatly arranged. Except for Bobby, the three of them possessed extraordinary sensory abilities and could sense that these cabinets were already full.
Even so, dozens of corpses were still haphazardly piled on the ground, not even having time to be put into the cabinet.
These corpses were in various shapes and sizes, and their deaths were extremely gruesome.
Some had malignant black blisters all over their skin, constantly oozing yellowish-green pus; others had twisted and deformed limbs, with bones piercing the skin at inhuman angles; still others had strange tissues resembling fungi or insect shells growing on the surface of the corpse, as if some non-human creature was breaking out of the body from the inside.
“Oh, f***ing!” Dean suppressed the urge to vomit and looked at one of the corpses.
Its face had empty eyes, but its mouth was filled with fine, anemone-like fleshy buds.
Sam suppressed his discomfort and squatted down to examine the body. He gently touched the mutated tissue on a corpse's arm with his gloved fingers, and the tissue actually twitched slightly.
“This is not any known disease. It is a ‘new species’ that has been forcibly distorted and catalyzed by some force.” His voice was filled with suppressed anger.
“Confirmed,” Castio sensed the lingering, thick, and foul power of the laws in the air. “The Plague Knight is here, and his ‘work’ is at a crucial stage.”
Without any hesitation, Sam immediately contacted the Witcher Guild headquarters via encrypted channel, briefly reported the situation, and specifically noted that he requested that the guild leader, Wu Heng, be informed that the Apocalypse Knight "Plague" had been located.
The call was quickly transferred, and Wu Heng's voice came from the other end, so calm that it showed no sign of surprise.
“I understand the situation.” Wu Heng’s voice came through the loudspeaker. “You’ve done a good job. Now, evacuate the sanatorium area immediately and return to the training camp.”
"What?!" Dean almost thought he had misheard. "Lor, didn't you hear what I said?"
"The Plague Knight is right here. Those patients are being tortured like lab rats, turned into monsters. Shall we retreat now?"
Sam also spoke urgently into the communicator: "President Lor! We must act immediately. Every minute we delay could mean another death!"
Wu Heng's tone remained steady, yet carried an undeniable and calm quality: "I know the situation inside."
“But I have more important things to deal with right now; the water there is deeper than you can see.”
"What could be more important than stopping the Apocalypse Knights and saving the innocent?" Sam's voice carried a questioning tone.
He couldn't understand.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the communication line, followed by a barely audible sigh: "The current plague is not something the four of you can fight head-on. Immediately go to the location at coordinates 48°56′35″N, 122°08′55″W."
"Someone will meet you there. I'll get there as soon as possible!"
Filled with doubt and a hint of suppressed anger, the four of them followed the coordinates provided by Wu Heng and arrived at an abandoned farm barn several miles away from the sanatorium.
As soon as they approached the barn, several figures emerged from the shadows.
Leading the group were Sarah, the "First Medium," and Jack, the "First Gunslinger of the West," followed by an elite team of about fifteen witch hunters, well-equipped and with sharp eyes.
“Winchester? Bobby? Castillo?” Jack raised an eyebrow in surprise. “How did you find this place?”
Sam's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately asked, "How long have you been here?"
The quick-witted Jack replied without hesitation, "It's been almost a week."
"The chairman gave us a direct order to stay here and keep a close watch on that eerie sanatorium. We're not allowed to make any moves without his permission." A week ago!
These words struck Dean and his companions like a thunderbolt! Their faces instantly turned incredibly grim.
Sam looked at Dean with shock and confusion in his eyes.
Dean's brow furrowed, but he took a deep breath, nodded slightly to Sam, and conveyed the message with his eyes—trust Lorre.
If even Lor Morrick cannot be trusted, then humanity may truly have no hope in this apocalypse.
Although the feeling of being kept in the dark was awful, the Winchester brothers' resilience lay in the fact that they would never give up, even in the face of the deepest despair.
Before long, Wu Heng's figure appeared in the barn as if blending into the shadows.
Before he could speak, Sam stepped forward, his voice trembling with suppressed emotion: "You knew the Plague Knight was here a week ago? You had people monitoring him long ago, but you kept the news a secret? Why? Those vaccines, those patients... were you just going to stand by and watch?"
Dean stood beside Sam, his face grave. "Lorre, what's going on? We need an explanation."
"Don't get agitated, Sam. After going through so much, you need to learn to stay calm. This will also help you resist the effects of the demon blood." Wu Heng's gaze swept calmly over everyone, finally landing on Sam and Dean's faces.
Then he readily admitted: "Yes, I located the plague a week ago, and I kept the news under wraps."
"The reason I didn't tell you is because at that time, you were under the close 'watchful eye' of Michael and Lucifer, and they noticed your presence."
"Your actions may inadvertently attract the attention of certain entities, alerting them to your schemes."
Wu Heng paused, his tone still calm, yet revealing a deeper meaning: "This is not a lack of trust in you, but a strategic 'information isolation' to cover our tracks."
His gaze deepened, as if piercing through the barn walls and looking towards the distant death sanatorium.
"Because the Plague Knight is extremely, extremely crucial!"
"His existence, his plans, and even his lair itself are related to something far more important than simply stopping a plague."
“Let it go?” Wu Heng repeated Dean’s words, slowly shaking his head, his eyes revealing a cold sharpness for the first time. “I never thought of letting it go.”
"However, sometimes in order to dig out the deeply buried tree roots and obtain valuable fruit, we have to temporarily endure the spread of branches and leaves."
"This is a necessary process for a good harvest."
Wu Heng walked to the window, looked at the thriving weeds and trees outside, and slowly said, "There has to be something to nourish us."
"This is a sacrifice, but it's for a greater reward!"
"Things?" Sam's face darkened further. "Lorre, those patients aren't things; they're living, breathing people, and they're suffering right now!"
“Sam.” Wu Heng turned around and looked directly into Sam’s eyes. “I’ve said before that I didn’t cause those things. Many of the patients inside already had cancer.”
“Even in normal times, the torment they suffered was no easier than it is now.”
"You need to calm down. That's a prerequisite for facing any problem. Don't worry, I remember every bit of suffering those patients endured; I'm just waiting for the time to settle accounts with interest." (End of Chapter)
