Chapter 1237 The 4th Ring
Inside the office, the atmosphere froze due to the old man's mystery and the intermittent warnings about 'internet addiction'.
However, the two 'surviving' girls, protected in the middle of the group, just wanted to get out of this damned place as soon as possible.
After overcoming the initial fear, seeing that the person in front of him was just a seemingly harmless old man, he felt a sense of security from the group of witchers.
His arrogant personality, cultivated through long-term pampering, actually overwhelmed his reason.
"Hey! You old bastard!" Jenny, the girl with the injured arm, suddenly shrieked, her face filled with the rage of someone who had survived a close call and a strange sense of superiority. "What are you looking at? Open the door right now and let us out. I don't want to stay in this godforsaken place for another second!"
Her companion, mustering his courage, chimed in, "Yes, hurry up, or we'll call the police and have you arrested!"
In their eyes, with so many demon hunters on their side easily dealing with the monsters, this old man clearly looked like an ordinary living person.
Perhaps it is the mastermind behind all this, the one who summoned these evil spirits using sinister methods.
The old man continued to gaze calmly at Dean and Sam with his deep, seemingly all-encompassing eyes.
He merely glanced casually at the two girls, as if shooing away flies.
There was no light, no sound, and no energy fluctuation.
The two girls' arrogant expressions froze on their faces, and the light in their eyes went out abruptly, like a blown-out candle.
Their bodies slumped down with a dull thud, their life force instantly extinguished as if they had never existed.
"!"
All the witchers felt their hair stand on end instantly, and their weapons were all pointed at the old man.
Dean even subconsciously took a step forward, his body tense, wanting to stand in front of the Witcher, his angelic power gathering within him.
This was beyond their comprehension; it was not an attack, nor a curse, but a silent and unpredictable erasure!
"Don't even move!"
Dean and Sam shouted almost simultaneously, forcefully suppressing the restless killing intent of the team behind them.
Cold sweat beaded on their foreheads, and their hearts pounded.
Combining the incompletely transmitted information about "discovering death" from "internet addiction" with the old man's incomprehensible methods, a chilling guess emerged from their hearts.
The old man at the table seemed to have done something insignificant.
He placed the napkin back on the table, and even had the leisure to use his fork to pick up a piece of the brightly colored, undeniably delicious-looking steak from the plate, then took a hot dog from a bag beside him and gestured to Dean and Sam:
"Really not going to try it? The taste is surprisingly good."
His tone was calm, as if what had just happened was just a minor accident.
"What exactly do you want?" Sam's voice carried a hint of seriousness as he calmed himself down and analyzed the current situation.
The old man chewed slowly and swallowed his food before speaking slowly: "I'm just an old man who wanders around."
"Having lived for too long, I've grown somewhat bored with this world." His eyes truly held an ancient, lifeless stillness, and it wasn't feigned.
Dean took a deep breath and asked the most crucial question: "Who are you?"
The Death Knight put down his knife and fork, picked up the wine glass beside him, and gently swirled it. The dark red liquid looked like congealed blood under the dim light.
He looked up at Dean, a half-smile playing on his lips: "Didn't you already guess, Dean?"
“From the moment you stepped into here, each of your ‘end’ points unfolded before my eyes like a clear painting.”
He paused, his voice like that of a gentlemanly old man: "I am death."
Despite their suspicions, Dean and Sam still felt a chill run down their spines when the word was admitted to them.
Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, sat before them and offered them a dinner of meat of unknown origin.
"How old are you?" Dean asked a nearly stupid question instinctively, trying to ease the tension and buy some time.
He believed that since 'internet addiction' could send him such a warning, it must have already notified Lor.
Lor is definitely on his way.
The Death Knight seemed to find the question amusing, and he chuckled, "I should be about the same age as God, or maybe a little older?"
“Neither of us can remember, but it’s meaningless.” He waved his hand, his tone carrying a sense of detachment that seemed to have seen through everything. “Death, life, chicken, eggs. In the end, they are all meaningless. Even God’s ‘life’ will eventually be ended by me.”
"God?!" Dean thought he'd misheard, his voice rising, "You want to end... God's life?"
“Yes.” The Death Knight nodded calmly, as if stating a given fact. “God will die, Dean. Everything has an end.”
"This is simply beyond imagination," Dean murmured, his worldview being challenged like never before.
Sam, suppressing the turmoil in his heart, asked a more practical question: "Then why don't you kill us and instead sit here?"
He stared intently at the Death Knight, trying to see through the calm exterior to his true intentions. Since he could so easily kill two girls, he must have seen through the deaths of everyone else.
Therefore, killing them should be effortless.
The Death Knight swept his gaze across the crowd as if looking at ants: "This world is vast, while Earth is too small. I have no interest in, nor any need to, deliberately eliminate anything that is as bacterium to me."
"Then what do you want?"
Dean frowned, pointing straight to the core issue.
He didn't believe the Death Knight had appeared simply to chat with them and demonstrate his power.
Was it to save the other three knights?
He harbored some uneasy suspicions.
For the first time, a hint of what could be called 'emotion' flashed in the Death Knight's eyes—displeasure.
"Help me break free of my bonds." His tone remained calm, but the chill in it deepened. "Apocalypse, in my eyes, is nothing more than a boring game between two willful children, Lucifer and Michael. But Lucifer, with some filthy and ancient spells, has bound this avatar of mine that is used to interfere with reality."
His fingers tapped lightly on the table. "He controlled death and created death at will, turning hurricanes, floods, and man-made disasters into tools to achieve his goals."
"This is an insult to me."
A barely perceptible hint of anger flashed in his voice: "I'm far more powerful than you imagine, but because of certain rules, I'm bound to this grumpy and annoying brat!" (End of Chapter)
