Chapter 1327 Joy
“This is normal. Even after surgery, it takes time for the body to get used to it.” Wu Heng reached out and helped the two out of the incubation chamber. “Moreover, this is a complete body replacement. The soul and body need time to adjust. You will recover to normal within 24 hours. Now try to stand up.”
Dean gripped the edge of the bulkhead and tried to pull himself up.
His movements were clumsy at first, like a baby learning to walk, his legs trembling, but after a few minutes his muscle memory returned and he stood up unsteadily.
“It feels… much lighter.” He looked down at his hands, clenched his fist and then released it. “The power embedded in my bones is gone, but deep in my soul… it feels like something is still burning.”
Sam also stood up and tried to move his body; his movements were more steady than Dean's.
He closed his eyes and sensed for a few seconds: "The demonic mark that interfered with me is still in my soul, only its intensity has weakened. The demonic bloodline... still has remnants, but it is suppressed very deeply."
"So I am still me, and my bloodline is still that of the Winchester family." Dean grinned, the same smile as before, "only the hardware has been replaced with a new set of hardware."
He took a few steps to adjust his balance, then suddenly made a punching motion. He lost his balance halfway through the punch and almost fell to the ground.
“It will take time.” Wu Heng helped him up. “I suggest you don’t try any strenuous exercise today. Go to the rest area first. Bobby is waiting for you.”
"Does Bobby know about this?" Sam asked.
“The whole plan was known only to me, you, and Bobby.” Wu Heng opened the door to the room, which led to a brightly lit corridor. “Even David thought you were just seriously injured and receiving treatment.”
At the end of the corridor is a lounge.
Bobby sat in a wheelchair. He was no longer disabled, but used it as a stool. Although his body had recovered fifty years of lifespan, he was still an old man after all, and the fatigue after the intense battle was obvious.
He raised an eyebrow when he saw Dean and Sam walk in, naked and soaking wet.
"So this is your new look?" Bobby said. "Pretty chic."
"Come on." Dean grabbed the clothes that had been prepared on the sofa. They fit perfectly and were just his style, so he started putting them on. "You knew all along that we were going to switch bodies?"
“Lor discussed this with me.” Bobby turned his wheelchair and took out three bottles of beer from the small refrigerator next to him. “I think this is a good idea. Your original bodies have been corrupted too deeply by the power of Lucifer and Michael. They are like two pieces of clothing contaminated by radioactive material. If you continue to wear them, something bad will happen sooner or later.”
Sam took the beer, but didn't drink it immediately: "How long can this new body last?"
“It’s just like a normal body, and of course, it has a normal human lifespan.” Wu Heng also walked into the lounge and closed the door. “Without the modification of angels and demons, the rate of cell aging is normal. Theoretically, you can live to be eighty or ninety years old, if you don’t die during the demon hunt.”
Dean was already dressed, opened a beer, and took a big gulp: "So we're normal people now?"
“No.” Wu Heng sat down on the opposite sofa. “You still retain the imprint of power in your souls. You just need to awaken it and readjust. This process may take several months or even years. But the advantage is that this time the power is completely under your control, instead of being influenced by the will of Lucifer and Michael.”
"Regarding the issue of lifespan, once the power within you is restored, or you continue to receive the guild's potions for enhancement, the hundreds of years of lifespan you previously had will return."
There was a moment of silence in the room.
Sam finally took a sip of beer, then said softly, "So Apocalypse... is really over?"
“It’s over for now,” Wu Heng corrected. “Lucifer and Michael are only sealed, not destroyed. The seal needs to be continuously reinforced, otherwise it will loosen one day. The main forces of Hell and Heaven are still there, but they will fall into chaos without their leaders. The Witcher Guild’s mission remains unchanged: to maintain balance and protect humanity.”
Dean walked to the window.
Outside the window was the scene in the Balance Zone: the demon hunters were clearing the battlefield, moving the wounded, and repairing fortifications. On the distant horizon, the moon had risen, leaving only scorched earth and scattered corpses under its bright light.
“It feels like a dream,” Dean said, his back to the room. “From knowing I was Michael’s vessel, to Lucifer approaching Sam, to the prophecy of the apocalypse, to the establishment of the guild, to this battle… and now suddenly you’re telling me it’s temporarily over?” “War never truly ends,” Bobby walked up to him. “It just takes a different form. Before, it was fighting a single monster; later, it was fighting the entire hell; and next… who knows? The Mother of All Things? An invasion from other dimensions? That’s the job of a Witcher: fight one battle, catch your breath, and then prepare for the next one.”
Sam also walked to the window and stood next to Dean.
The two looked out the window at the bustling scene and remained silent for a long time.
Finally, Dean raised his beer bottle and tapped it against Sam's: "At least we're still alive."
"And he looks a few years younger." Sam smiled, a rare occurrence for him.
"Physical age is twenty-five, thank you," Dean corrected. "It's the prime of your life."
Bobby rolled his eyes from behind.
Wu Heng stood up: "You have three days to recover. After that, the guild will need you. There are still a lot of problems to deal with in the real world. The Internet Addiction System has already marked seventeen high-risk events."
"So the vacation is only three days?" Dean turned around, his face showing that familiar look of being ready to get down to business.
"Three days from now, I want to see you running, jumping, firing guns, and wielding knives normally." Wu Heng walked towards the door. "Now, go take a shower and go to sleep. The nutrient solution in your bodies is almost dried up and smells like expired yogurt."
He opened the door and looked back one last time before leaving.
Dean and Sam stood by the window, sunlight streaming in and outlining their youthful silhouettes. Bobby sat in his wheelchair, drinking beer, a faint smile playing on his lips.
There was a rare tranquility in the room.
Wu Heng closed the door, and the sound of his footsteps gradually faded away in the corridor.
In the room, Dean took another big gulp of beer and then let out a long sigh.
“So,” he said, “what’s next?”
"Take a shower," Sam said succinctly.
"Then?"
"sleep."
"And then?"
"Three days later, continue the demon hunt."
Dean laughed. "Sounds not bad."
Outside the window, the sun began to set. On the defensive line of the balance zone, the repair work on the fortifications continued. On the distant horizon, the last wisp of smoke slowly dissipated into the sky.
A new day will soon arrive.
Are the witchers ready to face it? (End of Chapter)
