Chapter 1357 Yellow Vortex
Dean leaned against the crumbling wall, the excruciating pain in his left shoulder spreading like fire, but he grinned.
Sam sat down beside him, wrapping the last bandage tightly around the wound on his chest.
Castio stood before the gradually drying yellow stain, his fingers still in the position of touching it, his eyes filled with an almost bewildered calm.
The reports from each squad continued over the communicator:
"...Sector Four cleared, twelve hosts captured..."
"...Air unit reports: No escape energy flow detected..."
"...The municipal center has confirmed that the borax concentration in the water supply system meets the purification standards..."
everything is over.
However, the feeling of victory lasted less than thirty seconds before the building began to shake.
It wasn't an aftershock from the explosion, but a deeper tremor coming from within the building's framework.
Dean was the first to feel a dull, heart-pounding pulse coming from inside the wall he was leaning against.
Once, twice, three times.
Spiderweb-like cracks appeared on the wall surface, from which a pale yellow light seeped out.
“What…” Sam propped himself up.
Before he finished speaking, the entire floor suddenly arched upwards.
The entire 48th floor of the rooftop looked as if it had been violently pushed from below by an invisible giant hand, with concrete slabs shattering, lifting, and colliding with each other.
The satellite launcher collapsed, crashing to the ground and sending sparks flying.
The corpses of the black-robed Leviathan hosts slid towards the center and piled up.
“Energy core!” Castio turned around abruptly, his face deathly pale. “Leviathan’s main consciousness has been destroyed. Its energy core is about to be destroyed. It’s buried in the foundation of this building. It’s out of control!”
As if to confirm his words, a series of muffled explosions came from inside the building.
Large sections of the glass curtain wall are peeling off, and steel bars are twisted and protruding from the concrete, like the exposed ribs of a dying beast.
In the center of the top floor, a huge crack appeared in the ground.
A hole with a diameter of more than ten meters appeared, its edges so neat as if it had been cut out. Inside the hole, there was only a rolling, thick yellow light, like liquid amber.
Deep within the light, a vortex was forming, initially slowly, then accelerating and spinning, its center growing increasingly dark, like an open eye.
Then a tremendous suction force appeared.
The air was pulled and rushed towards the opening, and broken glass, cement blocks, and broken steel bars—everything that wasn't fixed in place—began to slide.
Dean grabbed onto an exposed steel bar, Sam clung to a pillar, and Castio used his last angelic strength to pin himself to the ground.
But the suction is constantly increasing.
The dark point at the center of the vortex began to expand, like a greedy mouth, devouring the surrounding light, sound, and everything.
Dean felt his fingers slipping as he gripped the steel bar, his nails cracking and blood seeping out. The pillar on Sam's side groaned under the weight, the cement at its base crumbling.
A terrified scream came from the communicator:
"What's going on downstairs?! We're on the 30th floor. The ceiling is collapsing!"
"Retreat! Everyone retreat!"
"No! The stairwell is blocked! There's a yellow light coming from the elevator shaft!"
"Help--!"
The sound stopped suddenly.
Communication was cut off, and people were being sucked away one after another. Dean could feel that the energy of all the witchers, all the demons, and all the lives that had not yet been able to evacuate in the entire building was rapidly disappearing, like pencil marks being erased by an eraser.
The vortex expanded to cover the entire top floor.
The edge of the yellow vortex touched Dean's feet. He felt his very existence being stretched, diluted, and decomposed. The wound on his left shoulder stopped bleeding, because the blood evaporated into specks of light the instant it left his body, flying towards the center of the vortex.
"Hold on tight!" Sam roared, but his voice was distorted by the suction.
Castio looked at them, then at the vortex. His angelic power was almost gone, but the lingering Leviathan aura within him gave him some resistance to the yellow light, though it could only protect him for a few seconds.
Trying to protect two people... is impossible.
He made a decision immediately.
He loosened his grip on his body, letting the suction pull him along, but instead of flying into the vortex, he lunged at Dean and Sam, grabbing their arms with both hands. Then he used his last bit of angelic power to form a ball, tightly binding the three of them together.
"We live together, or we die." Castio's voice was soft, but sharp as a blade amidst the howling suction.
The words were not finished.
The vortex unleashed its final suction force.
The entire building, from its foundation to its roof, was completely engulfed in a yellow vortex in that instant. Yellow light shot into the sky like a waterfall flowing backward, dyeing the night sky a sickly amber color.
The light lasted for three seconds.
Then it goes out.
All that remained was a giant crater, hundreds of meters in diameter and bottomless, with smooth, mirror-like walls and a surface covered in pale yellow crystals, like scabs from a huge wound.
There was nothing at the bottom of the pit.
There were no ruins, no corpses, and no bloodstains.
There was only absolute nothingness.
At the same time, throughout the city of Grantspass.
The secret base is located on the third basement level of Sulford Hospital.
This place originally housed more than 300 human hosts who were classified and stored.
The Class A 'reproductive host' was kept in a separate glass compartment, with feeding tubes inserted into its body, and its consciousness was in a semi-comatose state maintained by drugs.
Category B 'short-term nutrients' are crammed into the cage, their eyes vacant, with Leviathan larvae wriggling under their skin.
The Class C 'experimental material' was strapped to the operating table, its body cut open, its internal organs exposed, but it was still alive.
The moment the energy core exploded and Leviathan's main consciousness was completely annihilated, all the hosts froze simultaneously, and then they began to scream.
It was a sound of liberation, madness, and a roar mixed with cries and laughter.
The yellow in their eyes faded, returning to the normal human color, but they were filled with immense fear and confusion from just regaining consciousness. They tore off the tubes binding them, smashed open the cage door, and stumbled and pushed each other toward the exit.
The low-level Leviathan hosts guarding this place lost their commander and stood frozen in place like puppets with broken strings.
Several daring hosts pounced on them, attacking them with whatever tools they could grab, such as scalpels, iron pipes, and even their own teeth.
There was no organization, no tactics, only the most primitive form of resistance.
Ten minutes later, the first group of hosts rushed out of the hospital and into the night streets. They were barefoot, wearing hospital gowns, and had injuries, but they were still alive.
The low-level Leviathans disguised as humans on the street are collapsing.
They once perfectly mimicked human behavior: going to work, shopping, picking up children, and queuing at coffee shops.
But now that they have lost the unified command of the main consciousness, their programs have become chaotic.
Some stood motionless at the crossroads, their eyes yellowed, muttering broken words; others began attacking everything around them, but their movements were clumsy, and they were quickly found by the angry witchers.
When the police arrived, they were met with a surreal scene. (End of Chapter)
