Infinity: Kill your way through the movie world.
Chapter 1367 Spread
A few seconds later, Renault's 'internet addiction' communicator on his waist vibrated.
He took it out and found that the screen was lit up, no longer a black screen that had crashed, but displaying a simple interface:
In the top left corner is his name and vital signs, in the middle is a radar-style map, a blue dot represents himself, twenty-three green dots represent his teammates, and a striking red arrow points behind him, which is the direction of the rift entrance.
In the bottom right corner, there is a line of small text: Signal strength 73%, connected to base station #001, coverage radius 0.9km.
"Success!" a technician shouted excitedly.
But the excitement only lasted three seconds.
Because heavy footsteps suddenly came from the thick fog in front of us.
Many footsteps approached from all directions.
Then, shadows appeared one after another; the biteers were those humanoid monsters with twisted joints, numbering at least thirty.
"Defend the base station!" Renault drew his pistol, a specially made borax bullet pistol with a magazine capacity of fifteen rounds. "The rest of you, proceed as planned, split into three groups, and move in different directions. Remember to deploy a base station every seven kilometers, then leave two people to guard it, and the rest of you continue forward!"
The group quickly dispersed.
One group headed east, another west, and Renault led the third group south.
They trudged along the writhing ground, shooting at the approaching monsters.
Deploying base stations is like planting a flag in a minefield.
Once they reached a relatively open location, they put down the boxes and began assembling them.
The moment the crystal ball lights up, the communicator reconnects, but it also attracts all nearby infernal creatures.
Fight, deploy, leave two behind, and continue onward.
Two hours later, the Reynolds team deployed the fourth base station.
On the communicator screen, yellow dots representing base stations are scattered across the radar image like sparse constellations.
The signal coverage area extends approximately forty kilometers outward from the crack entrance, exhibiting an irregular radial pattern.
As the deployment continued, losses also occurred.
The guard team at the seventh base station reported encountering the 'Screamer,' a flying monster. Communication was cut off after a piercing scream, and the two green dots disappeared from the radar image.
The tenth base station was attacked by a group of 'creepers' as soon as it lit up. The guards fought desperately and killed eleven of them, but the base station was knocked down by a monster, the crystal ball shattered, and the signal disappeared.
Renault stared blankly at the ever-expanding signal network and the occasional flickering lights on the screen. He knew there would be sacrifices, but the numbers still stung.
“Continue,” he said firmly.
In the makeshift camp, Castio suddenly stood up.
The angel plaque in his hand was vibrating; it wasn't an illusion, but a clear, rhythmic tremor, like the beating of a resurrected heart.
"We have a signal." His voice was soft but filled with excitement, and everyone heard it.
Benny rushed over: "Where did you come from? How far?"
Castio closed his eyes and focused all his senses on the nameplate.
The tremor came from the southeast.
The distance is uncertain, but it should be within 15 to 20 kilometers, and it is not a fixed signal source; it is moving, at a slow speed, like... walking.
“They’re humans.” Castio opened his eyes, a glimmer of hope flashing in his golden pupils. “Not angels, but humans carrying beacons supported by Heaven’s technology. They’re approaching us.”
A suppressed cheer erupted from the camp.
But they quickly quieted down, knowing that in purgatory, hope often comes with greater danger.
“We need to respond proactively.” Castio gripped the nameplate tightly. “The nameplate can emit short pulses to guide them, but it will reveal our position.” “So what if we’re exposed?” Jack tightened his grip on his machete. “It’s better than waiting here to die.”
Castio nodded.
He held the nameplate in his palm, concentrated the remaining angelic power, and infused it into the resonant runes inside the nameplate.
The nameplate began to glow, its dark gold turning into a bright gold, like a small patch of solidified sunlight.
He emitted the pulse towards the southeast.
An invisible energy wave pierced through the metal debris, penetrated the thick fog, and spread into the distance.
The Reynolds team is deploying its twelfth base station.
Suddenly, Renault's communicator on his waist beeped urgently. It wasn't an alarm, but a notification tone he hadn't heard before. He took it out, and a new window popped up in the center of the screen:
[Unknown beacon pulse detected, azimuth 147°, distance approximately 13.2km, pulse characteristic analysis in progress...]
[Feature Matching: Angel Nameplate (Castio Miller) registered, signal strength: weak, status: active guidance.]
Renault's heart pounded.
"We've found them!" he roared immediately. "Attention everyone! Target location: 147°, distance: 13.2 kilometers! Repeat, some of the missing persons have been found!"
Excited responses came through the communicator from other groups; on the radar screen, all the green dots in this direction began to converge in that direction.
Almost simultaneously, numerous red dots appeared at the edge of the screen, indicating that the monsters, attracted by the pulse, were surging toward the signal source from all directions.
"Speed up!" Renault ordered. "We must get there before the monsters surround us!"
They discarded unnecessary equipment, carrying only weapons and a small amount of ammunition, and began to run.
Running on the writhing ground is extremely exhausting; every step feels like sinking into mud, and pulling yourself out requires extra effort, but no one stops.
Thirteen kilometers, on flat ground, can be covered in just a few tens of minutes by a Witcher with the physical abilities to push the limits of the human body.
But they spent an hour here.
When the radar showed that it was only 500 meters away from the target, Renault saw the metal wreckage, which looked like a rusty steel tomb against the dark red background.
A figure was waving at the entrance to the wreckage.
They were demon hunters, wearing tattered but familiar guild uniforms, their faces etched with tired yet ecstatic smiles.
"Captain Reno!" Jack shouted, "Over here!"
Renault's team rushed into the wreckage entrance.
The space inside was larger than he had imagined, and it was packed with people. He spotted Castio immediately; the angel was standing in the center of the crowd, and the nameplate in his hand was still glowing.
"How many people?" Renault asked, panting.
“One hundred and thirty-four people, all alive after regrouping,” Castio said happily. “Dean and Sam are on guard on the other side, they’ll be right back.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Dean and Sam ran in through a passageway, both covered in blood and grime, but their eyes shone with an alarming brightness.
"I knew you'd come." Dean grinned, though it was a forced smile. "Lead the way home, Captain."
Renault nodded, but his expression was serious: "The road home is difficult. Our energy can only last for 24 hours, and now... eight hours have passed."
"Moreover, we have deployed base stations along the way, which have attracted a large number of monsters. On the way back, we will definitely be besieged."
“Then let’s fight our way out,” Sam said, raising his shotgun. “We’ve been killing monsters here for a month, one more battle won’t make a difference.”
"A month?"
“Yes, the flow of time is different in many places here.” Dean nodded. (End of Chapter)
