Chapter 1482 The Battle to Conquer the Heavens
"I won't tear myself apart!"
Isaac did not answer; he jumped off the watchtower and headed toward the palace of hell.
Elena stood at the entrance of the Frozen Valley.
Michelle walked over from the direction of the rift in the holy light, her face grim: "I can hear something crying from the other side of Heaven, not human crying, but the sound of souls being crushed."
Elena stood up: "Where's Kyle?"
"In a vital passageway of space."
The spatial passage is located at the border between hell and the human world.
Kyle's figure crouched in the void, his white eyes fixed on the widening crack in front of him—not the crack in the Heavenly Barrier, but another kind of crack.
On the wall of the passageway, something is pushing outward from the inside.
He reached out and touched the crack, feeling a cold, viscous energy at his fingertips.
It wasn't the holy light of angels, nor the darkness of hell, but something else. He pulled his hand back and looked at his fingertips; the black lines pulsated beneath his skin.
He stood up and walked toward the palace of hell.
Leila sat in the medical camp, an empty shell lying in front of her.
It was just delivered today. A young woman, in her early twenties, in good health, breathing steadily, with her eyes open, but not looking at anything.
Lyra placed her hand on her forehead, and golden light surged from her palm, seeping into her skin. The empty shell did not react; the light circulated within her body and returned along the same path.
Leila withdrew her hand.
She had tried seven times, without success each time. Her healing energy was completely ineffective against the empty shell. She looked down at the six eyes on the back of her hand, which were half-open as if they were dozing off.
"What's wrong?" a voice came from the doorway.
Leila looked up; it was Martin.
“It can’t be cured,” Leila sighed. “Their bodies are fine, but their souls are gone. My energy can’t reach their lost souls.”
Martin patted her on the shoulder: "It's not your problem."
Leila shook her head: "I know, but every time I see them, I feel like I'm not strong enough."
Martin was silent for a moment: "Then become stronger."
Leila looked up at him.
"How will it change?"
Martin thought for a moment and said, "I don't know, but Chairman Lor might have a way."
One day later, in the Palace of Hell.
All ten people were present. Wu Heng sat in the steel chair with Hans's three-dimensional data diagram in front of him. The lines were thicker and denser than last week, and the small hole in the Heavenly Wall had become as thick as a finger.
“Metatron’s sword is almost finished,” Wu Heng said. “He needs more souls, more energy; the Heavenly Barrier can’t hold on any longer.”
He looked at everyone present.
"It's time. Rather than being passively attacked, we should strike first."
Isaac asked, "How do we fight?"
Wu Heng stood up and walked to the map: "Three routes to attack Heaven."
He pointed to three lines on the map.
"On the left flank, Isaac, Thomas, and Karim, break through from the Nordic aurora belt. That's where the Heaven and Hell barriers are weakest. Your mission is to tie down Heaven's main force and prevent them from supporting the center."
Isaac nodded, and Thomas twirled the hunting blade.
"Finally, we can get started."
"Right flank, Elena, Michelle, Kyle, infiltrate from the Heavenly Rift above the Pacific Ocean. Hans detected a tiny energy rift there, possibly caused during the forging of a sacred weapon. Your mission is to find the core of the forging process, destroy it, or at least delay its completion."
Elena's icy hair swayed gently: "What if the core is heavily guarded?"
“Then draw them away.” Kyle’s figure emerged from the void. “I can get in.”
Wu Heng looked towards the middle lane.
"In the middle, I will personally lead the remaining knights and elite witchers in a frontal assault on Heaven's Gate."
Leila raised her hand: "What should I do?"
"You stay in the rear. If there are wounded in the battle, you will be the last line of defense." Leila lowered her hand.
"clear."
Martin stepped forward: "The troop deployment of each unit is complete: 300,000 on the left flank, 200,000 on the right flank, 500,000 in the center, plus reserves, for a total of 1.2 million."
Thomas whistled.
After the meeting ended, the old man of death came again. He was waiting for Wu Heng in a side hall of the Hell Palace, sitting in a chair with a teacup in his hand. The tea had gone cold, but he didn't drink it.
Seeing Wu Heng come in, he put down his cup.
“I have used the Death Ring to restore order to death in the human world. The rate at which souls disappear will slow down, but it won’t stop. Metatron’s knife keeps drawing them in, and I can’t stop it.”
Wu Heng sat opposite him.
"That's enough, just go slower."
The Death Knight looked at him and said, "The aura of God has not appeared, so you can proceed with confidence."
Wu Heng nodded.
“I will not directly participate in the war.” The Death Knight stood up. “But I can set up a death barrier in the human world. If Metatron tries to escape, he will not be able to enter the human world. Death will stop him until you arrive.”
"it is good."
The Death Knight straightened his trench coat: "Lor, do you know how many people will die in this battle?"
Wu Heng looked at him and said, "I know."
"You don't care?"
Wu Heng did not answer. The Death Knight looked at him for a while, then turned and left.
The next day, Wu Heng announced this to humanity via global broadcast.
His voice was heard in every corner through guild channels, government channels, and community radio.
“I am the guild master of the Witcher Guild. Metatron of Heaven is using the souls of your loved ones to forge a weapon of destruction. In the past month, he has extracted the souls of more than two million people, leaving them as empty shells. He will continue to extract until his weapon is completed, until there is no one left alive in this world.”
He paused.
"We will storm Heaven and end this. Today, the Witchers set out. Pray for them."
Reactions varied around the world after the broadcast ended.
In London, old John sat on his doorstep, the radio still echoing. He took the empty cigarette holder from his mouth, pointed it at the sky, and said, "Kill them."
In Times Square, New York, Wu Heng's speech was playing on a giant billboard.
The crowd stood in the square, applauding heavily.
In Tokyo, the bald man and the girl stood at the entrance of the shelter. The broadcast had stopped, but the bald man was still standing there, clutching the recruitment flyer in his hand.
“They’re really going to attack Heaven,” the bald man said.
The girl stood next to him and said, "Mm."
What can we do?
The girl thought for a moment: "How about we donate?"
The bald man was stunned for a moment.
"Donate what?"
"Money, supplies, anything is fine, we have to do something."
The bald man took out the few bills he had and put them into the donation box. The girl also took out hers, and the people in line behind him also took out theirs.
The square in front of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
People knelt on the ground, not to pray, but to see someone off.
The demon hunters, about to embark on their expedition, walked across the square. People reached out and touched their arms, shoulders, and backpacks. No one spoke; there was only silence, a silent farewell.
The priest stood at the church entrance, holding a cross, blessing every witcher who passed by.
A young witcher stopped, his tone somewhat mocking: "Father, do you believe God will protect us during this attack on Heaven?"
The pastor was silent for a moment: "I believe you will bless yourselves."
The young witcher smiled, turned, and walked away. (End of Chapter)
