Du Kang, a name that will go down in history in Chinese culture.

He was not only the sixth monarch of the Xia Dynasty, but also a representative figure of wine culture.

There are many names for wine, one of which is Du Kang.

He was the first person to make wine in my country. He was known as the Wine Saint and the ancestor of the winemaking industry.

Because of the story that Du Kang made wine, the name Du Kang became synonymous with wine in Chinese culture, and the famous Chinese historical wine Du Kang also came from this.

"The Xia Dynasty was the first slave dynasty recorded in history books. It was founded by Yu, passed to Xia Qi, and Xia Qi passed to Taikang."

"Taikang was arrogant and extravagant, and enslaved the people. He was seized by the chieftain of the Dongyi tribe, Houyi, and lost his kingdom."

"After Hou Yi occupied the capital of the Xia Dynasty, he expelled Tai Kang."

"Appoint Taikang's younger brother Zhongkang as a puppet king to take charge of the Xia Dynasty's political power."

"Hanyue is trusted by Houyi to handle state affairs."

"Send someone to kill Hou Yi, seize power, and ascend the throne as king."

"After Taikang and Zhongkang died, Zhongkang's son Si succeeded him, and Si Xiang moved the capital to Diqiu."

"Han Xuan sent his two sons to attack Diqiu and kill Si Xiang."

"After Du Kang's father Si Xiang was killed, his mother fled back to the Youren tribe."

"The next year, Du Kang was born. His mother was the daughter of the ruler of the Youren clan."

"The mother told Du Kang about the tragic experiences before and after the destruction of the country and the murder of her father."

"Du Kang then resolved to avenge his grievances and revive the Xia Dynasty."

"Du Kang served as the chief herdsman of the Youren tribe, managing livestock and working diligently."

"Whenever you have time, learn how to lead troops in battle and be careful of Han Xuan's pursuit."

"Han Xuan heard about Du Kang's existence, so he sent people to You Ren's family to search for Du Kang."

"Du Kang had already made preparations and fled to the Youyu clan, descendants of Shun."

"The King of Yu appointed Du Kang to the post of Pao Zheng, an official who was in charge of food."

"Du Kang accidentally discovered that grains that had been stored for a long time produced a very sweet drink. He studied it over and over again and invented the original brewing technique, becoming the ancestor of the brewing industry."

"Du Kang was so brave and heroic that the king of Yu State married his two daughters to him."

"The surname of the Youyu clan was Yao, and they were called the Two Yaos in history."

"At the same time, Du Kang was granted a territory and 500 people, so he settled here."

"In order to accumulate strength, Du Kang contacted the remnants of the Xia Dynasty and obtained the support of Bo Mi, a remnant of the Xia Dynasty."

"When Hanyue killed Houyi, Bomi was also hunted down and fled to Youge clan."

"Bo Mi recruited soldiers and horses in Youge clan, and took in many clansmen from the vassal states of Zhenguan clan and Zhenxun clan."

"Du Kang sent his son to seek refuge with Han Xuan's two sons, Jiao and Zhu, as a spy to deliver messages."

"Afterwards, Du Kang plotted to assassinate Jiao, and then led his troops to destroy Zhu."

"Du Kang's restoration of the country inspired the old members of the Xia Dynasty, and they all joined in."

"Du Kang saw that the situation was favorable and pursued the victory."

"Lead the troops to attack the capital of Xia, kill Han Xuan, and take back power."

"Restored the rule of the Xia Dynasty and became the sixth monarch of the Xia Dynasty."

Ying Zheng: It is said that after Du Kang invented wine, Huangdi specially created the word "wine" for it.

Legend has it that during the Yellow Emperor period, Du Kang was in charge of grain management.

Autumn arrived and there was a bumper harvest of grain. Du Kang carefully piled up all the harvested grain in the cave.

After a long time, due to the dampness in the cave, all the food became moldy.

When Huangdi found out about this, he was very angry and threatened to execute Du Kang if the grain went moldy again.

One day, Du Kang discovered an open area in Kongsangjian.

There were several large mulberry trees around that had died, leaving only thick trunks that were hollow inside.

Du Kang suddenly had an idea, thinking that if the grain was stored in the tree hole, it might not get moldy.

Not long after, Du Kang put all the food into the tree hole.

Who would have thought that there would be good harvests in those years and grain would be everywhere.

The food stored in the tree hole had no time to be used. After a few years of being exposed to wind, sun and rain, it slowly fermented.

One day, when Du Kang went up the mountain to check on the grain, he suddenly found many goats and wild boars lying around a dead mulberry tree full of grain.

At first, Du Kang thought they were all dead, so he strode over and wanted to take these wild animals back to eat.

But when he got closer, Du Kang found that they were still alive and seemed to be sleeping.

Du Kang couldn't figure out the reason for a moment and was very puzzled.

At this time, a wild boar woke up, and when he saw someone coming, he staggered into the woods.

When Du Kang walked back, he found two goats coming to the tree hole containing food, lowering their heads and licking something with their tongues.

Du Kang hid behind a tree and observed. He saw that the two goats licked the food for a while and then lay down on the ground staggeringly.

Du Kang looked over and was shocked.

It turned out that the tree hole that stored the grain had cracked, and the water inside kept seeping out. The goat licked the water before falling to the ground.

Du Kang smelled the water and found it particularly fragrant.

He also took a bite and found that although the taste was spicy, it was particularly mellow.

The more he tasted it, the more he wanted to taste it. Finally, after taking a few sips, he felt dizzy and fell to the ground and fell asleep.

After an unknown amount of time, Du Kang woke up and found that the goats that had fallen down had also run away.

So he took off the jar from his waist, filled a jar of water and brought it back for everyone to taste.

After Huangdi knew about it, he also tasted the fragrant water brought by Du Kang and found it mellow and delicious.

When Huangdi was discussing matters with his ministers, the ministers believed that this water was the vital energy of grain, not poisonous water, and that this water should be given a name.

Cangjie, the minister who created characters for Huangdi at that time, stepped forward and created the character for wine based on the meaning of getting water on the You day.

From then on, Huangdi ordered Du Kang to make Du Kang wine with grain.

"After Du Kang became emperor, he revived the government, restored the rule of the Xia Dynasty, and established the capital in Luncheng."

"Hold a grand ceremony, reward meritorious officials, and eliminate treacherous officials."

"At the same time, he led the princes to worship the Nine Cauldrons, offer sacrifices to their ancestors, and issue an edict to all the princes in the world."

"Learning from the lessons of Taikang, Houyi and Hanyue, Du Kang came to power."

"Vigorously develop agricultural production, restore the agricultural official system, and invite Hou Yi's descendants to continue to serve as agricultural officials."

“Send envoys to various states to promote the importance of agriculture and urge the people to cultivate the land.”

"The performance of the princes will be assessed based on the quality of their agriculture, and rewards and punishments will be given accordingly."

"Floods have severely affected agricultural harvests, and the Yellow River has been in disrepair for many years."

"When there is heavy rain, the river overflows and submerges the crops on both sides."

"Du Kang appointed Qi's sixth-generation grandson Ming as the water official to lead the people in regulating the Yellow River."

"After many years of water management, Ming finally died of illness at his post."

"After Du Kang's management, the Xia Dynasty prospered for a time."

"The small countries that were originally dependent on Hanyue came to rely on Du Kang after seeing his wisdom and kindness."

"The princes of several states came to support Du Kang, which was known in history as Shao Kang's Restoration."

"In his later years, Du Kang granted his son a fiefdom to worship the tomb of his ancestor Dayu."

"Du Kang was frugal and diligent, and he achieved the revival of the Xia Dynasty."

"Du Kang was a rare wise ruler in history. Soon after the restoration of the country, he gave up the throne to his son Si Zhu."

"He abdicated and devoted himself to the research and promotion of wine-making techniques, which spread rapidly first in the royal court and then among the people."

"Du Kang was honored as a worthy disciple of Yu Temple in many places because he revived the Xia Dynasty."

"Du Kang put an end to the fragmentation of the country during the reigns of the three Xia rulers, Taikang, Zhongkang and Xiang."

"After about a hundred years of chaos, a relatively unified country was restored."

"Du Kang's son Si Zhu reigned for seventeen years, devoted himself to the revival of the Xia Dynasty, and launched a large-scale invasion of the Dongyi."

"As a result, the country's strength increased greatly, and it attacked all the way to the coast of the East China Sea, and then moved the capital to Laoqiu."

"The Xia Dynasty entered a period of rejuvenation under the leadership of Du Kang and reached its peak during the reign of Si Zhu."

"China is one of the countries with a long history of winemaking. As early as the Shang Dynasty, there were pictographs of wine in the oracle bone inscriptions."

"By the Zhou Dynasty, China's winemaking technology had developed to a fairly high level."

"Du Kang is the originator of Chinese winemaking, the source of Chinese fine wines, and a famous wine in Chinese history and culture."

"The Chinese wine culture represented by Du Kang is permeated with the essence of Chinese culture and has become a unique cultural tradition of the Chinese nation."

"This tradition has played many roles in promoting the development of human civilization."

Cao Cao: My success is due to Du Kang, and my failure is also due to Du Kang.

It was common for him to drink wine to boost his morale when he was not leading his troops in battle, and his favorite drink was the mellow Du Kang wine.

Remember during the Battle of Guandu, Yuan Shao sent troops to attack him.

The two armies lined up at Guandu, ready to fight a decisive battle.

Yuan Shao was a warlord in the north, with many soldiers and generals, and his strength was far superior to his.

So he was uneasy and spent the whole day looking for ways to defeat the enemy.

One night, he called Guo Jia to seek countermeasures.

Guo Jia took out the Ten Victories Theory he had written and gave it to him. After reading it, he applauded loudly and gave Guo Jia some Du Kang wine as a reward.

When he was slightly tipsy, he heard from outside the tent that the famous scholar Xu You had come to seek refuge. He didn't even put on his shoes, but ran out of the tent to greet him, holding a bowl of Du Kang wine in his hand.

Xu You was deeply moved by such hospitality and the barefoot greeting.

After the two men sat down, Cao Cao couldn't wait to ask Xu You if he had any good ideas to defeat the enemy.

The two of them drank Du Kang wine while discussing strategies.

Du Kang tea is sweet and mellow, and Xu You likes it very much.

However, the alcohol was so strong that they both fell asleep without realizing it.

When I woke up, it was almost dawn.

Xu You looked at the wine in the glass, feeling unsatisfied, and said that he had come up with a plan in his dream.

So he proposed a plan to burn Wuchao.

He used Xu You's strategy to defeat Yuan Shao in one fell swoop.

Then the news spread in the army that Du Kang had given advice in a dream, and that the main contributor to the great victory over Yuan Shao should be Du Kang.

After he pacified the north, there was jubilation in the army.

A big banquet every three days and a small banquet every five days.

Both military generals and civil officials were drunk all day long.

But his joy did not last long, as the mere north was not enough to sing about.

What he was thinking about was how to lead his troops south and unify the country.

He consulted with his advisers on the best time to lead his troops south.

Everyone believed that at this time, the army was strong and the morale was high, and it was a godsend opportunity to pacify the world in one fell swoop.

However, counselor Jia Xu believed that since the north had just been pacified, it was better to appease the people rather than mobilize a large army on a long expedition to Jiangdong.

He felt that it made sense and couldn't make up his mind for a moment.

That night, he drank alone in his room and fell asleep before he knew it.

In his dream, he saw thousands of miles of fertile fields in Jiangdong and good weather.

After waking up, he thought it was another hint from Du Kang.

So he led an army of one million and headed straight for Jiangdong, despite Jia Xu's dissuasion.

He confronted the allied forces of Sun Quan and Liu Bei across the Yangtze River, preparing for a decisive battle at Chibi.

At nightfall, he stood on the warship and saw his powerful army and the warships stretching for hundreds of miles, and he felt deeply moved.

He recalled how he had raised his army in Ningling and fought dozens of battles, big and small, along the way.

So many difficulties and obstacles, so many dangers.

It is only through hard work and dedication that we have achieved what we have today, and I feel very proud of myself at that moment.

So he ordered someone to bring Du Kang wine, drank it all in one gulp, and wrote "Short Song" with his pen.

Wine and song, life geometry.

For example, the morning dew has a lot of suffering.

We should be generous and unforgettable with worries.

Du Kang is the only one who can relieve worries.

However, he miscalculated that time. Due to his poor use of personnel, he fell into Huang Gai's counter-espionage scheme and was completely defeated.

From then on, they retreated to the north and no longer had the ability to retake Jiangdong.

Naturally, people did not know the real reason for his failure and they all thought that he lost the battle because he was drunk.

Therefore, the saying "Success and failure are both due to Du Kang" became popular among the people.

"After Du Kang invented wine, a wide variety of fine wines emerged, including white wine, yellow wine, fruit wine, etc."

"Du Kang's contribution is not only to create the brewing method of sorghum wine, but also to make baijiu famous as one of the six famous distilled liquors."

"Moreover, Du Kang is also a cultural inheritor and the epitome of the diligence and wisdom of the Chinese nation."

"Du Kang's contribution was to popularize winemaking technology."

"Before Du Kang, China already had a long history of winemaking."

"But before Du Kang, winemaking technology was not very mature."

"After Du Kang's improvements and inventions, winemaking technology has been greatly improved, and the taste and quality of wine have been greatly improved."

"The wine brewed by Du Kang also promoted winemaking technology to a certain extent, allowing it to be spread and developed more widely."

"Du Kang was not only successful in making wine, but he also had a high level of attainment in wine culture."

"It is said that Du Kang once said that the origin of food and drink all lies in wine."

“With wine as the source, it can permeate all etiquette.”

“Anyone who does not understand its meaning can learn it by observing it through drinking.”

"This shows that Du Kang believed that wine was part of Chinese culture and that it could influence the development of the entire social culture."

"Du Kang is not only of great significance to the inheritance of Chinese wine culture, but his contribution to the long history of mankind cannot be underestimated."

"It is precisely because of the export of Chinese culture that human history has been further expanded and enriched."

"It is not difficult to see this through an overview of the life and contributions of Du Kang, the wine saint."

"Du Kang is not only a famous figure in the history of Chinese culture, but also a representative of the Chinese wine culture and historical value."

"From his winemaking technology to the inheritance of wine culture and his influence on human history, all these demonstrate the value of Du Kang."

“As Du Kang said, with wine as the source, it can permeate all rituals.”

“Wine culture is not only an interpretation of food, but also an influence and carrier of the entire social culture.”

"It is Du Kang's contribution to the inheritance of wine culture that allows future generations to glimpse the history of Chinese civilization from the history of wine."

Li Shimin: Du Kang made wine and Liu Ling got drunk, and he was drunk for three whole years.

Liu Ling was one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove during the Wei and Jin Dynasties and was famous for his love of wine.

Although Liu Ling was an out-and-out drunkard, he was still a very talented poet.

However, Liu Ling was the one with the lowest status among the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove. The other six were either of noble birth or had some official position, and their lives were very fulfilling.

In contrast, Liu Ling's life was not so smooth.

Liu Ling also served as an official at the beginning, but he was a very genuine person and was very upright in everything he did. People like this suffer the most in officialdom.

Because I don’t know how to curry favor with others, I have never learned how to flatter.

So not long after serving as an official, Liu Ling resigned and returned home because he could not stand the exclusion from others.

As a result, Liu Ling saw through the darkness of officialdom and never entered the official career again.

Liu Ling loved wine, and the most famous wine in the Wei and Jin Dynasties was Du Kang. According to legend, there is a magical story about Liu Ling and Du Kang.

According to legend, Liu Ling loved drinking and was a very good drinker.

His drinking capacity is unparalleled in the world.

Because he was dissatisfied with the officialdom at that time, Liu Ling often traveled and drank.

Once Liu Ling came to the south of Luoyang and walked to the door of Du Kang Winery.

I looked up and saw a couplet on the door that read, "A tiger gets drunk in the mountains with one cup, a dragon sleeps in the sea with two cups."

A banner high up reads, "Don't get drunk for three years without paying."

When Liu Ling saw the couplet, he entered the tavern and asked for good wine.

Du Kang took out some wine and asked him to drink. After drinking one glass, he wanted to drink more, so Du Kang advised him not to drink any more.

But Liu Ling came here just to challenge the opponent, so there was no reason for him not to drink.

So he drank the second cup immediately. Du Kang saw that he had drunk two cups in a row and would be drunk if he drank more, so he advised him again not to drink anymore.

But Liu Ling was stubborn and refused to listen, and asked for a third cup.

After drinking three cups of wine, Liu Ling felt that the first cup was as sweet as honey, the second cup was sweeter than honey, and after drinking the third cup, he felt dizzy.

After drinking three cups of wine, Liu Ling got drunk. He walked out of the winery and headed home, staggering from side to side and mumbling nonsense.

Liu Ling had been drinking for so many years and knew that he was really drunk this time, so he told his wife as soon as he got home.

When he was about to die, they buried him by the wine pool, covered him with lees, and put wine cups and jugs in his coffin.

Liu Ling had been drunk before, but he would sober up after a good night’s sleep every time.

But this time Liu Ling did not wake up for three days in a row. His wife panicked and quickly asked neighbors for help.

The neighbors were helpless. They slapped him in the face and poured cold water on him, but he just couldn't wake up.

So they called in doctors, but several doctors were unable to wake Liu Ling up.

When the doctor saw that Liu Ling had no vital signs, he told his wife to prepare for his funeral.

Liu Ling loved drinking all his life and eventually died from excessive drinking. He really brought disaster upon himself.

Since Liu Ling had made arrangements for his funeral arrangements, his wife fulfilled his wish and buried him beside the wine pool.

Three years passed unknowingly. One day, Du Kang, the owner of the winery, came to the village to ask Liu Ling for money for the wine, because the signature feature of the wine was that if you didn't get drunk for three years, you wouldn't have to pay.

Liu Ling's wife went forward to open the door. After hearing the reason, she became very angry and immediately wanted to settle the score with Du Kang.

Upon seeing this, Du Kang hurriedly said that Liu Ling was not dead, but drunk.

The two men came to the place where Liu Ling was buried, dug up the grave and opened the coffin.

As expected, Liu Ling was still neatly dressed and had a rosy complexion, just as he had been in life.

Du Kang stepped forward and patted Liu Ling on the shoulder to wake him up.

Liu Ling indeed yawned, stretched his arms, opened his eyes, and muttered something about good wine.

From then on, Du Kang wine became more and more famous. (End of this chapter)
