Du Mu was an outstanding poet of the late Tang Dynasty. He was as famous as Du Fu and was known as Little Du.

He was unsuccessful in politics and was often demoted, but he achieved great success in literature.

His ancient poems have been passed down to this day, and each one is a masterpiece.

Du Mu lived a life of displacement throughout his life. Perhaps it was his difficult circumstances in life that led him to create countless amazing works.

"Du Mu was born in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, in the 19th year of Emperor Dezong's Zhenyuan reign."

"The Jingzhao Du family is a noble family since the Wei and Jin dynasties, and their family history is very prominent."

"He is rare among poets of all ages. He is a noble family with generations of officials."

"His ancestors were once upper-class ruling figures. His 16th-generation ancestor Du Yu was the General of Zhennan in the Jin Dynasty."

"My great-grandfather Du Xiwang was a man of both civil and military talents, honest and self-disciplined, and was highly regarded by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, serving as the Minister of Rites."

"He was brave and good at fighting, beheading more than a thousand enemies and making the Tibetans fear him."

"Du Xiwang also had a particular love for literature, and the famous Tang Dynasty poet Cui Hao was his student."

"My grandfather Du You was the prime minister and was granted the title of Duke of Qi. He served under Emperor Dezong, Emperor Shunzong, and Emperor Xianzong."

"He held the position of prime minister for ten years and was a political figure with great influence in the middle Tang Dynasty."

"Du Mu's two uncles served as the Minister of Agriculture and the Governor of Guiguan respectively, and his father Du Congyu served as the Deputy Minister of the Imperial Guard."

"Du Mu's cousin Du Jing married Emperor Xianzong's beloved daughter Princess Qi Yang, and later became prime minister and was granted the title of Duke of Bing. He was a typical descendant of a noble family."

"In the seventh year of Yuanhe, Du Mu was 10 years old."

"In November of the same year, his grandfather passed away at the age of 78. He was awarded the title of Taifu and given the posthumous name Anjian."

"Originally his father was still an official, but the family situation was getting worse and worse."

"His family had more than 30 houses, which were owned by others because of debt repayment."

"The whole family moved several times and had no fixed place to live. The slaves in the family also ran away."

"In the second year of Emperor Muzong's Changqing reign, when Du Mu was 20 years old, he began to read the Book of Shang and the history books of thirteen dynasties."

"In the fourth year of Changqing, Emperor Muzong of Tang, Li Heng, died, and Crown Prince Li Zhan ascended the throne, becoming Emperor Jingzong of Tang."

"During the reign of Emperor Jingzong of Tang, there was a great deal of construction going on, and the palaces were magnificent."

"Du Mu, 23 years old at the time, wrote the palace prose "Fu on Afang Palace" to satirize and remonstrate."

"The opening of "Fu on Afang Palace" is magnificent and sharp, and extraordinary."

"Six kings are gone, the four seas are one, the mountains of Shu are steep, and Afang is out. These sentences also closely echo the ending sentence."

"It was the six states that destroyed them, not Qin; it was Qin that destroyed them, not the world."

“It turns out that rulers who do not love their people but only love extravagance cannot escape the fate of destruction.”

Su Shi: When I was young, I didn’t understand Du Mu’s sorrow, but when I understood him, I felt full of vicissitudes.

That year, Li Bai passed away with wine and the moon, and the great poet Du Fu also passed away many years later after experiencing the hardships of life.

It was also in that year that Du Mu, who was known as the Little Li Du together with Li Shangyin, was born in Chang'an of the Tang Dynasty.

If others were born with a silver spoon in their mouths, Du Mu was born with a purple robe and jade belt around his waist.

Du Mu was born into a powerful family, with ten prime ministers in his family.

If Du Mu was the chosen one in his reincarnation, then he was a koi in the world in his youth.

Every boy has a dream of joining the army, and so does Du Mu.

When Du Mu was still a young boy, the Tang Dynasty was in the period when Emperor Xianzong of Tang was fighting against the separatist regimes.

Therefore, Du Mu, who had his country and family in mind, studied "The Art of War" with great effort, and wrote thirteen annotations on "The Art of War" and many policy articles for this purpose.

The scholar Zhao Kuo only knew how to talk about military strategy on paper, but the military talent of Du Mu, who was also a scholar, was verified in practice.

Once, when he was young, Du Mu offered a plan to pacify the enemy. After it was adopted by Prime Minister Li Deyu, it turned out to be a great success, and Du Mu became famous because of it.

Compared with many literati who had no way to serve their country, Du Mu was fortunate to be able to display his military talents.

In addition to making Du Mu famous for his fu, "Fu on Afang Palace" also gave him an entry ticket into the officialdom of the Tang Dynasty.

Cui Yan, who was the Minister at the time, was ordered to go to the eastern capital Luoyang to serve as the chief examiner and preside over the Jinshi examination. All the civil and military officials held a farewell banquet for him.

Wu Wuling, a senior official of the dynasty, recited the "Fu on Afang Palace" on the spot and asked Cui Yan for the title of top scholar on behalf of Du Mu.

In this way, Du Mu passed the imperial examination and became a Jinshi with his "Fu on Afang Palace", successfully opening his door into the officialdom of the Tang Dynasty.

At that time, he was young and successful, and after passing the imperial examination, he went to Wengong Temple on the outskirts of Chang'an with his friends.

Since the monks in the temple did not recognize him, Du Mu wrote a poem to introduce himself and mock them.

The young prince passed the imperial examination and won the first prize. His talent and poetry were known throughout the world. He rode a horse from Luoyang to Chang'an.

The best opportunities come at the best age, and you have the brightest future you can imagine.

How could Du Mu not be dressed in fine clothes and riding a horse, and how could he not be full of joy and pride that year?

That year, he never thought that the big hand of fate would begin to attack him with endless hardships, frustrations, and missed opportunities.

If the first half of Du Mu's life was a smooth journey, then his love with Zhang Haohao was the first setback in his life which was always going well.

When Du Mu first met Zhang Haohao, he was working as an aide to Master Shen Chuanshi in Hongzhou.

That year Du Mu was 26 years old. He was a young and successful prince who had gone down from Kyoto to the countryside to gain experience.

That year Zhang Haohao was 13 years old. She was a singer with a lonely background but extraordinary talent.

Perhaps fate arranges the appearance of certain people not for the results, but just to amaze those years and make those years gentle.

The love of young people is like a raging fire that has nowhere to hide.

The love between Du Mu and Zhang Haohao made Shen Shushi, who was greedy for Zhang Haohao's beauty, anxious. He was the younger brother of Du Mu's superior Shen Chuanshi.

The angry Shen Shushi quickly took Zhang Haohao as his concubine. Thus the star-crossed couple were separated, and Du Mu missed his unforgettable first love.

When Zhang Haohao got married, she left a poem for Du Mu, which wrote: "The solitary lamp and the waning moon accompany my idle sorrow, and I feel sad for many years, and autumn has passed."

Du Mu also resolutely bid farewell to his sad place and went to Yangzhou.

But he still couldn't forget Zhang Haohao, so Du Mu wrote a poem to Zhang Haohao.

Ten miles in the spring breeze on Yangzhou Road, it's not as good as a bead curtain.

The often-quoted phrase "Ten miles of spring breeze is not as good as you" comes from this poem by the poet Du Mu, in which he bid farewell to his lover but could not forget him.

During his stay in Yangzhou, Du Mu often lingered in Qinlou and Chuguan.

Sleeping among the flowers and willows, I meet Xiaohong today and will make an appointment with Xiaocui tomorrow evening.

But the biggest characteristic of these girls is probably that they have some similarities with Zhang Haohao.

"But the rulers never understood this truth, so Du Mu sighed deeply."

"The people of Qin had no time to mourn themselves, but later generations mourned them. If later generations mourned them but did not learn from them, they would also cause later generations to mourn later generations."

"What he said couldn't be clearer. Jingzong should take this as a warning and not repeat the mistakes of his predecessors."

"In the first year of Emperor Wenzong's Dahe reign, Du Mu was 25 years old and his cousin Du Chong was appointed as an official in Lizhou."

"So he traveled to Lizhou and Chengcheng County of Tongzhou, during which time he wrote the prose "Records of the Generals of Yan."

"In the second year of the Yamato era, I took the imperial examination in Luoyang, the eastern capital."

"Du Mu was noticed by Wu Wuling, a doctor of the Imperial College who was famous for recommending talented people, because of his "Fu on Afang Palace"."

"So Wu Wuling recommended Du Mu to Cui Yan, the Minister of Rites, who was the chief examiner that year."

"In February of the same year, the imperial examination results were announced, and I ranked fifth among the successful candidates."

"In the third month of the same year, Du Mu went to Chang'an to take the examination for virtuous, upright and outspoken people."

"He passed the examination in the fourth place, and Emperor Wenzong of Tang, Li Ang, appointed him as the proofreader of the Hongwen Academy and the assistant general of the Left Guard."

"In the third year of the Yamato era, he served in the staff of Jiangxi Surveillance Commissioner Shen Chuanshi and was hired as a Jiangxi militia inspector."

"In September of the same year, Shen Chuanshi was appointed as the governor of Xuancheng, and Du Mu followed him to Xuancheng."

"The following year, he was asked by Shen Chuanshi's younger brother Shen Shushi to write a preface collection for the ancient poet Li He, "Preface to the Collection of Li He", and then he wrote the ancient poem "Presented to Mr. Shen and Zhang Geren"."

"In the seventh year of the Dahe era, Du Mu was invited by Huainan Jiedushi Niu Sengru to Yangzhou to serve as the Huainan Jiedushi Procurator, and soon became the Secretary."

"After Du Mu arrived in Yangzhou, he often visited brothels and wine shops at night."

"Niu Sengru was very concerned about Du Mu, so he was very worried about his behavior."

"But it was not easy to point it out directly, so we secretly sent soldiers to protect him."

"If Du Mu is safe, the soldiers will send back a report of his safety."

"In the ninth year of the Dahe era, Du Mu was promoted to the position of Censor-in-Chief and went to Beijing to take up his post."

"During this period, Emperor Wenzong of Tang was unwilling to be controlled by eunuchs."

"So he used Zheng Zhu and Li Xun to plot the execution of the eunuchs. Li Zhongmin and Li Gan were both good friends of Du Mu."

"First, Li Zhongmin was forced to retire and live in Luoyang because he wrote a letter to ask for the execution of Zheng Zhu."

Wang Anshi: Du Mu, the young master of Chang'an, lived a passionate life in a ruthless era.

One year, when Du Mu was visiting Huzhou, local officials held a banquet and a boat race to please Du Mu.

After a day of sightseeing, Du Mu remained unmoved by the sight of beautiful women in red and green.

Du Mu and Zhang Haohao once traveled to East Lake together to watch the autumn waves. They saw each other every day and missed each other when they were apart.

So until the afterglow of the setting sun, the autumn water in the lake was painted with bright colors.

Du Mu met a mother and daughter who were finishing their work by the lake. The girl was pretty and lovely, about ten years old.

Just like the thirteen-year-old Zhang Haohao when she first met Du Mu that year, Du Mu fell in love with her at first sight.

Du Mu regretted missing the opportunity with Zhang Haohao for the rest of his life, so he didn't want to miss it again this time.

Du Mu immediately proposed to the girl and promised to marry her within ten years. Du Mu was looking forward to the girl growing up and to his transfer to Huzhou.

However, due to the ups and downs of his official career, it took Du Mu fourteen years to realize his dream of being transferred to Huzhou.

But when Du Mu happily found the mother and daughter, he saw that the girl had already given birth and was holding three sons.

Du Mu met Zhang Haohao when he was young. From then on, he pursued Zhang Haohao for the rest of his life. Everyone he admired had the shadow of Zhang Haohao.

But whether it was Zhang Haohao or the girl who proposed to him at first sight, Du Mu's love throughout his life was filled with regrets and missed opportunities.

In addition to his emotional setbacks, Du Mu was also frustrated in his official career after the age of 33.

When Du Mu was 33 years old, the Ganlu Rebellion began.

It was a struggle between imperial power and eunuchs, involving countless court officials.

Although Du Mu was able to escape because he was transferred to Luoyang, most of his close friends and relatives were either exiled or punished, or died in the coup.

Du Mu also changed from a young man with a bright career to a cautious, taciturn and frustrated man.

The setbacks in his official career did not defeat Du Mu, but what made him most miserable was that his beloved younger brother, who suddenly suffered from an eye disease and became blind.

Because Du Mu was working as an official in another place and could not move around freely, he was separated from his brother, but he missed him day and night.

Later, Du Mu was overjoyed when he heard that there was a famous doctor in Tongzhou named Shi Gongji who treated eye diseases.

He would rather give up the opportunity to return to Beijing and resume his job than not treat his brother's eyes.

However, perhaps the good luck in the first half of his life had used up all his luck, and Du Mu was always surrounded by disappointment and setbacks in the second half of his life.

The opportunity to return to Beijing and resume his job was gone, and his brother's eye disease was not cured.

In addition to the Ganlu Incident, Du Mu's official career was also extremely bumpy due to the influence of the Niu-Li factional struggle.

Having had no way to serve his country, he looked back on his life and found that apart from his glorious career as a teenager, he had made no political achievements.

So looking back on his half of life, Du Mu wrote the "Sending Away My Feelings" which has been passed down through the ages.

Ten years passed in the blink of an eye, like a big dream. I indulged in sensual pleasures, but in the end I was known as a fickle man among the brothels.

How many ups and downs, separations and reunions, joys and sorrows, and separations must a gifted man with great ambitions have to experience before he could be so desperate.

Looking back on my half life, I can only say that I had a dream in Yangzhou for ten years, and earned the reputation of being fickle in the brothel.

The mountains are difficult to overcome, who feels sad for those who have lost their way?
When we meet by the water, we are all guests from other countries.

Just when Du Mu was already weathered and exhausted by life, he met his first love Zhang Haohao, who was no longer beautiful and had been abandoned by everyone.

Du Mu saw his first love, who was once famous in Jiangxi City and whom he had always dreamed of and kept carefully hidden in his heart, selling wine skillfully.

We don’t understand the nature of things when we are young, but only when we are full of vicissitudes of life will we understand that we are all afraid of seeing old friends.

I am not afraid that old friends will not recognize me, nor am I afraid that old friends will not be able to recognize me.

We have become silent and taciturn after being worn down by life, and have long lost the homesickness of the people we once were, who used to laugh and scold freely and do whatever they wanted.

Du Mu's official career had ups and downs and was not smooth.

In addition to the struggle within the imperial court, it was also related to the sudden coup.

It is also related to his noble character of caring about the country and the people and not wanting to be tainted by the secular world.

"At this time, Li Gan was demoted to Sima of Fengzhou because he opposed Zheng Zhu's appointment as prime minister. This made Du Mu feel indignant and fearful."

"So he used his illness as an excuse to be assigned to the Eastern Capital as an inspector."

"In the same year, Du Mu met Zhang Haohao in the east city of Luoyang, and felt nostalgic for the past, so he wrote the poem "Zhang Haohao"."

"In the fourth year of Kaicheng, Du Mu went to Beijing from Xuanzhou, taking the route of the Yangtze River, Han River, Nanyang, and Wuguan."

"He then went to the capital and took up the post of Zuo Buque and editor of the History Museum."

"In the fifth year of Kaicheng, he was transferred to the Ministry of Food and the Ministry of Comparison as a deputy minister."

"In the second year of Emperor Wuzong's Huichang reign, he was sent out again as the governor of Huangzhou."

"In the fourth year of Huichang, Du Mu was transferred to be the governor of Chizhou."

"The Qishan Mountain in the south of Chizhou is very beautiful. He invited his good friend, the poet Zhang Hu, to visit it together and wrote "Climbing the Qishan Mountain on the Ninth Day of the Ninth Month."

"Just after two years in office in Chizhou, Du Mu was transferred to be the governor of Muzhou."

"In the sixth year of Huichang, Du Mu was transferred to be the governor of Muzhou."

"He sailed east along the Yangtze River, passed through Runzhou, and composed the ancient poem "Two Poems on Runzhou."

"In the second year of Dazhong, Du Mu returned to Chang'an and served as the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Honors and the Editor of the History Museum."

"The following year, he was promoted to the position of Yuanwailang of the Ministry of Personnel, a relatively important position."

"But he requested to be sent to Huzhou as a governor, and he wrote to the prime minister three times, and finally got approval in the fourth year of Dazhong."

"Before leaving for Huzhou, he wrote "A Poem on Going to Wuxing to Visit Leyou Garden" to express his feelings."

"In the fifth year of Dazhong, Du Mu was 49 years old. His younger brother Du Ji died of illness, and his close friend Zhou also passed away."

"Du Mu was deeply saddened and wrote eulogies and epitaphs for them."

"That winter, he returned to Chang'an and was promoted to the position of Langzhong of the Ministry of Examination and Zhizhigao."

"Soon after, he was transferred to be a secretary of the Central Secretariat. He renovated Du You's Fanchuan villa in Dufan Township, south of Chang'an City."

"His rank was rising, but his health was getting worse."

"In November of the sixth year of Dazhong, he fell ill and wrote his own epitaph."

"One day he was drunk and told his nephew Pei Yanhan."

"I am old now. I have nothing to boast about in my life, but I have hundreds of articles that can be passed down to future generations."

"In the future, you will write a preface for me and title it "Fanchuan Collection."

"Du Mu died of illness in his residence in Anrenfang, Chang'an, at the age of fifty."

Xin Qiji: If we talk about how Du Mu was so romantic, his Qingming poems would rank first.

During the late Tang Dynasty, the emperor and powerful officials believed in Buddhism and built temples on a large scale.

During the late Tang Dynasty, the emperor loved beautiful women and indulged in pleasure, so Du Mu wrote poems to mock him.

After riding the red dust princess smiled, no one knew it was Litchi.

The colorful dance is played on thousands of peaks, and the dance breaks through the primitive state.

In order to persuade the ruling group not to indulge in pleasure and become corrupt and foolish, Du Mu wrote in his poem:

Business women do not know the hatred of subjugation, and they still sing backyard flowers across the river.

Du Mu's historical poems are sharp in tone and biting in words, and every sentence directly points out the stupidity and tyranny of the ruling group.

Therefore, when the talented young man Du Mu reached middle age, he was either idle and abandoned or on the way to being demoted.

Therefore, Du Mu, who had no way to serve his country and was not valued, wrote this with deep sorrow when he arrived at the ancient battlefield of Chibi.

The broken halberd, sand and iron have not been sold.

Dongfeng is not with Zhou Lang, Tongquechun locks Er Qiao deeply.

The young man's "Fu on Afang Palace" is known to the world. How could a man of extraordinary talent like Du Mu not be able to write a poem that flatters the rulers of the time?

Born into a wealthy family in Beijing and once exiled to the flowers, Du Mu would probably be a leader in having fun if he wanted to.

But he was unwilling to do so. He risked being hated and shunned by the ruling group, and turned his sharp words of concern for the country and the people into a sword that would strike directly into the hearts of the ruling group.

I hope they will come to their senses and return to the right path, restore the good old country, and bring back the prosperous Tang Dynasty to the people.

Because he is Du Mu, he is the descendant of the loyal and good Du family, one of the ten prime ministers, all of whom are heroes.

He is Du Shisan, who has been determined since childhood to establish his mind for heaven and earth, his mission for the people, to carry on the unique knowledge of the ancient sages, and to bring peace to the world for all generations.

From being successful at a young age to being vicissitudes of life in middle age, from being a playboy to missing out on love, from being a favored child of heaven to falling from a high platform.

From a playboy in brothels to a frustrated man who was concerned about his country and the people, Du Mu's life was full of twists and turns and drama.

So even though his poems were famous all over the world, even though he was demoted and far away from the center of power, he was still a high-ranking official.

Even though he mocked himself as a down-and-out scholar, he was still surrounded by beauties and red sleeves, but Du Mu was still depressed and frustrated.
He eventually died in Fanchuan Villa. That year Du Mu was only 49 years old.

The poet, a gifted man of destiny and a concerned poet for his country and his people, left quietly with reluctance to leave the people of the world and with the helplessness and vicissitudes of life that everything is determined by fate and is beyond human control.

Du Mu was a poet who single-handedly supported the poetry world of the late Tang Dynasty and wrote beautiful articles with just a stroke of his pen.

His epitaph contained only a few plain words, without mentioning any of his life's achievements.

From a young man in fine clothes and riding a vigorous horse to an old stranger with white beard before old age, Du Mu was dissatisfied with his life.

All his ambitions and ideals were never realized. He had countless beauties, but he always missed Zhang Haohao, who was more beautiful than any other woman.

After passing the imperial examination, Du Mu rode his horse from Luoyang to Chang'an. That year he was in high spirits and his life must have been as dazzling as spring.

After learning the news of Du Mu's death, Zhang Haohao rushed from Luoyang to Chang'an and eventually committed suicide in front of Du Mu's grave.

Just as the prosperous things are dispersing and chasing after the fragrant dust, the flowing water is merciless and the grass grows in spring.

At dusk, the east wind complains about the crying birds, and the falling flowers look like people falling from a building.

From a favored child of heaven to a fallen man, with nowhere to realize his ambitions and death from depression, Du Mu was extremely dissatisfied with his life.

However, future generations will judge right and wrong.

Just as Qin Shihuang's Afang Palace collapsed and fell with his second generation, Du Mu's profound philosophy of worrying about the country and the people in "Fu on Afang Palace" has truly lasted for thousands of generations.

Just like expressing grief during the Qingming Festival every year, everyone from the elderly to the youngest children will write a poem.

There are many rains in the Qingming season, and pedestrians on the road want to break their souls.

By asking where the restaurant is located, the shepherd boy pointed to Xinghua Village.

The spring breeze and bright moon of that year were unknown, but today the truth is clearly revealed in history. (End of this chapter)
