Because actually the molten metal droplets drip through the slag pool into the metal molten pool and cool down is a very complicated process.

The metal droplets are fully in contact with the high-temperature and high-alkalinity slag, resulting in a strong metallurgical chemical reaction, so that the metal is refined.

Therefore, the key technology of the electroslag remelting furnace is the slag system. The slag generally has a high resistivity and can generate enough heat during the smelting process to ensure the melting of the metal;

At the same time, it needs to have a certain alkalinity, so it has good deoxidation and desulfurization effects;

It must also have good fluidity to ensure that convective heat exchange and liquid physical and chemical reactions at high temperatures are fully carried out.

This technology is currently just an idea and a research and development direction for the metallurgical department. It is still unknown when it will be realized.
