Chapter 335-1 Watching the Snow Together
Chapter 335 Watching the Snow Together
After putting on the fur robe, Xia Qingdai felt warm all over instantly. She gently opened the door of the suite and walked towards the stairs.
Because of the lamp oil bestowed by God, there is almost no darkness at night in the Fucui Villa Castle. The corridors and stairs are always brightly lit, and all the oil lamps hanging on the wall will be lit.
Xia Qingdai stepped on the century-old stairs, and even in the dark, there was no sound of aging. The architect who built this castle did not cut corners at all.
The upper floor is a newly renovated attic, which is divided into many rooms. Except for the pointed roof, which can be seen as the shadow of the attic, everything else, from the floor height to the decoration, is similar to the rooms on the second floor. It even looks better because of the skylight.
Xia Qingdai pushed open the door of an attic room. She remembered that there was a fireplace inside. As expected, she saw the fireplace next to it as soon as she entered.
But the fire-making girl here had never come to light the fire, and the whole room was freezing cold.
Xia Qingdai lit the fireplace herself. Although it took some effort, she felt a great sense of accomplishment.
If there were no Xia Qingdai, people here would cut down oak trees in the oak forest and burn them in the winter.
But Xia Qingdai thought it was a waste to use such a good oak tree for firewood. So she bought BBQ wood directly from the modern world. She only needed to buy a few pieces and put them in the Lilliputian Kingdom, which would be enough for the whole villa to use for a whole winter.
Compared with the stingy gentry in other manors, Fucui Manor is very wealthy and even the servants' rooms have warm fireplaces.
Some of the lower servants' rooms did not have fireplaces, so the butler also prepared smokeless bamboo charcoal for them. There was a lot of smokeless bamboo charcoal piled up in the cellar of the castle. If they held a barbecue every day, it would probably take a year.
These were included in the servants' firewood expenses and were considered part of their wages.
After lighting the fireplace, Xia Qingdai sat directly on the wool blanket, took a large pillow and placed it behind her, leaning lazily on it and looking at the night sky outside the skylight.
After an unknown amount of time, Xia Qingdai heard familiar footsteps. It was Owen coming towards her.
"Hey, we seem to be in sync." Xia Qingdai smiled, "Is Owen also here to see the snow?"
As soon as she finished speaking, there was a knock on the door.
"Please come in."
The door opened and Owen, in his bathrobe, walked in with a pot of tea in his hand.
Xia Qingdai looked at the two teacups above and asked belatedly, "How did you know I was here? Did you hear me coming upstairs?"
Owen sat down next to her, placed the tray with the teapot and cups in the middle of the wool blanket, smiled faintly, and said, "I didn't hear it, but I guessed it."
"What a clever little kid." Xia Qingdai praised with a smile, then raised her hand to pour herself a cup of black tea.
She took a sip and said, "Do you also drink this kind of black tea without any seasoning now?"
Owen looked over with deep eyes and said in a low voice, "Well, it tastes sweet even without sugar."
He just wanted to be closer to the goddess, drink the tea she liked, see the snow she liked, and feel the wind she liked.
Although she didn't know anything, maybe she just treated herself as a...little pet.
But liking someone can be a feast for one person and does not require a response from the other person.
For a sophisticated 18th century gentleman, he had to dress neatly once he left his bedroom, and he could not be rude even to servants.
But it was late at night, and the servants' quarters had long been locked, so unless he rang the bell vigorously, there was no chance of meeting a servant upstairs.
As for Xia Qingdai, it was different. Owen had looked up at the goddess from the window in his pajamas countless times. Both sides were used to it and no one felt it was wrong. The two of them leaned on the huge cushions, each holding a cup of warm black tea, looking up at the falling snow outside the window. No one spoke, and they enjoyed the tranquility tacitly.
On such a quiet snowy night, Xia Qingdai's five senses and six consciousnesses were magnified, and she could even hear the sound of snow falling.
After a long time, a cup of tea was slowly finished.
Owen silently poured another glass for himself and Xia Qingdai and continued to remain quiet.
"Thank you." Xia Qingdai said softly, suddenly feeling the urge to chat.
"Is everything Mrs. Hans said today true? Is it really Mr. Hans you introduced?"
Owen lowered his eyes and said calmly, "Yeah."
"Why is that?" Xia Qingdai tilted her head and looked at Owen, "You don't seem like such a bored person."
Owen looked back at Xia Qingdai, a faint light flashing in his deep eyes, and he seemed to be hesitant to speak.
"What's wrong? Is there anything you can't say?" Xia Qingdai asked puzzled.
Owen retracted his gaze, looked out the window, and chuckled, "There is nothing I can't tell you."
After a pause, he continued, "I did do it on purpose, but I will not admit it to anyone except you, and I will not apologize to Mrs. Hans. This is the punishment she received for her stupidity, and she deserves it. No one can be so reckless."
Xia Qingdai was puzzled by what Owen meant: "Mrs. Hans, or Miss Anderson, what did she do to make you hate her so much?"
Owen looked into Xia Qingdai's eyes again and replied, "Do you remember the time when you went hunting with us and the horse got scared and you almost fell off?"
Xia Qingdai understood immediately. Although she had not experienced palace fighting or house fighting, she had seen a lot of it. She immediately asked, "You mean this was done by Mrs. Hans? How did she do it?"
"Oh! I remember now, that someone, the stableman's family on the farm, right?"
Owen nodded slightly in agreement.
Xia Qingdai suddenly recalled that after the incident of her scaring the horse, the family who fed the horses seemed to have been fired from the farm in the villa.
At first, she thought that Owen was just strict with his servants, but she didn't expect that they might have been bribed and committed the great taboo of betraying their master.
"Ms. Anderson's arms are really long!" Xia Qingdai was speechless, "But I don't think I have offended her."
Owen whispered, "Who knows? Some people don't need a reason to do evil. Maybe just a trivial thing can touch her nerves and make her do something crazy."
That being said, Owen actually knew exactly why Miss Anderson attacked Xia Qingdai.
It's just that some things are hard to say.
Maybe one day his goddess will find out by herself, after all, she is so smart; maybe... she will never find out.
Owen didn't feel sad about not getting a response, because the goddess had given him enough.
He didn't dare ask for more, as people should be content with what they have.
Greed is a sin and he must restrain it.
