Chapter 556 Execution

Chapter 556 Execution (Seeking monthly votes)

"Her name is Meng Shutong, she's our top courtesan. She's contracted venereal disease and was admitted to the hospital this afternoon, room 302. You can go and investigate under the guise of visiting her."

"Meng Shutong? Chinese?"

"Yes."

"That"

"What?" Liu Ying glanced at him sideways. "Does it matter who she is? She's a prostitute. Just go as her patron. She's entertained so many people, how could she remember who's who?" She sighed inwardly, "Osawa Kanjiro is such a smart man, how could he send such an idiot? He might ruin his own mission instead of completing it."

"Understood, thank you." Akisui Taro returned the envelope and photo, bowed, and turned to leave.

Liu Ying watched him until his figure disappeared through the doorway. She thought for a moment, then left the private room, called over a rather capable-looking woman, and whispered:
"Follow him secretly. If everything goes smoothly, you might as well help him. If your identity is exposed, to prevent him from falling into the hands of the Military Intelligence Bureau, you can take care of him directly."

"Yes."

After giving all the instructions, Liu Ying took out a handkerchief, took small steps, and greeted an old brothel owner with a big smile, as if nothing had happened.

Akisui Taro left the room and looked around. Then, he lowered his top hat, turned up his collar, put his hands in his pockets, and hurriedly left the brothel.

He walked quickly, and after walking several streets, he squatted down at the entrance of an alley, lit a cigarette, and seemed to be observing something.

As dusk fell, an elderly woman with gray hair and a cane walked along the sidewalk carrying a basket of vegetables on the bustling street.

Due to her age, her legs and feet are not very agile, so she walks very slowly.

Seeing this, an idea flashed through Akisui Taro's mind. He sneered, extinguished his cigarette, and quickly left the alley. He walked fast and hurriedly, and when he passed by the old lady, he suddenly stretched out his foot and hooked the old lady's cane.

"Ouch!" The old lady lost her balance and fell to the ground with a "thud".

Akisui Taro acted as if nothing had happened and quickly walked away without looking back.

He darted into an empty alley, quickly tossed aside his top hat, smoothed his hair, turned his coat inside out, and emerged from the alley again. His eyes darted around, and he saw the old woman still lying on the ground groaning, surrounded by a group of people talking amongst themselves. Akisui Taro composed himself, hurriedly squeezed in, and asked with feigned concern:
"Oh dear, what are you doing?"

"Some bastard tripped my wife just now."

“I saw it too. It was intentional; they ran that way.”

"Call the police! Catch that bastard!"

"Really? Is that so? Grandma, how are you feeling? Are your bones alright?" Akisui Taro asked without batting an eye.

The old lady was covered in sweat and lay weakly, too exhausted to even speak.

"I'll take you to the hospital." Seeing that the old lady couldn't speak, Akisui Taro thought for a moment, carefully picked her up, and then turned to look at the onlookers. "Help me call a rickshaw."

With everyone's help, Akisui Taro helped the old lady into a rickshaw and headed to the hospital.

The enthusiastic crowd was still immersed in the emotion of the good deed, and no one noticed that a woman was hiding in a corner not far away, quietly watching them.

Half an hour later, Akisui Taro finally carried the old lady to the hospital. He was exhausted and covered in sweat. He walked through the crowd, calling out to the doctors and nurses while secretly observing the people leaning or sitting on the benches in the lobby. In a quick glance, he noticed a man pacing at the door who was in plainclothes. Although the pistol on his waist was covered by his clothes, its shape could still be faintly seen when he turned around.

The moment the plainclothes officer turned around, Akisui Taro immediately lowered his head, as if he were concerned about the old lady in his arms, but in reality, he was keeping an eye on the plainclothes officer's every move.

Perhaps because she was too anxious, or perhaps because she was rushing around, and because she was calling for doctors and nurses loudly, the crowd spontaneously made way for them, and the doctors and nurses who rushed over took the old lady away.

But this prompted a burst of hurried footsteps.

Several people in plainclothes came down from the second floor one after another and asked the guards and doctors what had happened.

Akisui Taro's heart tightened. These people were all veteran agents, not only because of their presence, but also because of the competence and vigilance they exuded.

On high alert!

The mere presence of one patient has made them feel like they're facing a formidable enemy. If I'm alone, it'll be difficult to even get close. How can the plan possibly be implemented?
Throughout his career, he has faced countless life-threatening situations and hardships, yet Akisui Taro has never been discouraged or afraid. However, at this moment, amidst his initial shock, a sense of unease and fear has begun to arise.

He didn't dare linger and hurriedly left the hospital, quickly disappearing into the night.

Hearing the commotion on the first floor, the monkey was about to go down to investigate when he reached the stairwell and encountered several plainclothes officers from the action team heading upstairs. He stopped one of them and asked:

"What happened?"

"An elderly lady was tripped and injured; she was just brought here."

"Tripping? Intentional? Robbery?"

"It doesn't seem so. We asked, and the old lady still has her wallet. It shouldn't be a robbery."

The monkey was somewhat surprised: "Then what's his motive? Does he have a grudge against the old lady?"

"I don't know."

Who brought him here?

"It's said to be a passerby."

"What about people?"

"left already."

"Doing good deeds anonymously?" The monkey was even more surprised. If the murderer wasn't after money, why would they trip over an old lady? He found this rather intriguing.

He quickly returned to the ward and reported these unusual circumstances to Zhang Yi.

In the ward just one floor away, Zhang Yizheng, having finished his meal, was sitting in a chair reading the newspaper when he heard this and said, "It is a bit strange."

“Not only that,” the monkey continued, “I remember the Chief said that there are no coincidences in this world. All coincidences are the result of careful planning. I suspect that this might have been done by Japanese spies, who took advantage of bringing the old lady to the hospital to secretly investigate the situation.”

"So, according to you, the person who tripped the old lady and the person who brought him to the hospital were the same person or accomplices?"

The monkey nodded and said, "Yes, that's what I mean."

"They've resorted to all sorts of underhanded tactics; it seems our opponent is quite anxious." Zhang Yi pondered for a moment and said, "To nip it in the bud, let's find this gentleman who does good deeds anonymously and secretly monitor his every move. Remember: we must not alert him."

"Yes."

After giving his instructions, Zhang Yi glanced at his watch, pondered for a moment, then first ordered Qian Xiaosan to prepare the car, and then dialed Li Mulin's number:

"I am Zhang Yi. Immediately take Niu Zidao, Zhou Entai, and Xiao Rui to the outskirts. Yes, Xiao Rui too. Execute them all tonight. Also, remember to bring a forensic doctor and a cameraman."

At the Yuzhou Military Intelligence Station, Li Xianlin hung up the phone and quickly dialed a few numbers, calling the forensic department.

In the forensic department, Liu Wenbing sat at his desk, deep in thought, still pondering the task assigned to him by the organization.

He had only been a member of the organization for a year and had been in a state of dormancy.

He voluntarily stayed to work overtime tonight so that the task could be carried out smoothly.

Just then the phone rang. He answered it, and heard the person on the other end say:

"Wu the forensic doctor? It's me, Li Mulin. You need to bring your equipment and come with me on a field mission right away."

"Station Chief Li, this is Xiao Liu. The section chief has gone off duty."

"Xiao Liu?" "Liu Wenbing, I'm Wu's assistant."

Li Mulin hesitated for a moment, then said, "Then it's you. Come to my office right away."

"Yes."

Half an hour later, several cars drove one after another on the highway leading to the suburbs.

After Zhang Yi and Li Mulin met up, they got into the same car. Li Mulin told Zhang Yi some unexpected news—Liang Fu had committed suicide.

"Suicide?"

“Yes, after the people from the war zone questioned him, he became very depressed, refused to eat or drink, and committed suicide if the guards weren’t careful.” Li Mulin’s expression was somewhat awkward.

"How did you die?"

"Hang yourself!"

"Oh." Zhang Yi glanced at him and said nothing more. If the water is too clear, there will be no fish. Let Liang Fu die; it doesn't matter to the big picture.

Soon, the convoy arrived at the foot of a mountain. Several people got out of the car, and in the car behind, a group of agents dragged prisoners, who were bound hand and foot, wearing hoods and gagged, out of the car and escorted them to the foot of the mountain where they stood in a row at the foot of a bare mountain wall.

Zhang Yi and Li Mulin stood in front of the mound of yellow earth, with several fully armed execution agents standing at attention behind them.

Zhang Yi glanced at his watch: "Let's begin."

Li Mulin nodded and waved. The execution captain ran forward, took out a file bag, opened it, took out several photos, and, using the bright car headlights, went forward one by one to remove the hoods from the prisoners' heads to check their identities.

He quickly ran up to Zhang Yi and Li Mulin, stood at attention and saluted: "Director Zhang, Station Chief, I have verified their identities and confirmed that all prisoners are indeed themselves. Please give instructions."

"Photograph."

"Yes." The execution captain waved to the two men who were hiding far away.

One of them is a forensic doctor, and the other is a photographer.

The forensic doctor is responsible for checking if the prisoner has died, and the photographer is responsible for taking pictures; the process before and after the execution must be recorded.

This was also Zhang Yi's instruction. As the prison warden, he had to do things flawlessly in order to give Boss Dai an explanation.

Looking at the photographer, Zhang Yi said, "Come one by one, don't just shoot them all down at once. They've come all this way, it's not easy, and it's so sinister. Let them see how blood gushes out. As the saying goes, people on the verge of death always try to live. What if someone regrets it and wants to confess? We have to give them time, right? Untie their mouths."

Li Mulin had no objection and nodded to the execution team leader.

"Yes, sir." The execution captain saluted and turned to walk toward the prisoner.

As the rag that had been stuffing into his mouth was removed, Zhou Entai could no longer contain himself and burst into tears, saying:

"Director Zhang, Station Chief Li, I've confessed everything. My crime doesn't warrant death. I'm Chinese, please!"

"Baka!" Xiao Rui spat contemptuously at Zhou Entai, cursing, "Traitor, cowardly dog! The Empire will not let your family off the hook!" He then met Zhang Yi and the others' gazes without fear, and said:
"The victor is king, the loser is villain. Kill me or torture me, it's all up to you. I'll say it again: the agents of the Great Japanese Empire can never be completely wiped out."

Before he could finish speaking, the execution captain smashed a rifle butt into his face.

Zhang Yi walked over, glanced at him first, then looked at the silent Niu Zidao, and pulled out a gun, pointing it at his head:

"Captain Niu, don't you have anything to say?"

Niu Zidao smiled contemptuously, showing no fear whatsoever. Instead, he puffed out his chest and sneered, "I only want to die, so shoot!"

Zhang Yi glanced at him, said nothing more, and pointed at Zhou Entai:

"Start with him."

"Yes." The execution captain waved his hand, and two agents came up, grabbed Zhou Entai, who was kowtowing and begging for mercy, and pulled him aside like an eagle snatching a chick, and pulled the trigger on the back of his head.

"Bang!" A crisp gunshot echoed through the mountains and fields, and Zhou Entai fell to the ground, his brains splattering out.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" Zhang Yi turned the gun and pressed it against the back of Xiao Rui's head.

Xiao Rui sneered: "Should I say 'Long live the Imperial Japanese Army'?"

Zhang Yi also gave a cold laugh and pulled the trigger.

Xiao Rui gritted his teeth and closed his eyes.

With a "click," the firing pin made a hollow sound; there was no bullet in the gun.

Even though Xiao Rui was "death-defying," he couldn't help but go limp and collapse to the ground, panting heavily.

Zhang Yi gave a mocking smile and turned to ask Li Mulin, "Deputy Station Chief Li, do you know what the most terrifying thing is?"

Li Mulin and the execution captain looked at him but did not say anything.

"The time spent waiting for death? No, death ends everything, leaving nothing behind. Of course, having nothing is not terrible; what is terrible is gaining something and then losing it."

As he spoke, he waved his hand and had Xiao Rui taken away. Today, he was just letting this guy go through the gates of hell and suffer some torment to slowly break down his mental defenses.

"bang, bang"

Two more shots rang out; this was a follow-up shot.

There's a saying: "Two shots to the chest and one to the head, even a god would shake his head."

"Reporting to the commander, Zhou Entai is dead."

Finally, only Niu Zidao remained.

As the secret agents forced Niu Zidao to his knees, the execution captain walked behind him with a pistol, pointing it at the back of his head. Zhang Yi called out to him, "Wait a minute!"

Not only the execution captain, but even Li Mulin looked at him with suspicion.

Zhang Yi sighed and said, "To be honest, I admire Captain Niu quite a bit, but there's nothing I can do. He's not on our side, so we can't be lenient with dissidents." He paused, then changed the subject, "Of course, even though he's not one of us, he is an anti-Japanese hero. Heroes have a way of dying, so we should give him some dignity and leave him with a whole body."

Li Mulin echoed, "That's true, after all, we were colleagues." He then walked over and patted Niu Zidao on the shoulder. "Captain Niu, don't you really want to say something?"

Niu Zidao gave a disdainful sneer.

Li Mulin helplessly shrugged.

Zhang Yi understood, took out a magazine from his pocket, cocked it deftly, walked up to Niu Zidao, and fired a shot into his chest, causing blood to gush out.

Li Mulin turned on his flashlight, took a look, nodded, and called over the forensic doctor, Xiao Liu, who was waiting nearby.

Forensic doctor Xiao Liu stepped forward, checked the pulse, then checked the breathing, and glanced at his watch: "20:21 PM, the prisoner is confirmed dead."

After he finished his inspection, the photographer went up to take pictures.

After everything was over, everyone got into the car and returned home.

Not long after the convoy left, Zheng Huhe and a few others quietly appeared. A man wearing glasses took out a stethoscope, listened for a moment, and said happily, "He's still alive! That's great!"
