Chapter 1333. The Crimson Farm (6)

Old Chen put the diary into his backpack, and as his fingertips traced the yellowed pages, he still felt a lingering sense of unease.

"This boss is absolutely insane. He uses living people to grow trees and even uses puppets to guard them. This is no farm; it's hell on earth."

“There shouldn’t be anything else here. Let’s check the next room. This building looks like it has quite a few floors. Besides the offices and dormitories on the first floor, there might be more clues upstairs.”

As soon as Wen Yang finished speaking, they heard Zhang Yutong's soft exclamation from behind, and everyone immediately turned to look.

Zhang Yutong was squatting at the foot of the bed, pointing with his fingertip at an inconspicuous crack in the ground.

"Look here, it looks like something is seeping out."

The crowd gathered around, and by the light of Wen Yang's flashlight, they saw a thin, bluish-gray liquid slowly seeping from the crack. It was exactly the same liquid as the one from the puppet's joint wounds, and it also had a faint putrid smell.

"Is it the puppet's bodily fluids?" Xiaoyu instinctively took a half step back, her voice trembling. "Could there be other puppets in this building?"

Lin Xi squatted down and gently touched the liquid with her fingertips. The icy touch made her immediately pull her hand back.

"The liquid hasn't completely solidified yet, which means the puppet that left this mark hasn't been gone for long. Moreover, the liquid is flowing outwards, so it must have come from the depths of the corridor."

She stood up.

"Everyone, grab your weapons and keep quiet. Let's follow the trail of liquid; maybe we'll find the golem's lair, or more clues about the seed's origin."

Wen Yang was the first to walk out of the dormitory. The beam of his flashlight swept across the corridor, illuminating the dust and scattered debris on the floor.

Most of the room doors on both sides of the corridor were ajar, some were rotten and deformed, and made a creaking sound with the slightest touch, which sounded particularly jarring in the quiet building.

The bluish-gray liquid left a winding trail on the corridor floor, extending all the way to the stairwell at the end of the corridor.

The group followed the tracks slowly forward, taking each step with utmost care.

As Lin Xi passed a half-closed room, she paused. She vaguely heard a faint rustling sound coming from inside, as if something was rubbing against the floor.

"What's wrong?" Yu Chen noticed her unusual behavior and whispered in her ear.

"There's movement inside." Lin Xi gestured towards the room with her eyes. "Should we go in and take a look?"

Wen Yang turned around, made a "shh" gesture to the person behind him, then slowly approached the door, gently pried open a crack with his dagger, and looked inside.

The room was a mess, with old tables, chairs and documents scattered around, and several bags of moldy grain piled in the corner.

In the center of the room, three puppets were squatting on the ground with their backs to the door, seemingly gnawing on something, making a "crunching" sound. The "rustling" sound was produced by the friction of their joints.

Wen Yang's expression changed, and he slowly retreated, lowering his voice.

"There are three puppets inside, eating something. Should we go around them?"

Old Chen gripped the metal baton tightly in his hand.

“Going around might alert them. Why don’t we sneak back when they’re not looking and go up the stairs on the other side? This building should have more than one stairwell.”

Lin Xi nodded and was about to signal everyone to step back when he heard someone behind him slip and accidentally step on a loose wooden plank, making a crisp "crack" sound.

The sound was like a thunderclap in the silent corridor, instantly attracting the attention of the puppets in the room.

"Damn it!" Yu Chen shouted. "Prepare for battle!"

The puppets in the room turned around instantly. Their eyes had no pupils, only a murky bluish-gray color, and dark red mucus clung to the corners of their mouths, clearly indicating that they had just been gnawing on some kind of bloody, mangled thing.

They were probably too focused on gnawing to smell everyone's scent. They let out a low growl and pounced towards the door.

Wen Yang immediately raised his military dagger and faced the puppet at the front.

The puppet's movements were stiff but extremely powerful; when it slapped down with a claw, it created a whistling sound.

Wen Yang dodged to the side, and his dagger slashed towards the puppet's joint. With a "hiss," a bluish-gray liquid gushed out. The puppet paused for a moment, but did not fall. Instead, it lunged forward even more frantically.

"Their joints are weak points, but not easily fatal!" Wen Yang shouted as he dodged the puppet's attacks. "We still need to attack their heads!"

Old Chen rushed up as well, smashing his metal baton hard against the head of another puppet. With a muffled thud, a dent appeared in the puppet's head, and a bluish-gray liquid flowed out from the dent. It shook its head and was still able to move.

"This thing is too sturdy!" Old Chen cursed, and had to raise his baton again to defend himself.

Yu Chen used her short crossbow to shoot at the eye of the third puppet.

Lin Xi's throwing knife flew towards the other eye of the same puppet.

Although the puppet's eyes were empty, they still felt pain, and it quickly covered them with both hands.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Zhang Yutong rushed over and smashed the hammer in his hand hard against the puppet's head.

The puppet collapsed to the ground without even struggling.

"Props?" Lin Xi asked.

Zhang Yutong nodded.

An ordinary hammer certainly wouldn't be able to kill the puppet.

—It seems like everyone used props.

—Maybe ordinary weapons won't work!
Fortunately, the use of other props was not prohibited.

—If all items are banned, the whole team will probably be wiped out.

Don't worry, with 123 and Teacher Huang around, we won't be wiped out.

—Yeah, we can always go to another instance!
—Not necessarily, what if they ban skills too!

Holding a broken table leg, Xiaoyu took advantage of a moment when a puppet was entangled by Wen Yang and smashed it hard against its knee joint.

The puppet's knees buckled, and it knelt on the ground.

Wen Yang seized the opportunity and plunged the dagger into the puppet's head. This time, the puppet finally stopped moving and fell straight down, its body gradually becoming cold and stiff.

At this moment, only the last puppet remained. Seeing its companions fall one after another, it became even more ferocious and pounced on Wen Yang and Lao Chen.

"careful!"

Huang Jingjing threw a stone in her hand, which hit the puppet right in the eye.

The puppet paused for a moment. Although its eyes seemed to have no effect on it, the sudden attack still interfered with its judgment.

Wen Yang and Lao Chen exchanged a glance and launched their attack simultaneously.

Wen Yang used a dagger to restrain the puppet's arm, while Lao Chen raised a metal baton and smashed it down on the puppet's head with all his might.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" After three consecutive heavy blows, the puppet's head was completely smashed flat, and bluish-gray liquid flowed all over the ground. It finally collapsed and never moved again.
