Chapter 123 [129] All-Star (XI) I'm a Substitute
Inside the bustling All-Star Weekend arena, Tang Rou's victory illuminated every corner like daylight. The cheers and shouts of the neutral audience were deafening, while the curses of the All-Star fans rose and fell, all angrily condemning Du Ming's defeat. A highly anticipated e-sports competition was being held here, featuring a globally popular competitive game. At this moment, Tang Rou, a girl who had only been playing Glory for less than a month, became the protagonist of the event. Her victory over a professional player was unbelievable to the audience, who questioned whether Du Ming had obviously thrown the game. But only Du Ming was bitter inside. He hadn't thrown the game at all. The girl's operation was fast and accurate, her combos were equally fast and stable, and she seemed very experienced. Considering she had only been playing for less than a month, Du Ming concluded that she must have had a master coaching her.
Du Ming, a young and passionate esports player, sat in his competition seat, his eyes glued to the screen, fine beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He had just experienced a fierce battle, but the result was disappointing; he had lost. Fans eager to see their favorite team's player shine were furious, while neutral viewers cheered and applauded. They weren't die-hard fans; they enjoyed the spectacle, and Du Ming had pulled off a major upset, so they readily clapped.
The moment the match ended, the atmosphere froze. The cheers of the Samsara fans abruptly ceased, replaced by silence and applause from a few Glory fans. Du Ming's opponent, unlike most players who would excitedly wave their hands in celebration, calmly retreated to the preparation screen. Du Ming, however, sat frozen in place, his eyes filled with resentment and disappointment. He clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning white from the force.
"No, this is impossible! How could I lose!" Du Ming roared inwardly, unable to accept the result. He had poured a lot of energy and effort into this match, practicing every move day and night. He thought he could win, even though defeating the audience is as natural as eating and drinking for a professional player. However, fate played a cruel joke on him.
He slowly stood up, his steps slightly unsteady. The surrounding audience began to whisper amongst themselves, some with expressions of regret, others murmuring amongst themselves. Du Ming took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He glanced at the competition platform opposite Tang Rou, a determined glint in his eyes.
"One more round!" Du Ming's voice was a little hoarse, but full of power. The emcee looked in his direction with some surprise, and the surrounding audience was also attracted by his words, casting curious glances at him.
"Du Ming, that's how the competition is, one round decides the winner." The emcee quickly turned off the microphone and ran over to Du Ming, saying helplessly.
"No, I'm not reconciled! I believe I can win back!" Du Ming shouted, his eyes revealing a determination and stubbornness.
When the audience saw the emcee running towards Du Ming's stage, the atmosphere suddenly became complicated. The audience began to discuss among themselves. Only the die-hard fans of Samsara cheered for Du Ming's persistence. Tang Rou, being a combative person herself, naturally wouldn't refuse when she heard that she could fight again. She decisively clicked "ready" and waited for the match to begin.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Du Ming stood there resolutely, awaiting the decision of the higher-ups at Samsara. He knew this was more than just a competition.
Soon, the higher-ups of Samsara responded and agreed to let Du Ming fight again. The match began, and Du Ming lived up to his reputation as a professional player. He fought Tang Rou nine times and won six times, but also lost four times, the first one and the last three.
Just as Du Ming invited Tang Rou to play a tenth match, a man's voice came through the loudspeaker: "Why don't you let me give it a try?"
"Who are you?" Du Ming asked, bewildered.
"The main player is tired, I'm the substitute!" It was Ye Xiu who spoke. Lin Xichen stood to the side, rubbing Tang Rou's hands. Tang Rou had been using her explosive hand speed for so long, and if she didn't treat it quickly, she could easily get injured.
