The Best Actor in the Vase of Meiyu
Chapter 1427: Scripts Gathered
Chapter 1427: Scripts Gathered
Neither hurried nor slow, neither fast nor slow, but with clear eyes and a sense of certainty.
Lucas couldn't help but nod slightly at the state Anson showed before him.
This is a good thing. It seems that Anson’s words of comfort to Charles and Nora were not lies. Maybe he needs some time, but things are indeed getting better.
Lucas: "Okay."
Anson raised his eyebrows slightly in surprise, "Okay? That's it?"
Lucas, “There’s always the next project, there’s always the next role, there’s no need to rush.”
Anson smiled widely. "Indeed, there are a lot of them here."
I patted the thick pile of projects in front of me. This is still a daunting task. It is not easy to just go through all these projects quickly.
One thing is for sure, Anson is indeed the hottest star.
This is not only reflected in the attitude of Warner Bros., but also in the attitude of other film companies and paper men. Wall Street capital is indeed leaning towards Anson, so the projects appearing in front of Anson are dazzling.
There are some interesting findings.
Action movies like "Glengarry Glen Ross" and "The Man with the Iron Fist" seem to have accidentally discovered Anson's potential. He is young and handsome, and it is a pity to limit his role to Peter Parker, a character who relies on green screen computer special effects. Just as his name appeared in the rumors about the new 007, it is a natural development direction for Anson to lead action movies.
The difference is that the former is an action comedy, while the latter is a boxing biography.
In a way, this is a good thing.
The success and explosion of Anson's three consecutive works are indeed changing Hollywood's perspective. Whether it is comedy or biography, they no longer regard Anson as a vase, which means that Anson is indeed opening up more possibilities for actors.
Unfortunately, both works had limited appeal to Anson.
The situation of "Mr. Fairchild" is very similar to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". It also uses children as the narrative theme, but the focus is on adult actors.
This movie tells the story of a special forces soldier who receives a special mission and pretends to be a nanny to protect five children. From the setting, we can see the creative intention of the main creative team. This is a story tailored for the actor's "transformation".
In his previous life, Vin Diesel played the leading role, hoping to change his fixed routine as an action actor - seeking a breakthrough from comedy; later, the same thing happened to Dwayne Johnson, who wanted to start with comedy when the action actor tried to break through the shackles.
Of course, the same goes for idol vases. What could be more suitable than a comedy movie to break the image transformation track?
Now, the script has come into Anson's hands because they believe that this is also Anson's opportunity to further refine Anson's possibilities in the comedy genes of "Cat and Mouse Game" and "The Warmth of the Heart".
However, the quality of the project itself is mediocre.
Because the creative concept itself is focused on showing different characteristics of the actors, such a starting point may often lead to deviations in the focus and arc of character creation.
In fact, the previous life of "The Wonder Years" performed well at the box office, with an investment of 56 million US dollars and a box office of 198 million US dollars worldwide.
But Vin Diesel still failed to transform successfully and had to return to the "Fast and Furious" series and was forever tied to this series.
"The Man with the Iron Fist" is another case. The film is a typical award season biographical essay, aiming for the Oscars from the beginning.
The director is Ron Howard, who recently won the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director for the biographical film "A Beautiful Mind", and is now preparing to copy and paste the second film. Such a proposition is not easy to make mistakes, but it is also not easy to stand out. Being too eager for an Oscar may lose its own edges, giving the director and actors relatively limited room to play; on the contrary, the music, costumes, art and other departments can freely display their talents in the project.
For Anson, the appeal is really limited——
"Walk with the Song" seems to be an Oscar-nominated essay, but in fact the creative method advocated by the "Two James" is to break the traditional biographical template. It revolves around music and live performances, and runs through Johnny Cash's entire life struggles and pains. The performance and presentation methods are quite different.
Just turn around and return to traditional essay writing?
Anson's obsession with the Oscar statuette is not that strong.
Perhaps at another time, the project would be more appealing; at least right now, Anson had no interest in even flipping through the script.
"Pride and Prejudice" is another surprise. Mr. Darcy in the original story has become a classic image, and the character played by Colin-Firth in 1995 is still widely circulated many years later.
The film that is being remade now should be the version starring Keira Knightley, and this version of Mr. Darcy will be played by Matthew-Macfadyen.
Although the film won four Oscar nominations including Best Actress the following year, Matthew MacFadyen was not able to make a breakthrough with this role. It was not until fifteen years later that he gained attention for his role as a cowardly, powerful, cunning and weak son-in-law in the TV series "Succession".
However, what really surprised Anson was that this work, which was full of artistic atmosphere and posed many challenges and requirements to the actors, actually included him in the consideration list.
Of course, the key reason is that the production company is the familiar Focus Features.
The pleasant experience of the last cooperation undoubtedly left a deep impression on Focus Features, so this time, even a work like "Pride and Prejudice" was willing to extend an olive branch to Anson.
In fact, it was Focus Features that was worried that Anson wasn't interested in the role.
After all, Mr. Darcy is a classic image, but the protagonists of "Pride and Prejudice" are still the four daughters. They also know that after Anson has broken his vase image with a series of works, he must be looking forward to a breakthrough in his career.
Why is the Oscar statuette so popular in Hollywood?
In addition to the fact that this is an important honor recognized by the industry, the Oscar trophy can break free from shackles, increase one's value, and take one's career to the next level.
The same is true for Anson now.
Unless Focus Features can convince Anson that the role of Mr. Darcy could earn him an Oscar nomination, there's really no need for Anson to take on the script.
However, Focus Features handed over the script anyway.
Who knows, maybe Anson will suddenly become interested in this project?
Unfortunately… no.
Objectively speaking, this version of "Pride and Prejudice" has its own characteristics. It is adapted from the original work and gives the two protagonists more room to play. More importantly, director Joe Wright's beautiful shots give the film a unique literary atmosphere.
The elegant and restrained British temperament will undoubtedly be the best choice for Anson's 180-degree turn, which is completely surprising.
But why wasn't Anson interested?
