The Best Actor in the Vase of Meiyu

Chapter 1828 Random thoughts

Holding his phone, Anson left the campfire and headed towards the house.

"Hey?"

Hello?

"Is anyone here?"

The call was connected, but there was no sound on the other end. Anson looked at the receiver and then at his surroundings. Was the signal bad?

In the remote mountain valley, it was perfectly normal to not receive a signal. Anson was wondering whether he should hang up and call back when suddenly an extremely loud noise came from the other end of the phone. The booming and clanging sounds of a live rock band burst through the phone.

hum.

Anson felt a jolt in his eardrums and instinctively took the phone away from the receiver. Even from a distance, he could still feel the buzzing sound from the other end of the receiver.

The next second, a burst of cheerful laughter rang out, "Haha, hahaha!" "Surprise!"

Anson looked slightly helpless, then chuckled, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Thank you for the surprise. Wait, I need to get a new ear, because one of my ears has already lost its function."

"Hahaha." The laughter on the other end of the phone became even brighter and more cheerful. "Oh, sorry. So, do you need me to bombard this ear too? I heard that the cochlea is responsible for maintaining body balance, and now one ear is constantly ringing. To maintain balance, shouldn't we bombard both sides?"

puff.

Anson's smile widened. "Are you in New York or Los Angeles now? If you're in New York, you might want to be prepared for the police to come knocking, your neighbors should be ready to complain about the noise, and the lady upstairs is best at getting the NYPD to come knocking."

"She should be very disappointed that she never had a chance to complain about me. Now that she's finally given a chance, she'll probably be grateful." Laughter continued on the other end of the phone, as Anson joined in the banter. "And, as far as I know, she's a huge... a huge fan of an actor named Anson Wood..."

“Oh. I see. How about we reserve the opportunity to file a complaint today, and when I return to New York next time, give that lady a real surprise experience? Let’s throw a party together, turn the whole apartment building upside down, and let them see what a Hollywood party is like, not just Anson and Annie.”

"God! Your idea for this prank came out of nowhere! No wonder everyone says not to mess with Anson Wood. But she might be disappointed; I don't think any other Hollywood actors mean anything to her except Anson Wood, let alone little Anne Hathaway."

The person on the other end of the phone was Anne Hathaway.

To start, a little prank was played: the stereo in the apartment was turned on and a live rock band album was played. The phone's earpiece was deliberately placed next to the stereo, and the deafening instrumental performance created shockwaves that continuously bombarded Anson's ears, giving him a big fright.

However, behind the extremely cheerful laughter, Anson noticed a hint of bitterness and loss.

Anson was a little unsure, because the bonfire party behind him was really lively, with a continuous and loud commotion, so he asked anyway.

"Annie, what happened? You sound a little down."

Before Annie could speak, a burst of laughter and shouts erupted from behind, "Anson! Anson! Are you sneaking off ahead of time?"

Anson turned around and gestured to his phone, indicating that he was on a call.

"Roar! The phone has escaped!"

"Could it be a call from my date?"

"Anson! Anson! Anson!"

The commotion and shouting rose and fell, breaking through the telephone receiver and reaching the other end, tinging the air with an orange hue.

Anne chuckled. "Are you having a party? Ah, looks like I chose the wrong time. That prank didn't have any impact at all, did it?"

Anson ignored the noise behind him. "A small party. We encountered some difficulties during filming today. We almost thought we had wasted the whole day..." Anson could tell that Annie was consciously avoiding his question. Since Annie didn't want to talk about it, Anson didn't press her further. Instead, he chatted idly about what had happened that day: his scenes with Michael Caine, his discussions with Scarlett Johansson, and his working relationship with Emmanuel.

The mundane, boring, and tedious daily routines of the film crew filled the gaps in the conversation at a leisurely pace. When Anson realized it, he was the only one talking. Annie, on the other end of the phone, entered Anson's world, awakening memories of when they worked together on "The Princess Diaries".

However, Anne noticed—

Scarlett. Scarlett. Still Scarlett.

Anson's words were inadvertently filled with Scarlett O'Hara, and even if you tried to ignore them, you could still catch the same name again in the following sentences.

Jealousy? Envy? Anxiety?

Anne took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, telling herself that everything was normal and she didn't need to overthink things. Anson was just doing his job, and if they were to become suspicious of each other because of the work of their fellow actors, they might as well quit their jobs.

Anson is the same, and so is she. They are familiar with the working conditions of actors and should not make a fuss about such things like outsiders.

Despite the logic, Annie's mood still sank. Holding her phone, she hugged her knees, curled up on the sofa, and quietly listened to Anson's voice.

Even Anson on the other end of the phone noticed, "Annie, you're unusually quiet today. Although I know you're a quiet girl with the demeanor of a princess, this quietness is still a bit unusual."

It's a joke, obviously. Just like Mia in "The Princess Diaries," Anne and Wenjing have no relation whatsoever.

With one sentence, he successfully amused Annie: "How about it, were you shocked? Didn't expect me to change so much, did you?"

With a lighthearted remark, Annie snapped out of her turbulent thoughts, extinguished those wild ideas, and regained her smile. "It's just... just a little disappointing."

Anson noticed, "I'm here."

Anne gained some courage, "but I was rejected at the audition again. They said I was too pretty and they needed to find an ordinary girl."

Anson: "Damn God, we all know that's a damn lie."

Annie tilted her head slightly. "Are you saying I'm not pretty?"

Anson: "Uh, I misspoke."

To her surprise, he admitted it just like that. Annie didn't expect it and burst out laughing.

Anson then added, "What I mean is, they're looking for an ordinary girl. That's obviously a lie."

Annie still had a smile on her lips, but a hint of disappointment and bitterness crept into her eyes. "Yes, I know, they can always find an excuse."

Anson nodded slightly. "Yes, casting directors have their own set of rhetoric."

“‘The performance was great, everything was excellent, but we are looking for taller actors.’ ‘Oh, I can be taller.’ ‘No, no, no, you don’t understand me. We need shorter actors.’ ‘Wow, that would be perfect. I have height-increasing insoles in my shoes. I can become shorter.’”

“'No, actually we're looking for younger actors.' 'Younger? You mean minors?'”

The actors take turns playing two roles, each portraying the character vividly and realistically.

Anne could no longer contain herself and burst into joyful laughter.
