The Best Actor in the Vase of Meiyu
Chapter 1849 Helpless
Chapter 1849 Helpless
The air seemed to pause slightly.
Anne looked up at Scarlett, only to find that Scarlett was also looking up at her. Their eyes met briefly before pausing.
Anne herself didn't notice that she held her breath and looked at that face, which was still charming and lovely even without makeup, and shone brightly as it stood quietly. She felt so small, so small that she wished she could disappear on the spot. She didn't even dare to look up and down at her own disheveled and embarrassed state.
She had to use all her strength to barely control her urge to turn around and run away.
In that brief moment of blankness, embarrassment and panic instantly surged.
Anne realized she had to speak, but she hesitated. Scarlett smiled and said, "Sorry, look at my manners."
Scarlett took a half step forward first and politely extended her right hand, "Scarlett Johansson."
Anne quickly flashed a big smile and extended her right hand, only to find that her thumb and forefinger were covered in cream. This made Anne look a little embarrassed, and she withdrew her right hand. "Anne Hathaway."
Scarlett gently raised her chin. "Oh, the famous Anne Hathaway."
Anne looked slightly embarrassed and at a loss, holding her breath but not knowing how to respond.
Think. Anne, think. Be witty, be humorous, be funny, whatever it may be, give a response.
Scarlett noticed the slow response. "Oh, sorry, no, just a little joke. I wasn't talking about the movies, but about Anson. I've heard Anson mention you."
Anson turned his head to look at him. "Me? Did I?"
Scarlett: "Of course. Haven't you noticed at all? 'Oh, Anne would like this,' 'Yes, Anne recommended this book to me last time,' 'Anne should really see the scenery here,' you always mention Anne, please, the whole crew knows."
Anson tried to recall earnestly, but had absolutely no recollection of it.
Annie couldn't help but look at Anson, feeling a mix of excitement and joy. She then glanced at Scarlett, noticing the many topics and stories they shared. Their familiarity and intimacy inadvertently pushed others aside, establishing a tacit understanding between them.
Scarlett ignored Anson, and it was immediately clear that Anson was completely baffled.
Scarlett looked at Anne again. "It's a pleasure to meet you. So, are you Anson's girlfriend?"
Annie's cheeks instantly flushed, a little shy, a little reserved, a little nervous. "I guess I am, I am the legendary girlfriend."
A simple joke completely lightened the mood.
Scarlett looked Annie up and down, her gaze finally settling on Annie's beautiful face. She paused slightly, but then found her train of thought. "So, a surprise, right?"
Anne looked herself up and down, looking slightly embarrassed. "Yes, it's my birthday. I was thinking that maybe I should fly to London to surprise Anson."
“But now it seems…” Anne looked at Anson again, her eyes flickering slightly, revealing a hint of uncertainty.
Scarlett chuckled and patted Anson on the shoulder. "We had absolutely no idea."
Anson shrugged. "I forgot myself. Really, I swear, I had no idea it was today."
Annie felt her mouth was dry and she couldn't tell what her emotions were. If Anson didn't remember her birthday, did that mean he didn't remember her either? But if Anson didn't remember his own birthday, was it also perfectly normal for him not to remember other people's birthdays, and that she didn't need to care?
No, no, no, I can't let my mind wander.
It's a black hole; if you go deep into it, you might open a Pandora's box.
Scarlett's voice came through, and Annie forcibly cut off her thoughts, pulled her attention back, and looked over.
"Sorry, we were a little late today because we were discussing tomorrow's scene."
"Obviously, this is a surprise party, and I should leave the space to you. Truly intelligent people know how to read the atmosphere."
Anne waved her hands repeatedly, "No, no, no, don't worry, please stay. A party is more fun with more people." Scarlett chuckled, "I was just joking, don't worry about it."
"I'm serious, I need to go home and rest."
"Originally, this workaholic wanted to explore the character's background, which was exactly what I needed to learn from. Without a doubt, he is an excellent actor, and even though I don't want to work overtime at all, I can't deny that. But now, it's perfect, I can end my overtime early."
Anne's eyes widened, a pang of guilt rising within her. She worried that her surprise party might cause trouble. "But... what about the work? What if you're all busy with this filming..."
Scarlett, "Shh."
She placed her finger on her lips. "Please give me an excuse to leave work, otherwise I have no way to protest, after all, this guy is a producer."
He was at ease and chatted with ease.
Scarlett displayed her social skills, then turned to Anson, "Mr. Producer, I think we can discuss this further when we meet on set tomorrow morning?"
"Now, even someone as workaholic as you should take a break."
Scarlett patted Anson's shoulder gently and looked at Anne again. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Anne."
Anne gathered her thoughts and prepared to respond.
However, Scarlett did not wait; she turned around, strode out, and walked straight away.
Scarlett herself didn't realize that she was walking faster and faster until she stood at the elevator door, at which point she realized that her footsteps betrayed her inner panic.
A complex and bitter feeling surged up, instantly destroying all her defenses. Even she herself couldn't distinguish the emotions that rushed over her.
It felt like a fist slamming into the bridge of the nose.
But why?
Everything is normal, everything is as it should be, isn't it? There's nothing between her and him, so where did this feeling come from?
Before she could discern the details, Anson's voice came from behind her, "Scarlett, wait."
Scarlett took a deep breath, barely managing to control herself, and smiled again as she turned to look at them.
Anson's lips curled into a slight smile. "I'm sorry, I didn't expect this at all..."
Scarlett waved her hand. "It's a surprise party. This shows that Annie put in a lot of effort and brought a real surprise."
Anson: "I've been busy all day, I shouldn't have kept you talking. Why don't you go back and get some rest, and we can continue our discussion on set tomorrow?"
Work—it turned out Anson had caught up with her because of work. Scarlett was somewhat lost in thought.
Anson said, "Look, Sir Kane has reminded us more than once or twice, but we still can't break the habit of constantly discussing and discussing. That's fine, let's not just talk the talk, let's get straight to the walk."
“It’s getting late. Let Noah escort you back. It’s obviously not easy to hail a taxi on the street in London these days.”
A warm current flowed through Scarlett's chest, but a bitter taste lingered on her tongue. "Anson, don't be so considerate and gentle. It's easy to cause misunderstandings."
Anson was taken aback and looked at Scarlett. "So you misunderstood?"
Scarlett held her breath, her mind blank, as she scrutinized Anson, trying to catch a glimpse of something in his deep blue eyes.
The problem is, she doesn't know what she's looking for, and for a moment, her heart seems to have forgotten to beat.
