Chapter 1860 Fame
Wait, what?
Thierry came to London specifically to invite Anson to Cannes? What does that mean?
In his personal capacity, as a guest? Or as a member of the judging panel?
Or are you going as an actor with your work? In the main competition or another category?

Could it be... "The Child of Mankind"?
Thoughts and ideas surged up into my heart in an instant, almost suffocating me; excitement and exhilaration erupted like a volcano.

Emmanuel looked at Anson, Alfonso looked at Anson, and Thierry also looked at Anson.

All eyes were fixed on Ansen, their gazes burning slightly.

Not to mention others, Anson himself was slightly taken aback. He had not expected Thierry to come to visit the set, and he did not know whether Thierry had persuaded Lucas or Edgar before coming to visit. He was completely kept in the dark; he was even more surprised that Thierry had come specifically to invite him. Everything was beyond his expectations.

Anson didn't hide his surprise, displaying his true emotions with ease, "Wow, this invitation is quite grand, it's definitely my honor. So, is Mr. Fu Mao getting married?"

Thierry laughed out loud. "If it were my wedding, I wouldn't dare trouble Mr. Anson Wood. My relatives and friends would probably all go crazy."

Before Emmanuel could react, Alfonso pulled him aside, saying, "We should get ready for filming. Anson can wait a bit longer."

Without a word, Alfonso had already pulled Emmanuel away, exchanging only a few polite words with Thierry before hurrying away from the corner.

For the first time, a crack appeared on Emmanuel's serious face as he looked at Alfonso in disbelief. "Cannes invited Anson, why don't we stay?"

Alfonso: "Yes, he came to invite Anson, not us."

Emmanuel was taken aback. "What do you mean? Anson is one of us, isn't he?"

Alfonso: "Yes, Anson is indeed in our crew, but Anson has more projects than just us. If Cannes had invited us, Thierry should have said just now that he was there to see me. In France, filmmaking revolves around the director, and Thierry wouldn't have made such a mistake."

Emmanuel paused, "But doesn't he spend a lot of time socializing with us?"

Alfonso: "Politeness, Emmanuel, that's called politeness. Haven't you realized that neither you nor I are entitled to have Cannes personally invite us?"

"Perhaps, when we apply for the Cannes main competition, the selection committee will need to watch and discuss it before deciding whether to give us a spot. How could they possibly come knocking on our door to invite us when our film is still in production?"

Alfonso, a man of sound mind.

Emmanuel finally came to his senses and realized that Alfonso was right, but this realization left him slightly disappointed, and his high expectations flew off aimlessly like a deflated balloon.

Emmanuel was still a little depressed, but he stubbornly said, "But you don't need to be so discouraged and belittle yourself. Alfonso, you are an excellent director. I told you that you should believe in yourself, and people will eventually realize your excellence and greatness."

However, the realities of Hollywood made it difficult for Alfonso to feel confident.

Letting out a long breath, Alfonso smiled. "Who knows? Maybe this work is the opportunity. Anson can take us to Cannes."

Emmanuel instinctively prepared to refute, but then he realized that it seemed unnecessary. This realization left Emmanuel somewhat frustrated. "Hmm. Maybe."

Alfonso gently shook his head. "Why are you unwilling to acknowledge Anson's excellence in front of you?"

Emmanuel: "I admit it. I give full credit to his performance." Under Alfonso's gaze, Emmanuel rolled his eyes helplessly. "The whole world is sucking up to him. You don't need to worry about him suffering any setbacks. Look, even Cannes came to invite him personally. He is the center of the world. The praise he receives is neither here nor there."

Alfonso was quite frustrated. One thing was one thing; Anson's dedication and performance on the "Children of Men" set were undeniable, and he hoped Emmanuel would acknowledge it. But before Alfonso could speak further, Emmanuel patted him on the shoulder, "Let's go, get ready. If the opportunity really comes our way, we need to produce a truly amazing work. Otherwise, even going to Cannes will be embarrassing. People won't blame Anson; they'll blame you."

After rambling on and on, Emmanuel and Alfonso left.

Thierry, however, continued to look at Anson, seemingly completely unaware of the commotion he had caused. "It's clear that the crew is working together very well. Indeed, the rumors are true."

Anson quietly observed Thierry, a smile creeping onto his lips. "Mr. Frémaux, there's no need for you to be so cautious. I'm not the kind of guy who's waiting to put on the emperor's new clothes."

Thierry paused, then burst into laughter. "Haha, I was just stating the facts, but it seems you've heard these words so many times you're sick of them, you've developed an immunity by now?"

Anson raised an eyebrow slightly. "It's not that bad. Praise is always welcome, and who likes criticism? I wish the whole world would say I'm perfect, say it a hundred times a day. Believe me, I'll never get tired of it."

“Haha.” Thierry smiled broadly. “Agreed, that would be a perfect world. I also hope that Cannes can always be bathed in applause.”

"But unfortunately, that's not how the real world we live in is, right?"

Anson didn't reply, but simply shrugged, his face completely at ease.

Thierry didn't beat around the bush any longer. "This summer, I officially take over as the director of the film festival's selection committee, and I may need some help."

“From Anson-Wood”

Anson paused for a moment, then realized why Emmanuel and Alfonso didn't seem to recognize Thierry. It turned out that Thierry had just been promoted to a new job this year, and the next Cannes Film Festival would be his first major event as the director of the selection committee.

In other words, next year will be the first time Thierry will stand in the spotlight and be bombarded with attention, and he will usher in the peak of Cannes for the next twenty years.

However... in Anson's memory, Alfonso never seemed to go to Cannes throughout his entire career, including later on, not to mention the main competition, he didn't even receive an invitation to the non-competition section.

It's unclear whether there are more complex reasons behind this.

Anson: "Congratulations. Wow, that's great news! Congratulations! It's been so long since we last met in Cannes..."

Thierry, "A year and a half."

Anson: "Yes, congratulations. Congratulations on your promotion!"

Thierry: "Thank you, but this is also a responsibility and a heavy burden. It means I need to be accountable for the film festival, ensure its quality, and set its direction."

Anson gently raised his chin. "So you're inviting me to Cannes to be a dedicated film fan? Oh, my honor, I'm so touched."

Thierry laughed. "Why be so modest? Anson Wood is a film enthusiast, but he's definitely more than just a film enthusiast; he's also an excellent actor. Remember? Your film won the Palme d'Or, the highest honor at Cannes?"
