The Best Actor in the Vase of Meiyu
Chapter 1915: Fighting for Love with a Knife
Chapter 1915: Fighting for Love with a Knife
On an ordinary weekday morning, innovative artists are as busy and bustling as ever, barely having time to rest, and not even having time to drink water, fully embodying the atmosphere of awards season.
With the Oscar nominations announced, the second phase of the Academy's public relations campaign has begun, involving various dinners, screenings, and charitable foundation events. Strategies need to be tailored to each film and nomination, and collaboration with film and distribution companies is essential.
As a result, meetings were held one after another, especially for the innovative artist, a leading figure in the industry, who mobilized everyone from top to bottom, making it the busiest time of the year.
Nevertheless, someone still pushed open Richard Loft's office door. "Hey, Edgar, I heard you were here. Just wanted to congratulate you. Finally, Anson, huh? It's time for those old guys at the academy to make some changes, isn't it?"
Edgar shrugged slightly. "This is just the beginning. Just the first step, the first step."
Then, they exchanged glances and burst into laughter.
The office quieted down again, and Edgar needed some space to organize his thoughts. Although he had a clear idea, finding a suitable project was like finding a needle in a haystack. He still needed the help of creative artists to leverage collective strength and cast a wide net—this was also a strength of creative artists.
Resource sharing.
Since joining Creative Artists, Anson has yet to enjoy the unique advantage of this top agency's extensive reach throughout Hollywood, its inexhaustible resource pool, and the fact that it is openly shared by the entire company. Now it's time for Creative Artists to do something for Anson.
Settle down on the dark brown leather sofa and look out the window to take in the entire cityscape of Century City and even Los Angeles.
From this vantage point, all the mountains appear small.
A pile of scripts was casually laid out on the coffee table. It was clear that Richard was reading them one by one, but it was unclear who he was selecting the projects for.
Edgar flipped through it casually; the cover alone was enough.
Almost all of the projects here originated from Edgar's work.
Previously, the creative artists knew that Anson was busy filming "Children of Men," but all of Hollywood's resources were flocking to Anson, and they still needed to make arrangements for Anson's next step.
If Hollywood could, it would be even more eager for Anson to split in two, working on two separate film sets simultaneously, filling his schedule from morning till night, Monday to Sunday. Even so, it still wouldn't alleviate the current Hollywood film companies' urgent desire for Anson.
So Edgar kept looking at the project.
Edgar wasn't the only one looking at projects; other agents were also scouting for them. If they thought a project was suitable, they could inform Edgar and then approach Anson with their own ideas about the script, director, and actors to persuade him to take on the project.
This working model is what makes innovative artists so special.
Undoubtedly, innovative artists are also eager to fully utilize Anson's influence to open up new possibilities for their careers.
"I've seen it. I've seen it. I've seen this one too."
"……Um?"
Edgar flipped through the projects one by one, his hand about to stop, then flipped back, glancing at the titles and then at the names of the project leaders.
Edgar paused for a moment, looking slightly hesitant and unsure whether he should read it, but he gave up, withdrew his right hand, and sat up straight again.
I sat quietly in place for a while, my mind churning with a torrent of thoughts that I couldn't sort out, and I couldn't calm down for a while.
After thinking for a moment, Edgar reopened the pile of projects, found the one he had just reviewed, leaned back in his chair, and began to peruse it.
The noise and clamor gradually subsided, and Edgar, unaware of it, found himself immersed in it, pondering deeply. Until—
"Sorry, the meeting took a little longer. God, it's always like this during awards season. We thought we wouldn't make the same mistake again, but we still ended up in the same ditch."
Richard pushed open the office door, clearly having been reminded by his assistant, and hurried toward his desk, muttering a few complaints as he went.
"Oh, by the way, congratulations on the Oscar nomination, Anson deserves it. Honestly, I've never been so happy for an actor to be nominated."
"So, it looks like you've just come from Anson's place early this morning. The next step is to come to my office. If our Oscar nominee needs anything, just say so, and I'll do my best to help."
Decisive and efficient, swift and decisive.
Although his style of doing things is slightly different from Brian Lord's, Richard still exudes an aura of power.
Edgar sat on the sofa the whole time, absorbed in his project and had no chance to speak. When he heard Richard get straight to the point, he knew that Richard was busy and overwhelmed and had no time for pleasantries, so he skipped the formalities.
Edgar picked up the project in his hand, stood up, went to the desk, and placed the project in front of Richard.
"this."
Richard glanced down at the cover, a smile spreading across his face. "So, how was it? Did you enjoy your reading experience?"
Actually, Richard didn't remember the project at all. He was very busy and needed to refresh his memory, so he made some polite conversation to buy time while quickly flipping through the document.
Edgar, however, didn't care. "I like it. So, this project goes to Anson, is that alright?"
Richard was still reviewing the project. "Of course. Anson is our most important client right now. His needs come first, and everyone else has to take a backseat."
However, Edgar was not so easily fooled; he immediately recognized that it was all just empty talk and that Richard was stalling for time.
Edgar didn't care whether Richard knew about the project or not; he had already set his sights on it.
Edgar then pulled the project back from his desk. "Well then, everything's perfect. My work for today is all done."
Richard grabbed the project quickly, "Edgar. Edgar! Wait. Don't rush. Why? Why did you choose this project?"
Edgar narrowed his eyes slightly but did not answer Richard's question. "I thought Anson was now the most important client for innovative artists, putting all their needs first. So, the reason doesn't matter; what matters is that Anson needs to read the project first, and if he's not satisfied, the project will naturally go back to the pool."
Richard, however, did not fall for Edgar's rhetoric. "Edgar, you are the agent. Once you enter the realm of innovative artists, you should stand on the same side as us."
Edgar shook his head and smiled. "Richard, you don't think I can't distinguish boundaries, do you?"
He is first and foremost Anson's agent, and only secondly an agent for innovative artists.
This was a bottom line and a principle, which was why Edgar wasn't easily fooled, especially in front of an old fox like Richard, where he remained vigilant at all times.
