Chapter 2043 Willingness
Lucas took a calm breath, trying to keep his voice as even as possible. "If you're going to be an actor, then just continue acting in movies. There's no need to go into the theater world and make things difficult for yourself. They're especially strict with actors who aren't from academies. Anyway, you don't want to win the approval of those old guys from academies, do you?"

Anson waved his hand, "You can't say that. The stricter the requirements, the more you can learn. Even if it's not to please the Academy or prove yourself, or for a Tony Award, practicing the basics of acting is a good thing."

"Besides, Mom will be happy if we go back to New York for a year or two. She always complains that we're both on the West Coast and never come home."

"Perfect timing, I'll go home now and spend more time with her."

Lucas: ...

He knew Anson's trick was just a way to deliberately provoke him; but the key point was that he understood Anson, and this guy might actually go and become an apprentice on Broadway, and if he did, things would be beyond repair.

So even knowing it was a provocation, Lucas still had no choice but to bite the bullet and jump in.

Damn it! The whole EGOT thing is Kate's fault, so which Kate is it, Winslet or Blanchett?

Two "Kates": Achoo!

Lucas let out a soft breath and turned to Edgar. "Do you have any other projects? Take some home so Anson can choose some at his leisure."

Anson smiled slightly. "No, we don't need any other scripts. Martin McDonagh is fine."

Lucas turned to look at him. "After he treated you like that in London? Even if you want to show your approachability, there's no need to do this."

"Nobody likes arrogant and high-handed behavior, but without any authority, it also means that anyone can step on our heads."

Anson raised an eyebrow slightly. "They can give it a try."

A seemingly casual remark reveals a hint of murderous intent. Look at Sony Columbia, then look at the Academy; one bloody example after another is right before your eyes. Even when facing those at the very top of the pyramid of fame and fortune, Anson still proves his strength with repeated counterattacks.

Anson looked at Lucas, "To demonstrate a tough stance, you don't need to target the weak; you should challenge the strong. Choose someone of similar size."

“Luca, crushing ants doesn’t bring pleasure or deterrence.”

Then, Anson's smile returned.

"In fact, you should imagine how frustrated Martin is right now; he's so pathetic."

puff.

Edgar couldn't help but laugh out loud. Realizing his lapse in composure, he waved his hands repeatedly, "That's not the point. We don't need to worry about others; we only need to think about ourselves. Anson's interests are the only important thing."

Anson snapped his fingers. "The captain is right."

"The captain went to great lengths to persuade Martin back then because the project was a good fit, wasn't it?"

Edgar nodded. “A dark comedy cannot be defined by a simple genre film. It may evolve into ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ or it may become ‘Trainspotting’. It is malleable and can present different effects depending on the interpretation of the actors and directors.”

This is what they have been pursuing: breaking the mold.

But, “You haven’t read the script yet, have you?” Edgar hadn’t forgotten.

Anson's lips curled into a slight smile. "But I believe in you, Captain." Edgar was stunned. Even after working together for so long, Anson could still move him with just a few words.

In fact, Anson's memory of the story of "No Holiday" is somewhat hazy. He remembers some outlines and some classic dark humor scenes, but he has forgotten the whole story.

Furthermore, if Anson remembers correctly, the release of the previous version of "No Holiday" faces serious challenges.

Colin Farrell still lacks appeal, repeatedly getting opportunities only to ruin them himself. Hollywood has lost patience with him, so while the film was successfully released in the UK, its distribution in other countries and regions hit a wall, and it was even completely ignored and forgotten in North America, the world's largest film market.

Like movies such as "Trainspotting" and "Fight Club," it wasn't until the DVD release that they circulated among movie fans and gradually gained a good reputation.

Unfortunately, "In Buddies" did not become a classic like "Trainspotting" or "Fight Club." It did not have the same unrestrained spirit as the former, nor the same dramatic twist at the end as the latter, and it lacked the quality to break out of its niche.

In Anson's view, Martin could let loose a bit more, like "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," and completely unleash his inherent lawlessness. Judging from Martin's career, he is actually quite restrained and introverted, far less daring than he appears in real life.

Therefore, as Anson said, he believed Edgar's judgment; Edgar must have had something special about the script to have spent so much effort trying to persuade Martin.

Anson noticed Edgar's slightly flickering eyes and a smile appeared in his own. "Captain, you're so moved by just a few words?"

"Isn't this a bad idea? How will you be able to be ruthless when competing with others for resources in the future?"

Edgar, however, was already used to it. He remained calm in the face of Anson's teasing. "It's alright. I can swing my knife with tears in my eyes and put on a hypocritical act of being reluctant but having no other choice."

"Haha." Anson burst out laughing.

"Furthermore, my discussions with Martin were very pleasant. He is a screenwriter who relies on inspiration. It is difficult for him to sit down and write a story based on a given theme. He needs inspiration to trigger an idea in his mind, a character or a plot, and then it evolves into a story."

"If he can find inspiration, his writing will be very smooth and effortless; but if he can't, he might sit in front of the typewriter for a month and not be able to type a single word."

“Creators like this have no place in Hollywood because everything here is an assembly line operation, producing scripts and projects continuously like producing molds.”

"But in fact, such creators are the source of vitality for films. Otherwise, after all the assembly line work, it will eventually become a matter of copying and pasting oneself. Audiences are not stupid, and they will gradually lose interest."

This is the case with later superhero movies.

Lucas, "So you're going to support Martin's work?"

Anson laughed. "I can do charity work personally, but Forest Pictures can't. This is a business, right?"

"Essentially, it's because Martin found inspiration in me and reimagined the entire project, which is a major reason why he was willing to approach me."

Lucas quipped, "Not because of the investment?"

Anson: "Haha, that's part of the reason. But I believe that when inspiration strikes, he can create an amazing work, and I hope to be a part of that."

Lucas realized he might not be able to stop Anson, and felt a little helpless. He didn't want to trap Anson; he wanted to see Anson continue to do what he loved and continue to shine. But he couldn't help but worry, "But, your body... Anson, you need to rest."
