Chapter 2049 Forbidden Topics
Brad slapped his forehead, making a crisp sound. "Ah, I forgot! Sorry, I always forget that this guy is also a superhero."
Chris's eyes widened in protest, "Hey, what do you mean?"
Brad didn't even glance at Chris. "Literally. Do they know what a pathetic, filthy place you are at home?"
Chris kicked Brad underwater, but couldn't get any leverage and slipped, ending up sitting on the bottom, bubbling and flailing about. He thrashed about, swallowed some water, and finally managed to regain his balance, panting heavily as he sat up.
Chris immediately spotted his two friends laughing so hard they were doubled over. He was speechless. "James is the dirtiest one, okay? But he's the Green Goblin now."
"Hayden had mountains of dirty laundry, have you forgotten? There was a time when his dirty clothes were so dirty they grew mushrooms. We threw that pile of clothes in the trash and burned them, but I didn't reveal that in any interviews."
Crackle, crackle, Chris is expressing his strong protest.
Brad glanced furtively at the beaming Anson, then kicked Chris underwater. "You're unusually quick-witted today, all in one go."
As he spoke, he made faces and winks. Chris, not understanding what he meant, glared back fiercely.
Seeing this, Anson was overjoyed. "Chris, have you run into Hayden recently? With the promotional periods overlapping, you might bump into him on some occasions?"
Ah, Hayden.
Chris finally realized that this was the second time he had mentioned Hayden today, and when he looked at Brad again, he looked away with a slightly guilty expression.
"No, I haven't met him yet," Chris quickly denied.
Anson's eyes were full of smiles. "Even if you don't meet them now, you will in the future. Didn't I run into one at the BBC? Hollywood is really small."
Chris immediately looked up. "Yes, that's it. It's because of that talk show that I keep thinking about him."
"Anson, did you two really have a huge argument on the show?"
Anson noticed Brad's wink. "Brad, there's no need to be so cautious. I'm not a tiger. Besides, what's past is past. I'm not that scary, okay?"
“Indeed, we had a conflict on the show. In the words of his assistant, I was bullying Hayden, and it was unnecessarily vicious and cold-blooded.”
Chris's brows furrowed in distress. "How dare he!"
Anson: "In some ways, I think he's right."
Chris exclaimed, "Anson!"
Anson: "Indeed, things aren't great, but we still don't know what happened, do we?"
Brad rolled his eyes. "That's because Hayden didn't say anything; it's none of our business."
Anson: "Yes, but aside from leaving without saying goodbye, he didn't hurt us, didn't spread negative rumors behind our backs, and didn't do anything else to wrong us. So, we're not friends, but does he really deserve so much hatred? Does he really deserve that brutal treatment?"
This time, both Brad and Chris were able to speak.
Brad paused for a moment, then said, "Anson, just how ruthless are you?"
Anson's lips curled up. "When facing that assistant, I was able to do something that left me speechless and even made me question myself."
Brad and Chris looked at each other in bewilderment.
Brad, "Now that you mention it, I'm actually a little curious."
Anson, "Didn't you guys watch the show?"
Brad shook his head. Chris said, "I don't want to see his face. To be honest, I'm still not mentally prepared. But maybe...we can take a look?"
As he spoke, Chris stood up and left the hot tub.
Brad called out, and Chris explained, "Let's check the BBC now, maybe."
Before he could finish speaking, Chris had already rushed back into the hall. Brad glanced at Anson, stood up, and jogged after him.
Anson couldn't help but chuckle. He slowly stepped out of the hot tub, wrapped himself in a towel, and returned indoors. The whistling sea breeze was shut out, and the world quieted down and the air warmed up.
He ignored the two people and went to the bathroom, took a quick hot shower, changed his clothes, went back to the kitchen to pour himself a glass of lemon honey water, and then returned to the living room.
Anson was quite surprised to see Chris and Brad watching the TV screen with unusual focus and excitement. "Is it really on TV?"
Chris nodded. "You didn't know? This episode has been rebroadcast all the time. Even the rebroadcasts have good ratings. It's not just one channel; other BBC channels are also rebroadcasting it in rotation."
Anson was taken aback, then chuckled, "This is probably 3th Century Fox's idea. They'll stop at nothing to boost the box office of 'Star Wars: Episode III'."
"You two, stop looking at each other with those expectant expressions, like you're watching a Columbia soap opera, okay?"
Anson curled up on the single sofa next to him, wrapped himself in cushions, and completely relaxed.
Chris: "Looking forward to it, of course I'm looking forward to it, I have to look forward to it. It's rare to see Anson go all out, I can't even imagine how Hayden managed to cope."
Brad, "I estimate he'll be badly wounded and die on the spot."
In the afternoon, the sunlight lazily spilled down, the sea breeze rustled the palm trees, and the waves surged, but the world inside the house was quiet.
In the stillness, warmth spread. For once, the group didn't run outside. Instead, they turned on the TV, curled up on the sofa, and enjoyed an episode of a talk show.
Exclamations, praises, and applause rose and fell, creating an incredibly exciting atmosphere.
I don't know when it started, or whether Brad or Chris made the first call to invite their friends, but one after another, friends came to Malibu, each bringing a snack or a dish. In just one hour, the living room was packed with people.
There wasn't enough room on the sofa, so everyone sat cross-legged on the floor.
Brad even took out a VHS tape to record the program, and the group watched it together with the same dedication they showed when studying movies.
Even though they had already heard the rumors and had seen it once, they were still shocked and couldn't believe that Anson had actually unleashed his power upon watching it again.
No one has ever seen Anson unleash such ruthless and full-force attacks, especially on a television program.
When the birthday cake was brought out, everyone whistled, stood up, and clapped; the lively and festive scene was just like a party.
Anson looked helpless, but he couldn't stop these guys.
However, Anson couldn't help but recall Irving's words again. Did Hayden's mistake really deserve such treatment? To leave a mark on the television screen, to become a stain, to be repeatedly examined and discussed, to truly become a memory, and even to become part of Hayden's image.
Anson is not a saint; he is neither that kind nor that righteous. He doesn't want to let his guilt run rampant, but this time he can't help but think that perhaps he has indeed crossed that line.
Time flies, and even though Lucas consciously controlled the pace and tried to give Anson a few more days of rest, the weather waits for no one, and they couldn't miss the winter.
So, Anson's vacation in Malibu ended, and he quietly left the North American continent, flew across the Atlantic, and embarked on a new job journey.
