Chapter 2084 I Do What I Want
Chapter 2084 I Do What I Want
Anson, completely ignored.
He doesn't care, doesn't mind, doesn't concern himself, because he knows that his very existence is a topic of conversation and a focal point. Even if he sits quietly in place, he can still spark all sorts of topics and debates. If he were to constantly worry about what others think, he would probably have trouble breathing.
Those are all matters concerning the North American continent. They are currently in Europe, and the turmoil across the Atlantic Ocean is not something Anson needs to worry about for the time being.
Now, for Anson, the only thing that matters is movies.
The point isn't writing my first film review, but rather that it's the first time I've truly transformed myself, immersing myself in the Cannes frenzy as a film enthusiast.
I'm a little excited!
This awakened memories of Anson's first visit to the "Friends" set, a feeling akin to an adventure, constantly releasing dopamine and making him unable to contain his excitement.
Compared to words, Roger could feel Anson's happiness more directly and vividly. It was overwhelming; his bright eyes didn't lie, and he could feel the joyful and vibrant life up close. "So, how many points would you give your first professional film review?"
"Haha." Anson laughed directly. "Not exactly professional, just some thoughts. But, four points."
The Cannes Film Festival's rating system has a maximum score of four points.
Anson delivered a perfect score right from the start?
If it were an ordinary film critic, then it wouldn't matter, but this is Anson. Are you sure there's no connection?
Some people might criticize Anson for being naive and giving perfect scores everywhere, while others might be amazed that Anson would immediately give the highest rating. Obviously, these are all abnormal situations. Shouldn't novice film critics be more cautious and restrained from the start?
The thought briefly lingered in Roger's mind.
Then, that thought transformed into a smile that crept onto Roger's lips. A hint of happiness shone in Roger's eyes, and he made no attempt to hide it, letting out a sigh.
“It’s a bit of a surprise. I didn’t expect you to be in Haneke’s camp. As an actor, you’ve never done this type of work before.”
Anson nodded. “Indeed. The perspectives of an actor and a director are different. Haneke’s works are entirely the director’s work; he has his own themes and his own soul. Actors cannot overshadow the director, which is why Haneke has always disliked using actors that people are familiar with.”
"As an actor, I need to project charisma. I'm not Robert De Niro or Meryl Streep. I need the camera to see me."
Roger showed a hint of admiration. As expected, Anson, like Marilyn Monroe, was someone whose soul was often overlooked because of his appearance.
Roger, "So, you like 'hidden cameras'?"
Anson: "I like it, but I don't recommend it."
"I think Haneke is a cold-blooded executioner to some extent. He calmly and restrainedly dissects those glamorous exteriors, allowing people to see the filth, rot, and distortion inside. Many times, he even has a kind of perverse pleasure, hoping that the audience will feel uncomfortable and have a burning sensation in their stomachs, testing the audience's moral bottom line in this way, and trying to awaken people's instinct to think."
Roger: "I agree with that; he wants people to think about it."
Anson: "I'm a little curious about the director's ideas. Does he think that contemporary people, after being eroded by popular culture, have lost their ability to think and have become numb; or does he think that modern civilization, like exquisite wrapping paper, tightly hides the true nature of humanity, and he is trying to expose the truth behind those masks?"
Roger gently raised his chin. "That's an interesting point of view." After a moment of contemplation, "Personally, I lean towards the latter. He always harbored a sense of skepticism and defiance, which I personally believe is related to his life experiences."
"Did you know that he was once sent to Denmark by his mother and stepfather as part of a post-World War II child exchange program? Later, due to a lack of connections and funds, he was unable to enter the film industry and instead studied philosophy and psychology at the University of Vienna. He did not make his first film until he was 47 years old."
Two short sentences are insufficient to describe a person's entire life, or even just one aspect of their personality.
However, the images and details in the film came crashing in like a tidal wave.
Roger noticed Anson's expression. "So, does everything make sense now?" Anson chuckled and shook his head. "No, it's just that the movie scenes are so lifelike, as if they're imprinted in my mind. To be honest, I don't think it's a good thing. After watching 'Funny Games' back then, I kept gagging and had nightmares for a whole week. My brother still teases me about it. It wasn't even a horror movie, yet it had a more powerful impact than any horror movie ever."
Roger said, "Because of the existence of those things in horror movies, we can't be 100% sure if they exist in real life; but the existence of those things in Haneke's movies, we all know, they've always been there."
Anson: ...
Anson glanced at Roger quietly. "Oh, Roger!" Anson stretched out his arm. "Do you see the goosebumps?" He kept rubbing his arm as if he had fallen into an ice cellar.
Roger threw his head back and laughed.
When Niles passed by the coffee shop, this was the scene he saw through the window. He couldn't believe his eyes and, as if possessed, pushed open the door and peered inside, his voice rising in disbelief.
"Anson?"
The next second, before Anson could respond, two men at the next table stood up, assuming a ready-to-go stance and becoming fully alert.
Niles spotted Reese and Eduardo and realized he had made a mistake, so he shrank back.
But clearly, it was all too late.
A small circle of silence fell, and then this power of silence spread like ripples, with whispering gazes, after a brief moment of confusion, all converging on the corner.
In an instant, those gazes formed a spotlight, completely enveloping Ansen, and the sweltering heat was suppressed, becoming even more oppressive and ferocious.
Rhys had no time to pay attention to Niles. He was tense all over, his eyes and ears alert. He took a step forward and blocked part of the view.
Anson looked at Roger, a hint of helplessness in his smile, "Perfect timing, I need to rush to the next match."
"The one at the Directors' Fortnight?"
"Yes, I heard there are a lot of treasures there this year."
Anson quickly tidied his things, stood up, and amidst the astonished gazes, raised his right hand high and shouted, "Hanek, Palme d'Or!"
One sentence was like a thunderbolt, and everyone in the coffee shop burst into laughter. Some agreed, some complained, some booed, and some whistled.
Crowded.
Seeing Niles's almost tearful expression, Anson laughed heartily, patted Niles on the shoulder, said nothing more, and continued on his way. Eduardo had already pushed open the door, Anson went out, and Reese brought up the rear. The group had left in the blink of an eye.
The people remaining in the coffee shop looked at each other, unable to process what was happening for a while.
When Niles saw this, he immediately remembered that these guys were probably telling that "Anson joke" again, but Anson heard it all.
disaster!
