Desert Eagle Suletan Khan
Chapter 1284 Using Both Soft and Hard Approaches to Control Two Domains
After capturing Ganzhou, the Great Khan of Lotus ordered a news blackout, forbidding anyone from leaving the city on horseback. He then inspected the world-renowned Fushou Canal, admiring its many ingenious designs. Upon arriving at the Eight Realms Terrace, he exclaimed, "It's a pity that such a talent as Liu Yi wasn't born in our dynasty!" He then picked up his brush and wrote:
"Visiting Ganzhou to Mourn Lord Liu"
The Zhang and Gong rivers encircle the city walls.
The eight scenic spots are beautiful, but flood control is difficult.
Blessings and longevity, wonders, floods cease.
All the people of the city are safe and sound.
Today I ascended the Eight Realms Terrace.
The winter sun shines brightly on the New Year.
The Gan River has flown away, and the people are no longer here.
Bathed in the lingering influence of tradition, my heart is filled with sorrow.
After mourning Liu Yi, who had built the Fushou Canal, and suppressing his post-victory elation, Sultan began to attend to state affairs. He had previously ordered a cover-up of the capture of Ganzhou to prevent the two Wu armies reinforcing Ganzhou from fleeing back to their home province. He was determined to annihilate the enemy reinforcements, solely to intimidate the Shang and Geng vassals. After capturing Nanchang, he again sent envoys to Guangzhou and Fuzhou to persuade Shang Kexi and Geng Jimao to surrender. While the two vassals were polite to the envoys, they both politely declined. This was expected; although the Shang and Geng families sometimes clashed with the Wu family, they were more often allies. With Wu Sangui, the most powerful figure, still alive, expecting the two vassals to surrender was difficult. The most important thing now was to ensure the two vassals behaved themselves and did not cause trouble while he marched south to Yunnan and Guizhou. To achieve this goal, the Great Khan resolved to annihilate the reinforcements from the two provinces, demonstrating his military might.
Speed is of the essence in war, so he ordered King Meras of Qi to lead 70,000 cavalry to Shenxianling and Deputy General Xirimo of the Eastern Expedition to lead 50,000 cavalry to Ruijin. Each of them had two horses and they were to annihilate the enemy as soon as possible and demonstrate the military might of the Kingdom of David.

"Uncle, we have been attacking for twenty days. The Wei army is holding the line and it is difficult to take Shenxianling in a short time. Perhaps we should take a detour," Shen Rui asked Shen Yongxing for instructions.
"Take a detour?" Shen Yongxing chuckled. "If we really take a detour to Ganzhou, we'll have to clash with the main force of the Imperial Guard personally led by the fake Khan. Do you think our small force is a match for them?"
Shen Rui suddenly realized, "Uncle means to launch a feint attack on Shenxian Ridge, just to make a show of it?"
Shen Yongxing smiled and said, "Making a show of reinforcements is also a form of support. As long as we make it appear as if we are rescuing Ganzhou, the Wei army will have to divide its forces to deal with us, and the pressure on Ganzhou will naturally be reduced."
“But even a feint attack will result in casualties. Today, my nephew led his troops to attack the mountain, and more than a hundred soldiers were lost,” Shen Rui said with a hint of dissatisfaction.
Shen Yongxing thought for a moment and said, "Tomorrow I will order Jieshan and Tong Guoqing to lead their troops to attack the mountain." Jieshan and Tong Guoqing had always been close to Shang Kexi, but their relationship with him was superficially friendly but inwardly hostile.
Shen Rui suddenly lowered his voice, "I'm doing what Uncle instructed me to do. I've already secretly won over Liu Jinzhong, Xu Long, and Miao Zhixiu. But it seems Lu Xingzu and Jieshan are also trying to win them over." Shen Yongxing nodded, "Lu Xingzu has Wu Sangui behind him, and Jieshan has Shang Kexi behind him. Tell them that as long as we stick together, the Chaoshan area will still be our territory!" These words revealed the Shen family's ambition to seize control of Chaoshan. In fact, when Shen Yongxing left Chaozhou, he asked his elder brother, the former Duke Xu Shun, Shen Yongzhong, to stay and guard Chaozhou. However, what he didn't know was that no sooner had his army left than Shang Kexi sent Generals Zhang Guoxun and Wang Chengye to take over the defense of Chaozhou, and Shen Yongzhong's small force had been forcibly incorporated into the army.
"Uncle, rest assured, I have made some progress these days. Xu Long has expressed his intention to join forces with us."
The uncle and nephew were discussing military matters when suddenly they heard a great battle cry. Deputy General Deng Guangming stumbled in, "My lord, it's terrible! The Imperial Guards have surrounded us and are attacking the camp."
"What?!" The two Shens were shocked.
King Meras of Qi quickly arrived at Shenxianling with 70,000 cavalry, where they joined forces with King Biligendalai of Zhao, who led an army of over 60,000, bringing their combined strength to over 130,000. The two kings then decided to take advantage of their high morale and swiftly surround and attack the Wu army at Shenxianling.
The Wei army's attack came suddenly, catching the Wu army, which was used to offensive tactics, off guard. General Jie Shan and Tong Guoqing's camps were deliberately set up on the outskirts of the main camp by Shen Yongxing, so they were the first to be attacked and quickly breached. The two generals were also killed one by one with tiger forks by the Wei army's fierce general, Wanhu Chief Sonam Tsering. The Governor-General of Guangdong and Guangxi, Lu Xingzu, had the fewest troops and became the second target to be annihilated. After an hour of fierce fighting, he was captured by the Wei army. General Liu Jinzhong and Deputy General Miao Zhixiu died in battle in the camp. Seeing that the situation was not good, General Xu Long ordered his men to raise the surrender flag.
Shen Yongxing and Shen Rui defended their camp, while the guards outside launched a relentless offensive. Zhao Yue, the general of Jiaxing, eager to make a name for himself, led four thousand guards straight into the Wu army's main camp, killing two Wu army guerrilla generals, Li Chenggong and Zhang Shanji, before being killed by a stray arrow himself.
The Wei army, outnumbered and outmatched, caught the Wu army off guard and quickly breached their camp, killing their deputy general Deng Guangming. Faced with the densely packed Wei army closing in, Shen Yongxing and his nephew Shen Rui lost their will to fight and knelt to surrender.
In the Battle of Shenxianling, the Wei army annihilated more than 40,000 Wu troops at the cost of 5,000 casualties, greatly boosting their morale.

The Battle of Tingzhou was far more farcical. Lin Tianqing, the Governor-General of Zhejiang and Fujian, merely wanted to seize military power under the guise of rescuing Ganzhou; he had no intention of fighting the Wei army to the death. After leading his army to capture the ancient city of Tingzhou, although he engaged in several battles with Liao King Sumur in Ruijin, these were all minor skirmishes with much fanfare. Secretly, he had already dispatched scouts over a hundred miles away and loaded provisions and supplies onto wagons, ready to retreat at any moment if the situation turned unfavorable.
On this day, Governor Lin was leisurely enjoying tea in his camp when General Lin Junqi rushed in, flustered. "Governor, something terrible has happened! Our scouts have spotted the Weiguo cavalry a hundred miles away!" Lin Junqi, Chen Hui, Wei Ming, and Weng Qiuduo had only been deputy generals under Geng Jimao. To win over the troops, Governor Lin had submitted a memorial to Wu Sangui, recommending the four for the position of general. Grateful for this, the four were willing to serve him.
"What!" Lin Tianqing jumped up from his chair and decisively ordered, "Pass down the order: retreat immediately and return to Tingzhou!"
Xirimo's cavalry arrived in Ruijin and joined forces with King Sumur of Liao. Learning that their prize had slipped away, they were unwilling to accept defeat. The king and the duke selected 30,000 of their best riders, each with two horses, and gave chase at top speed. They finally caught up with the Wu army fifty li west of Changting City, the seat of Tingzhou Prefecture. Desperate to escape, the Wu army had no will to fight. Seeing pursuers, they took off running towards Changting City.
The guards relentlessly pursued and slaughtered the Wu army, killing over 12,000 Wu soldiers at the cost of only a hundred casualties. Wu's generals Lin Junqi and Weng Qiuduo also perished in the chaos of battle.

News of the Wei army's capture of Ganzhou and the annihilation of the Guangdong and Fujian reinforcements spread, shaking the entire land. Lianhua Khan, feeling the threat to his rear had been eliminated, ordered Prince Qin, Zhuosiji, to lead 50,000 troops to garrison Ganzhou and oversee the Shang and Geng fiefdoms, while he himself led over 400,000 troops back to Huguang, preparing to march south from Huguang to Guangxi.
Enraged that Shen Yongxing and others had defied fate and opposed him, and also to further deter any potential threats, he ordered the execution of all captured officials: Shen Yongxing, the Duke of Xushun; Lu Xingzu, the Governor-General of Guangdong and Guangxi; General Shen Rui; and Xu Long. To subdue his enemies without a fight, he dispatched envoys during the march to try again to persuade the Shang and Geng princes to surrender. Although Shang Kexi and Geng Jimao still refused, their attitude towards the envoys was much better than before, treating them with lavish hospitality every day. This reassured the Great Khan, who believed that the two princes would not dare to cause trouble while he was campaigning against Wu Sangui. (End of Chapter)
