Chapter 99: Dealing with the problems left over from the traveling gears

Yu Dawei did not leave the site. He had to wait for the parts tomorrow. Since he had nothing to do at the moment, he went to section nine to check on the current working condition of the old Hitachi machine.

Regarding the small wheeled excavator, Yu Dawei planned to let Huang Man give it a try. Huang Man had been following Axe for a while now. Although he didn't have much mechanical talent, he was very serious about his work and would try his best to complete the tasks assigned to him.

He planned to tell Huang Man today, so that she could be mentally prepared.

At noon, Yu Dawei took his axe and Huang Man to the canteen and told them about his modified wheeled excavator.

When Huang Man learned that he also had an excavator that could be operated, he excitedly clenched his fists and said, "Brother Dawei, can I really do it? But I still can't quite figure out how to turn it."

"It's alright, practice makes perfect. You'll master it naturally over time." Yu Dawei glanced at Huang Man's bulky physique and said with a wry smile, "But the cab of the small excavator is very small. With your current build, you'll probably feel very cramped inside. Try to lose some weight."

Huang Man is on the taller side and has a plump build. The PW40 wheeled excavator is already quite small, and the cab is even smaller than that of the Hitachi excavator. However, it is still perfectly fine for a person weighing 180 pounds to fit inside.

However, Huang Man's weight is estimated to be over 200 pounds, and it's summer, so working in a cramped space would be very uncomfortable.

"I'll try my best." Huang Man scratched his head awkwardly, a simple smile spreading across his chubby face.

"Brother, if you're hoping he'll lose weight, you might as well just take all the windows off the cab." Axe joked as he ate. "This kid's been working like this for so long, sweating buckets every day, but have you seen him lose even a single pound since he came here?"

Hearing what Brother Axe said, Huang Man smiled wryly and confessed, "I was fat when I was a child. My classmates used to call me Fatty Huang. It seems that my weight has been increasing over the years and I have never lost any weight."

Yu Dawei, holding a steamed bun in his left hand and chopsticks in his right, sighed and rubbed his forehead in exasperation: "If that's really the case, I reckon we'll really have to remove the glass. The cab of that wheeled excavator is at least 1.2 square meters, plus the seat, gear lever, pedals and all sorts of other things, there's very little usable space."

"It's okay, Brother Dawei, I'll eat less starting today! I'm on a diet!" Huang Man really loves operating excavators now, as if the young man who guarded his home has found his dream of going out into the world. No matter how small the excavator is, Huang Man is determined to get it!
"No need, it's just removing a window pane, it won't take much effort." Yu Dawei used his chopsticks to pick up the last bit of bean sprouts from the plate and put them in his mouth to chew slowly.

Nowadays, the bean sprouts are all sprouted by the cafeteria staff themselves, without any additives. Of course, the quantity produced is not large, and the intervals between sprouts are long.

It's not easy to get a meal of stir-fried bean sprouts and chives.

“Your brother Dawei is right, this little thing is no problem for him, the master chef.” Axe didn’t eat much, but before he finished, he gave the last two pieces of chicken on his plate to Manzi. “Eat and drink as you please, don’t take anything to heart, why are you trying to lose weight?”

"Mmm." Huang Man took a bite of chicken and smiled happily.

It seems that he has been criticized since birth because his intelligence is not at the level of a normal person. People around him look at him with different meanings. He can't describe it, but he can feel it.

My mother kept telling me not to care, and although I agreed on the surface, how could I really not care?

That kind of look made it seem like they were covered in dog poop, and everyone would find it disgusting to even glance at them, so everyone chose to keep their distance.

My cousin, however, never treated me that way from childhood to adulthood, and protected me like a younger brother.

Also, here, whether it's Brother Dawei or Brother Axe, they both have very clear eyes when they treat me. Brother Axe usually scolds me, but at the same time, he also takes good care of me.

Knowing that he craves and loves meat, he would always save a few pieces of meat for himself whenever the cafeteria had it.

"What are you thinking about? You've sucked on this chicken bone so much, even a dog would curse you if it saw you." Yu Dawei leaned back in his chair, smiling at Huang Man.

"I really like it here." Huang Man thought seriously and answered earnestly.

Yu Dawei was speechless: "You think this lousy place is worth your time? Look at you, you've only been here a few days, and you've gone from a fair-skinned driver to a dark-skinned fat man."

Huang Man just grinned foolishly and didn't reply.

"By the way, you two haven't eaten the watermelon yet, have you?" Yu Dawei asked Axe.

"No, we put it in the car." Axe slapped his forehead. "We forgot to bring it back."

"After you finish eating, go and bring the watermelon to our dorm. We'll start eating it in a bit," Yu Dawei instructed Huang Man.

"Okay!" Huang Man got up and ran out quickly.

Yu Dawei and Fu Zi tidied up their plates and came to the cafeteria one after the other, watching Huang Man's back in the distance.

"That kid, there were cars passing by, why didn't he offer a ride?" Yu Dawei sighed, turning to Axe: "Just how good is Barbarian's skill? How many points out of 100 could he get now?"

"Sigh, it would be good if he could get a 60. If you have time, keep an eye on him." Yao Jinfu looked at Huang Man's back with concern in his eyes: "Don't be fooled by his smiling face. He's actually quite insecure at heart, and you can't rush him. He's prone to making mistakes if he gets anxious."

"Okay, I understand. After you teach the basics, you need to practice them separately, otherwise they'll never grow." Yu Dawei had actually taken good care of Huang Man before, mostly because of Huang Fengcang, the big boss. But as they spent more time together, Huang Man's obedience, honesty, straightforwardness, and lack of malice all pleased Yu Dawei.

Huang Man, who is two years younger than him, is more like a little brother who is only about the age of junior high school, with a simple mind and a tendency to let things take their course.

Although it is very difficult to cultivate, once it grows up, it will become an invincible sword.

Yu Dawei is also willing to put in the effort to cultivate him.

The two returned to the dormitory, the same room that Yao Jinfu had always lived in, except that there was an extra bed in the room.

Yu Dawei bought it when he first started repairing Ackerman; he gave his old bed to Huang Man.

Not long after, Huang Man returned with a watermelon. He first put the watermelon in cold water to cool it down before taking it out.

Yu Dawei originally wanted to invite Supervisor Chang along, but the other party was busy with construction site matters and had no time to spare, so he gave up on that idea.

The next day, around noon, Xiaobai arrived in a black Volkswagen. The trunk was full of boxes and boxes of spare parts, and there were two cans of gear oil on the seats.

Xiao Bai basically just put his things down and left, probably because the branch office had other things for him to do. This guy has been elusive lately.

Yu Dawei also didn't want to delay the car repair time, so he simply greeted Xiaobai and didn't joke around as usual.

The Ackerman excavator achieves twice the daily workload of other excavators, so delaying it even for a day is actually a way of delaying the project schedule.

The disassembly and replacement of the travel gears are very simple; just follow two principles.

First, it must be clean, extremely clean. If impurities, even insignificant particles, get into the gears, they can easily cause problems over time.

The second point is about changing the gear oil. Before changing it, you need to clean all the parts that the gear oil could have come into contact with, and then reinstall it. Do this on both sides, and finally add gear oil.

Yu Dawei disassembled the gear on the left side of the Ackerman, cleaned it thoroughly with gasoline, and then gently wiped away the gasoline and dirt with a clean cloth, as if polishing a rough jade, before installing it.

Finally, close the outer cover and begin disassembling the travel gear on the other side.

As Yu Dawei expected, the gear on the other side was also almost worn out. He decisively replaced the gear with a new one, repeated the installation process on the other side, and finally tightened each screw with a wrench.

After doing all that, he started applying gear oil with the driver.

The gear oil for the travel gear is easy to apply. There are three screw holes on the outer cover of the travel motor: one is a vent hole, one is an inspection hole, and the other is an oil drain hole.

Leave the drain hole aside and ignore it. Open the inspection hole and the vent hole.

Then insert a tube into the top vent hole, place a funnel on top, and pour in gear oil until gear oil comes out of the observation hole. Then you can stop adding oil.

Never fill the gear oil tank completely, otherwise the repair will be pointless.

Yu Dawei wasn't sure if the driver next to him knew how to change gear oil, but he patiently gave him a few instructions anyway. After all, if it was time to change the gear oil and he wasn't there, the driver could definitely handle it himself if he knew how.

Take Yao Jinfu for example. Ever since he took over that old Hitachi machine, he hasn't had to worry about things like adding grease or changing gear oil.

For an axe, these are all basic operations.

After resolving the issue with the drive gears, Yu Dawei got into Ackerman's cab to prepare for a test drive.

When the machine started, Second Uncle and Supervisor Chang happened to pass by and stopped to see what state Ackerman would be in after Yu Dawei finished repairing it.

Yu Dawei started to pull the gear lever, and Ackerman's heavy body began to move slowly forward. Then, under Yu Dawei's control, the throttle was increased, and the speed of movement began to increase.

Forward, backward, keep trying. If this Ackerman was a cripple with a broken leg before, now it's completely transformed, tumbling around like a rocket.

Under Dawei's skillful maneuvering, the small mounds in front of them were easily rolled over without any problem.

"All done!" Yu Dawei drove the Ackerman back to its original position, smiled and said this to the people below, then turned around and began to pack up the tools.

After being away for several days, I can finally go home.
