Chapter 381 1. Nokin
Chapter 381 A Promise Worth a Thousand Pieces of Gold (Part Two)
Bruno struggled back home and pushed open the dilapidated door with all his might.
"Are you injured?" Caesar sat on the edge of the bed. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating his long, golden hair. His handsome face, like a Greek sculpture, looked like a solemn Buddha statue in a temple, overlooking the world from above, bathed in soft light.
"It's not serious, cough cough. I'm used to it." Bruno leaned on the table as he sat down, wincing in pain. "I have something more important to tell you."
At this moment, Caesar was stunned when he saw Bruno's disheveled appearance: "Why are you in such a sorry state?"
"These things are not important."
Bruno clutched his abdomen, took a deep breath, and suppressed the excruciating pain from his broken ribs.
From Bruno's expression, Caesar sensed a tense atmosphere. After a moment's thought, he guessed the reason and said calmly, "Has someone discovered me?"
"How did you know?" Bruno had barely asked the question when he realized he'd asked a stupid one. He shook his head and said, "Never mind, you people are too mysterious. I shouldn't have asked. I saw a few men in black suits on the street, and my gut feeling told me they were looking for you."
"They found you?"
Caesar frowned slightly and glanced at Bruno, whose clothes were disheveled and dirty, indicating that he had rushed back.
"Well, it's okay, I fooled them."
Bruno forced a smile and said, "Those people won't expect this. You...you hurry up and leave. I'll draw you a map. Go to the port and find a man named Abbacchio. He'll take care of getting you out. Don't waste any time."
As he spoke, he took out a piece of paper, scribbled on it, and at the same time took off his necklace, folded it up, wrapped it up, and handed it to Caesar.
Caesar hesitated for a moment, then reached out and took the wrapped map and necklace, asking hesitantly, "If I leave, what will happen to you?"
"Don't worry, I'm fine."
Bruno chuckled and patted his chest, saying, "Once you leave, I'll immediately move to another place. Those guys' target is you; they won't care about a small-time hoodlum like me."
Hearing this, Caesar was relieved and nodded, saying, "Very well, thank you for these past few days, Bruno Frigo. If... if I survive this time, I, Caesar, promise you that I will repay your kindness in the future!"
"Ha, alright then, I'll have to wait." Bruno laughed, opened his arms and hugged Caesar, patting him on the back: "Let's go, don't delay!"
Knowing that time was of the essence and that staying there would be dangerous, Caesar did not hesitate any longer, said goodbye, and disappeared into the alley.
After watching Caesar leave, Bruno turned around and, despite the pain, hurriedly began cleaning the house, mainly removing traces of Caesar and discarded bandages.
Just then, my heart started pounding again for no reason, but this time it was much stronger.
It felt as if something was stirring within me, and an ancient, solemn voice echoed in my mind, as if calling out to something terrifying.
Bruno accidentally knocked something to the ground, stumbled to the drawer, took out a mirror, and stared intently at its surface.
His face was reflected in the mirror, but unlike usual, his veins and blood vessels bulged, and his expression looked extremely ferocious. But what terrified Bruno even more was that his eyes were tinged with gold, like scorching lava, exuding an indescribable aura of savagery.
"What is this?!"
Bruno couldn't understand why he had become like this.
But his cautious intuition, cultivated since childhood, seemed to be subtly telling him that those golden pupils revealed a strong sense of foreboding.
"No, we have to leave as soon as possible!" Bruno was very uneasy, his heart was pounding, and he felt that some danger was approaching.
After cleaning up everything related to Caesar, he pulled out a few banknotes from under the bed, then hurriedly pushed open the door and rushed off in the opposite direction from Caesar.
Having grown up in this slum, Bruno had offended many important figures, so it was impossible for him to have only one place to live.
This also gave him the confidence that even if those people discovered him afterward, he could still evade their pursuit.
Who would go to great lengths to find a thief?
With this thought in mind, Bruno, suppressing the pounding in his heart, weaved through the alleyways, leaning against the wall for support. The slum's roads were a maze, crisscrossing and confusing; even an outsider who stumbled in would find it difficult to find the right exit, let alone look for someone.
Arriving at a room, Bruno looked around to make sure no one was there, then knocked on the door and whispered, "Charles, it's me, Bruno."
However, there was no sound coming from inside the door.
"Isn't he here?" Bruno frowned and tried knocking on the door again. "Charles, I know you're in there. Don't play dead!"
But there was still no sound from the room. After thinking it over, Bruno finally decided to go in and take a look.
But when he pushed open the door, what came into view was Charles, lying stiffly in a pool of blood, his eyes wide open, his gray eyes seemingly telling a story of deep resentment.
"Charles?!"
Bruno's face turned pale, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
Just then, he clearly saw three pairs of golden pupils suddenly light up in the dark corner of the room, like scorching lava, exuding an indescribable aura of majesty.
"Bruno Frigo, born on August 17, 1996, in the Spanish Quarter south of Naples, is the son of a prostitute named Vol. He has lived alone since he was seven years old. He is skilled at stealing and was once a member of the Mafia, but the gang disbanded after the leader died. Now he makes a living by stealing and fraud. Am I right?"
In the darkness, a person with gleaming golden eyes gradually emerged, holding several sheets of paper in his hand, staring at him with a cold and sinister expression.
"Is it you?!"
Bruno's heart nearly stopped, and his pupils slowly dilated. The man was none other than the one who had kicked him in the street not long ago.
"Let me introduce myself, my name is Damon Gattuso."
The young man threw the paper on the ground, his chilling killing intent almost tangible, his eyes cold and indifferent: "Bruno Frigo, although you have deceived us, I can give you a chance. Tell me Caesar's whereabouts, and I can forgive your deception and give you a satisfactory reward."
"Caesar?" Bruno's expression froze instantly, his heart raced, and cold sweat trickled down his temples. "I don't know, sir. I don't know any Caesar."
boom!
The figures in front of me instantly became blurry.
Immediately afterward, Bruno, without seeing anything clearly, was sent flying backward uncontrollably as if hit by a cannonball, crashing heavily into the wall.
"Wow!"
Bruno spat out a mouthful of blood and felt excruciating pain all over his body, as if his internal organs were about to shatter.
Damon slowly walked over, placed one foot on Bruno's chest, lowered his cold gaze with his golden eyes, and said calmly, "Think it through before you answer my question."
"Cough cough, sir, I really don't know." Bruno was being stepped on the chest, feeling as if a huge boulder was pressing down on him, and he could hardly breathe. He said with difficulty, "Please, spare me. I'm really just a small-time hoodlum. I really don't know anything about Caesar."
Click!
Damon stomped down, and the sound of breaking ribs echoed.
"what!"
Bruno's mouth was bleeding, his face contorted in pain, and his cheeks were flushed red and purple from lack of oxygen.
“Bruno Frigo, I have no interest in playing these little tricks with you.” Damon twisted his foot back and forth, applying increasing force, the cruel and savage look in his golden eyes growing stronger: “You’re wondering how we found you, aren’t you?”
Bruno couldn't speak; his head was buzzing, and he felt like he was suffocating.
"It's simple, because you...have come into contact with his blood!"
Damon slowly leaned down, staring at him with a cold gaze, and said, "See these eyes? This is the mark of a hybrid. Those with dragon blood in their veins will develop 'golden eyes' once they awaken. And you, a piece of trash like you, also have golden eyes."
