Reborn as a great painter, with a system, you can be willful

Chapter 687: Observing the original and creating a sketch

The world-famous Sistine Chapel attracts many tourists to visit.

While admiring the ceiling painting, Jiang Zhe listened to Francesca explaining some interesting stories in art history.

He recalled seeing statues of Michelangelo and Raphael side by side on the gate of the Vatican Museum.

I wonder how Michelangelo would feel if he knew this.

After learning about the creation process of the ceiling painting from all aspects, Jiang Zhe really wanted to know what kind of psychological process Michelangelo went through in the process of completing this work.

He looked up again and looked at the theme on the ceiling - Genesis.

There is a fence inside the church that divides the area where people can stand into two parts.

Francesca said that this fence was already there before Michelangelo created the ceiling painting. Its function was to separate ordinary believers from clergy.

Ordinary people at that time were not qualified to pass through this fence.

Now, tourists can walk around on both sides when visiting.

Jiang Zhe stood in the space originally reserved for clergy, which was the more spacious side. He looked up at the ceiling painting and discovered that the picture in front of him was full of miracles, the creation of light, the sun and the moon, and all things in the world.

He walked to the side of the civilians and looked up. The pictures he was facing were all about disasters, being expelled from Eden, the flood, and so on.

Jiang Zhe was very curious whether Michelangelo had arranged this on purpose. Of course, he did not ask Francesca, after all, this was a church, and some things were better left unsaid.

However, he felt that Michelangelo was very bold. In the painting, he painted himself as a human skin (with a very lifelike appearance), and the person holding his skin was the Pope at that time.

Jiang Zhe sighed that a genius artist definitely has an extraordinary personality.

In addition to Michelangelo's works, the Sistine Chapel also houses many other exquisite works of art.

Jiang Zhe didn't want to miss any opportunity to observe. He let the system record as much as possible and felt it up close, hoping to find inspiration and break through his current state.

The time for observation was repeatedly delayed.

After viewing the Sistine Chapel’s artwork, Francesca took Kang Cheol back to the entrance to view three works that are often overlooked: one by Van Gogh, one by Caravaggio, and one by Raphael.

Jiang Zhe viewed all the works on display and bought more. Not only that, he also went out of his way to experience the stairs that Michelangelo often walked on, and spent a little money for it.

Francesca helped Jiang Zhe make the contact and accompanied him to experience the steps that the master had taken.

Jiang Zhe walked slowly on the stairs, trying to make contact as much as possible, imagining the scene when Michelangelo passed by here, and also hoping to trigger a reward.

Unfortunately, I didn’t hear the reminder sound until the tour was over.

Today, it is too late to visit the cathedral.

However, Jiang Zhe arranged plenty of time.

He invited Francesca to dinner to express his gratitude.

While enjoying delicious food in a restaurant, Francesca asked, "I saw you bought some painting supplies when you came back. Do you want to sketch here?"

There is also an Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, so it is very convenient to buy painting supplies.

Jiang Zhe said, "I've heard you tell a lot of stories about great artists during the Renaissance, and I really want to paint some works that depict their stories."

"Really? Many painters have created these themes. I would like to see what the effect would be if you created them. What do you want to paint?" Francesca asked.

Jiang Zhe put down his wine glass and said slowly, "The initial subject matter I thought of was the scene of Michelangelo painting and his argument with Raphael on the restoration of the stone sculpture."

Francesca smiled and said, "I have some relevant information that I can give you. I hope it will be helpful to you. However, you have to wait a while. I will send you the information after I return to Venice."

"Thank you very much." After dinner, the two of them rested and agreed to visit the cathedral tomorrow morning. Jiang Zhe returned to his room and talked to his family and friends on the phone. He then used watercolors and sketches to record his gains and ideas for the day.

Although today's visit did not trigger any new tasks or rewards, he was still very touched.

The inspiration you get from observing the original work up close cannot be compared to that from looking at a print.

He first reproduced some of his insights with his brush, and then began to depict his ideas about the creative scenes of several masters.

During today's visit, he collected a lot of materials, but when he was creating the draft, he was not influenced by the works of his predecessors. Instead, he used his own imagination to depict several art masters and attractive supporting characters, scenes, etc.

On the table, more than a dozen short-term works gradually accumulated.

The next day, Jiang Zhe and Francesca set out for the cathedral early to reduce waiting time.

The two arrived early and only waited a short time before entering St. Petersburg Cathedral Square.

The first thing Jiang Zhe noticed was an obelisk standing in the square.

Francesca explained to Jiang Zhe that this obelisk witnessed the execution of St. Peter. It is said that this obelisk was built by the ancient Egyptians and was taken as a trophy by the ancient Romans.

She found that Jiang Zhe was not very interested in religious knowledge, so after she finished talking about St. Peter, she pointed to a row of sculptures on the roof of the front of the church and began to introduce them.

Jiang Zhe listened and observed at the same time. Because of the angle and distance, he could not see the details of the sculpture and could only see the general idea.

He noticed that there was no St. Peter among the sculptures on the roof.

The statue of St. Peter, on the other hand, stands in the square.

The two walked to the front of the gate.

Francesca pointed to a door and told Jiang Zhe that there were five doors in the church, and this door would be opened every 25 years. The last time it was opened was in 2000.

There are different routes to visit the church, and the two chose to see the artwork inside the church first.

Walking through the door and into the spacious interior, Jiang Zhe looked around and saw the white and gold marble and the refracted sunlight as the most common colors.

The exquisite decorations everywhere make the interior space exceptionally gorgeous. The designer also successfully created a sense of sacredness by using refracted light.

Jiang Zhe walked along the route, stopping and observing the interior decoration and

Francesca motioned for him to stop.

Jiang Zhe stopped and saw Francesca pointing at his feet and said, "Pay attention to this decoration."

Jiang Zhe looked down and found that the decorative stone slab under his feet was a liver-colored raw stone. "What's the meaning of this?"

"It's a very rare stone called porphyry, which the ancient Romans used to symbolize wealth and power," explained Frasisca.

As Jiang Zhe observed, he recalled the cultural relics he saw when he visited the Vatican Museum yesterday.

"Didn't we see a coffin made of this kind of stone yesterday?"

"Yes, this is exclusively for the Roman royal family," Francesca said.

Jiang Zhe felt that large pieces of neatly polished and smooth stone set on the ground might be a display of the Vatican's transcendence.

Francesca pointed to the front and said, "From this position, you can already see the three treasures of St. Peter's Basilica."
