Based on the course of the two cases, Liu Yong believed that they were committed by the same murderer, so he investigated the two cases together.

The task force began to carefully analyze the two cases and found that the two cases had the following similarities:
The victims were all single young women who came to Beijing from other places and posted rental advertisements in "Hand in Hand" looking for same-sex partners to share a house with.

The criminals would pretend to rent a house to meet the victims. After entering the house, they would strangle the victims with their own backpack straps, tie them up with white nylon ropes, and then rape them... and rob them of their belongings afterwards.

Liu Yong believed that there must be other similar cases, so the task force reported the case to the entire city and linked the cases together.

In order to save time, some police officers took advantage of their spouses' jobs in the telecommunications department to "abuse their power for personal gain" and conduct private investigations until an official letter from the Municipal Public Security Bureau was sent to the Municipal Telecommunications Bureau requesting cooperation in the investigation.

Finally, through screening one by one, it was determined that the card number had been used to contact the phone numbers left by more than 40 young women who had published their roommate information in the "Hand-to-Hand" newspaper.

Among them are three young female victims in the Fengtai March 3.22 case, the Fengtai March 3.14 case and the Fengtai March 3.31 case.

Therefore, the task force believed that the holder of the XXIC phone card was a major suspect in the crime.

Immediately, all the communication information of IC card No. XX was retrieved to find out who was using this IC card to contact the young woman who had placed a rental advertisement in "Hand in Hand".

We also located more than 30 IC card public telephones that had been used with this IC phone card one by one and analyzed the time when the calls were made.

It was found that most of the calls were made between 7 a.m. and 12 noon, and the IC card phones used were mostly located on both sides of Beiyuan Road and Anli Road in CY District. Among them, the two IC card phones at the intersection of Beiyuan Yangshan Village were the most frequently used.

Moreover, it was used in the morning, noon and evening. Therefore, the task force further narrowed the scope of investigation and determined that the suspect was most likely hiding in Yangshan Village.
