Chapter 1361, Chapter 1348: Reunion with Yang Bingcheng

The two guys, having done their bad deeds, had a wonderful sleep in the hotel.

We drove into the mountains early the next morning.

We drove along the winding mountain road for quite a while.

We finally arrived at a large mountain in the northern part of Tongzi County, in the mountains of northern Guizhou.

Yang Bingcheng had received the news early and was already waiting at the mountain pass.

Upon seeing Luo Yihang, he was incredibly enthusiastic, running up to greet him with hugs and handshakes, his mouth practically stretched to the back of his head in a wide grin.

"Brother Luo! Brother Luo! I'm so glad to see you! I've missed you so much!"

"Teacher Qi, thank you so much. It's kind of you to come all this way. You must have had a long journey."

The degree of intimacy is clearly expressed in these two sentences.

Luo Yihang took a half step back and looked Yang Bingcheng up and down.

But it's been a while since we last saw each other.

The last time I met Yang Bingcheng, he hadn't graduated yet.

He's a 24-year-old young man now.

I remember the first time I met Yang Bingcheng, he was short and thin, with frighteningly large dark circles under his eyes, and his face looked pale and malnourished. His body was severely overworked.

Aside from having fairly fair skin, he doesn't look like a young person at all.

lifeless.

Looking at it now, his height hasn't changed much; he's unlikely to grow any taller than 1.7 meters.

But he was by no means thin; he had gained at least two sizes and become a little chubby.

I still have dark circles under my eyes, and my eyes are bloodshot. I must not have slept well last night and stayed up late.

My skin has become darker and rougher.

The person who returned was indeed full of energy, sunny, cheerful, and vibrant.

"Not bad, that's good." Luo Yihang patted him on the shoulder, then asked, "How's work at Nonsheng? Are you comfortable there?"

Yang Bingcheng nodded emphatically, "Good, very good. General Manager Wang and Manager Xu have been very kind to me. I underwent three months of training in Qinghai, then returned to Deyang, where I studied technology for two more months before returning to Tongzi. I'm in charge of such a big project right after joining the company, and I feel a lot of pressure. But when I think about bringing prosperity to my fellow villagers, I feel full of energy. Anyway, I'm quite nervous, afraid of not doing a good job and letting you down..."

Yang Bingcheng couldn't wait to tell Luo Yihang all his experiences and insights from this period of time.

Luo Yihang listened with a smile, simply nodding.

After talking for a while, Yang Bingcheng suddenly realized, "Brother Luo, Teacher Qi, look at me, I've been talking for ages. It's getting chilly outside, let's hurry home. You must be tired too, go home and rest."

Although it's only August, it's already getting a bit cold in Tongzi Mountain.

It's a bit cloudy today, with the sky a uniform grayish-white. Fog is a frequent visitor to these mountains; the thin morning mist slowly rises from the valley and clings to the mountainside.

The wind was cool, carrying the damp scent of grass and trees, and a hint of the earthy sweetness.

The mountains in the distance are layered upon layered. The trees are clearly visible up close, while the distant ones are just a faint bluish-gray that melts into the sky.

And nearby...

The three got into the car and continued driving.

Before long, they arrived at the village where Yang Bingcheng lived.

The mountain village is still the same small mountain village it was back then, with terraced fields, winding paths, and high slopes.

Luo Yihang had traveled this road once. It used to be a dirt road, but now it has been paved with cement and widened considerably, allowing trucks to pass.

Streetlights were also installed on both sides.

The village was built against the mountain without any planning. They simply dug out a slightly flat piece of land along the roadside and built houses on it.

Last time I visited, the courtyard was mostly muddy with adobe walls and the roof was covered with gray tiles, many of which were peeling off.

A poor, remote mountain village.

Looking at it now, wow, it's completely different.

The open space in front of the house was paved with cement, smoothed out, and swept clean.

The houses all have red brick walls, large eaves, and tall, pointed roofs covered with black tiles.

Strings of chili peppers and mushrooms were drying under the eaves.

Red and black are festive colors.

It seems that red and black color schemes are popular here.

The large eaves and pointed roof are because there is a lot of rain in this area.

Therefore, there were no grain stacks commonly seen in northern China in the courtyard.

Yang Bingcheng said that the granaries were all built inside the buildings.

Several families have also built two-story houses.

There were cars parked at the entrance.

What a vibrant and thriving mountain village!

Yang Bingcheng's house is located in the middle of the village.

Their house was also expanded, with a two-story building constructed of red bricks and black tiles. The eaves were covered with drying chili peppers, creating a festive red hue.

A Wuling minivan was parked at the entrance.

I ran into an acquaintance again.

It can carry both people and goods; a must-have for mountain villages.

I saw the car approaching from afar.

Yang Bingcheng and his entire family came out to greet them.

The car had just been parked.

Yang Bingcheng's father rushed over and tried to shake hands with Luo Yihang through the car window.

"My benefactor, my benefactor! We've been waiting for you! Thank you, thank you, thank you..."

The old man didn't say anything, he just kept thanking her, and tears welled up in his eyes as he spoke.

Luo Yihang quickly got out of the car, took Yang's father's hand, and said with a smile, "Uncle Yang, how are you? You must be in good health. You look very strong. Can you carry two hundred catties of grain home?"

A little joke made Yang's father laugh again, and he grinned and said, "Yes, yes, I can carry 250 pounds."

"Wow, impressive!" Luo Yihang gave a thumbs-up in praise.

The old man smiled even more broadly.

The last time I saw Yang's father, the old man was short and thin, his back was bent, his hair was gray and blue, showing signs of vicissitude, and wrinkles covered the corners of his eyes.

He looks like he's in his sixties even though he's in his forties or fifties.

Looking at him today, his back is still a little hunched, but his body is stronger, the wrinkles around his eyes have faded, and his hair is freshly styled with oil, making it jet black and shiny.

He looked at least twenty years younger and transformed back into a robust farmer.

In the prime of life.

"Don't talk nonsense. Two hundred pounds? You'd be panting if you carried a hundred pounds." A clear voice came from behind.

Yang's mother also came over and gave a good rant.

Luo Yihang released Yang's father, turned to the side and smiled broadly, "Oh, Aunt Yang, you can walk now, come on, take a few more steps so I can take a look."

Mother Yang laughed heartily and actually walked around the yard again.

He walked along, laughing as he went. "Look, Mr. Luo, you're walking so briskly, you can even go up the mountain without any problem. I picked some mushrooms in the forest this morning, and I'll stir-fry some cured pork for you at noon. This year's cured pork is especially good." He was walking quite well, showing no signs of the fact that he was bedridden and unable to get out of bed just a few years ago.

His complexion has also improved; he went from looking sickly, withered, and thin to being plump and radiant.

He no longer has shortness of breath when he speaks; he can say such a long string of words without stammering at all, and his voice is quite loud.

People who live in the mountains have loud voices, and it's good to have a loud voice.

The Yang family members were all grinning and laughing happily.

So happy.

They were happy whenever they saw this scene.

Luo Yihang clapped and cheered, "Then I'm in for a treat! Make more, the more the better, I have a big appetite."

As soon as these words came out.

A little girl who had been hiding behind Yang Bingcheng suddenly darted into the house.

A while later, he came out carrying a large basin.

It ran around wildly in the basin, splashing water everywhere.

A basin full of live eels.

He took it out and put it on the ground, then darted behind Yang Bingcheng and hid there.

Quite shy.

Yang Bingcheng smiled and pulled her in front of him, introducing her to Luo Yihang: "Brother Luo, this is my sister Yang Anxiu. When she heard you were coming, she ran into the mountains all day yesterday and caught a basin of eels. She kept them in the basin to expel the mud overnight, thinking of cooking them for you."

Luo Yihang knew this little girl.

When Xiaoman No. 1 was first planted, she braved the scorching sun and torrential rain, recording the growth data of Xiaoman No. 1 pea shoots day by day.

This provides important original data for the trial planting of Xiaoman No. 1 pea pods in special areas such as mountainous and barren land.

After that, she recorded the data every day when the sugar-coated sweet potatoes were planted for trial.

Now, the Xiaoman solar term has become so prevalent that pea shoots have gone from being an expensive winter vegetable to being available all year round. They are everywhere in the market, sold in piles and piles of cheap goods.

Sugar-coated sweet potatoes have also entered supermarkets and farmers' markets across the country, reaching thousands of households.

In summer, we make sweet potato ice cream; in winter, we roast sweet potatoes; and now we use sugar-coated sweet potatoes everywhere.

Especially in winter, roasting sweet potatoes are set up on the streets, filling the streets with their aroma.

This little girl deserves some credit for all of this.

Luo Yihang squatted down with a smile and counted the eels in the basin. Wow, there were quite a few, more than twenty in total.

She gestured around, "These five fat ones are for braised eels; these five are for stir-frying with chili peppers, from the ones hanging under the eaves, I want the reddest one; these few are for garlic stew, we have garlic at home, right? It has to be fresh garlic, the crisp and fragrant kind; the rest are all for yellow stew, I saw some green garlic growing in the vegetable garden, I'll cut them into sections and sprinkle them in, so fragrant, so delicious~~"

Upon hearing that Luo Yihang hadn't refused and had even ordered food, they realized that Luo Yihang hadn't refused and had even ordered some dishes.

The little girl was overjoyed, her face beaming with happiness.

Luo Yihang stood up, smiled, and asked her, "Little sister, can you do all of these?"

The little girl shook her head.

Luo Yihang rolled up his sleeves. "Then watch me show you what I've got. Little sister, you can help me out."

"Mmm~~Mmm~~" The little girl smiled brightly and nodded repeatedly.
-
He greeted everyone.

Amidst the lively atmosphere, Yang Bingcheng's family escorted Luo Yihang and Qi Ruomu inside.

Sit down and rest.

The little girl, Yang Anxiu, was like a butterfly, busy making tea, getting dried fruit and snacks, and washing fruit.

They were constantly busy.

Luo Yihang would drink the tea as soon as it was served, peel the pine nuts and hazelnuts as soon as they were brought out, and eat the crisp pears and plums as soon as they were washed. He thought the plums were really good, so he asked the little girl to wash a few more.

They don't consider themselves outsiders at all.

The little girl was very happy.

The Yang family members were relieved and their expressions relaxed; they stopped calling each other their benefactors.

Drinking tea and chatting.

After exchanging a few casual words...

The conversation naturally turned to Yang Bingcheng's first project after returning to his hometown and joining Nongsheng Group.

The first achievement of Breeding 4.0's small-scale, high-quality, and specialized breeding program is the Qiuyan No. 16 potato variety, specifically designed and bred for wolf tooth potatoes.

"The first large-scale field trial planting of 'Autumn Goose No. 16' was conducted in the northern mountainous region of Tongzi County, Guizhou Province. Sowing dates were from March 22nd to March 29th, with an expected harvest period from September 1st to September 15th. Its planting characteristics and environmental adaptability include the following points..."

When they got down to business, Yang Bingcheng became very nervous, just like a student being called to the teacher's office to be checked on reciting a text.

He instinctively sat up straight, took out his notebook, and began to explain in a methodical manner.

According to Yang Bingcheng.

Tongzi County and the mountainous areas of northern Guizhou have a subtropical humid monsoon climate, but the altitude is high, averaging over 1000 meters. Summers are cool, with average August temperatures between 20-25℃, and winters are not severe.

The optimal temperature for potato growth is 15-25℃.

The Qiuyan No. 16 seedling is planted at the end of March and harvested in early September, with a growth cycle of about 150 days, which coincides perfectly with the local frost-free period.

Cool weather helps potatoes accumulate starch and pectin, especially the formation of amylose.

Low nighttime temperatures promote starch synthesis, making potatoes firmer.

Moreover, the mountainous areas of northern Guizhou have abundant and evenly distributed annual rainfall, keeping the soil moist but with good drainage.

The moisture content of Qiuyan No. 9 is moderate, so planting it here can make use of natural rainfall and prevent it from rotting due to waterlogging.

The high pectin content may also be related to a humid environment, as pectin helps potatoes maintain a water balance during growth.

In addition, the soil here is slightly acidic, with a pH of 5.5-6.5. Potatoes prefer a slightly acidic environment, which allows them to effectively absorb elements such as phosphorus and potassium, promoting the synthesis of starch and pectin.

Most importantly, the growth cycle of Qiuyan No. 16 coincides perfectly with the rotation time of local major crops, such as corn and rapeseed, which can make full use of land resources.

Potatoes are a traditional crop in the mountainous areas of Guizhou, and the locals have extensive experience in growing them.

Furthermore, the Qiuyan No. 16 variety has shallow buds and low loss, reducing waste during cutting and storage, making it particularly suitable for small-scale family planting or cooperative production...

"Qiuyan No. 16 is absolutely perfect for our area!" Yang Bingcheng exclaimed, slapping his thigh. "We've been growing potatoes here for decades, trying varieties like Baihua, Dahong, Qingshu No. 9, and Qianyu No. 8, but we've never grown such a comfortable one. It grows well, requires almost no care, and we only encountered a few problems during the trial planting period, which Teacher Qi solved as soon as he arrived. It's even better than the best Qianyu No. 8 we've grown before; it's practically a variety designed specifically for our Tongzi area..."

Actually, it should be the other way around.

Autumn Goose No. 16 was designed for Wolf Tooth Potato.

Why did Sichuan and Guizhou provinces invent the dish "wolf tooth potatoes"?
It's because the local potatoes are suitable.

Qiuyan-16 has taken this feature to the extreme and enhanced it.

As for Qianyu No. 8, one of the parent plants of Qiuyan No. 16 is Qianyu No. 8.

"How many acres were planted this time?" Luo Yihang asked again.

Yang Bingcheng immediately replied without even looking at his notebook, “Our village has planted 220 mu, and six nearby villages have planted 470 mu. All of these are at an altitude of over 1400 meters.”

“In Guancang Town and Chumi Town, 900 mu of land were planted in the river valleys and dam areas below 1100 meters; in Shixi Town and Shuibatang Town, 450 mu of land were planted in the warmer areas below 800 meters, totaling 2040 mu.”

"The experimental fields below 800 meters are also planned to be used for winter sowing after October, and the experimental area will be expanded to see how effective crop rotation is by using the harvested corn fields."

"If it's feasible, we can also have two harvests a year here."

In northern Guizhou, in the mountains, there are two harvests a year.

Yang Bingcheng, and his entire family, were visibly happy...
