The rise of a great power: starting with military industry

Chapter 671 Developing a nuclear submarine?

Chapter 671 Developing a nuclear submarine?
Liu Tao listened to his leader's words and secretly admired him.

This vision and ability are truly amazing and hit the nail on the head.

At present, China’s real shortcomings lie in the two areas of biotechnology and nuclear energy technology!
In terms of space technology, China has been very active in recent years. The number of satellites launched is second only to the United States and the Soviet Union. The number of satellites China has in space is also second only to the Soviet Union and the United States.

In terms of space technology exploration, China is also second only to the Soviet Union and the United States.

However, in some individual fields such as communication satellite technology and satellite positioning technology, China is at the forefront of the world.

Both the United States and the Soviet Union's satellite positioning technology are mainly used in military technology, while China's Beidou navigation system has already stood on two legs, with high accuracy and good stability.

It can be said that in terms of space technology exploration, China currently ranks third in the world, after the Soviet Union and the United States.

China’s real shortcomings at present are actually in the areas of biotechnology and nuclear energy technology.

Biotechnology refers to the technology that people use modern life sciences as a basis, combined with the scientific principles of other basic sciences, and use advanced scientific and technological means to transform organisms or process biological raw materials according to pre-designed designs to produce products needed by humans or achieve certain goals. Biotechnology is a technology that people use microorganisms, animals and plants to process material raw materials to provide products to serve society. It mainly includes fermentation technology and modern biotechnology.

It can be said that biotechnology is an emerging and comprehensive discipline.

Modern biotechnology integrates multidisciplinary technologies such as genetic engineering, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, embryology, immunology, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, informatics and computer science. It can be used to study the laws of life activities and improve the services of products to society.

The application areas of biotechnology include medical field, agricultural food, military technology, industrial applications, environmental protection, etc.

In the world, the countries with the strongest biotechnology are the United States and the Soviet Union.

As for nuclear energy, China is also far behind. Although China has mastered atomic bombs and hydrogen bombs and can build nuclear power plants, there is no doubt that in terms of nuclear energy technology, it is not even a little bit behind the United States and the Soviet Union. This can be seen from the level of China's nuclear power plants and the process of miniaturization of nuclear warheads.

The leader and Liu Tao discussed the development of science and technology in China. The leader was very concerned about this aspect, and Liu Tao was an authority in this area.

Before we knew it, the leader had started talking about nuclear submarines.

In terms of conventional submarines, China has the Type 039 submarine, which is enough because this new type of submarine is very advanced.

However, its performance in nuclear submarines is somewhat disappointing.

The development of Chinese nuclear submarines was relatively late. It was not until August 1974 that the first domestically designed and built attack nuclear submarine, the '8' attack nuclear submarine, was put into service. The '091' attack nuclear submarine is the first generation of attack nuclear submarines designed and built by my country. This type of nuclear submarine is about 091 meters long, about 108 meters wide, with an underwater displacement of about 11 tons, a standard maximum shallow depth of about 5000 meters, a maximum speed of about 300 knots, and a full complement of about 25 people.

In August 1983, the first domestically-made strategic nuclear submarine, the Type 8 strategic nuclear submarine, was put into service. This is the first generation of ballistic missile nuclear submarines designed and built by my country. The Type 092 nuclear submarine successfully launched a submarine-launched ballistic missile in 092, making China the fifth country in the world to have underwater nuclear strike force. It is an important part of China's "three-in-one" strategic nuclear counterattack force, and also a symbol of China's status as a world power. It is a national treasure. The submarine is 1988 meters long, 120 meters wide, with an underwater displacement of 10 tons, a standard maximum shallow depth of 6500 meters, a maximum speed of 300 knots, and a full complement of about 22 people.

Whether it is the Type 091 attack nuclear submarine or the Type 092 strategic nuclear submarine, they have lagged behind the world since their birth, and they only solved the problem of whether they existed or not.

Even though improvements were made later, using a five-axis machining center to process important parts and equipment, which reduced noise, the original design, coupled with the limited technical capabilities of the technical team, meant that China was always a step behind the other four countries in terms of nuclear submarines. Not to mention compared with the United States and the Soviet Union, there was a big gap even compared with the nuclear submarines of Britain and France.

He once asked the nuclear submarine design team, and they all said that it would take at least 20 years to develop a new type of nuclear submarine, and if Liu Tao developed it, it would be much faster.

"Comrade Liu Tao, we are far behind in nuclear submarines now. Can you develop an advanced nuclear submarine? After all, if we have an advanced nuclear submarine, the deterrent power will be greatly enhanced and our national security will be better ensured." The leader asked.

Liu Tao was stunned for a moment, then looked thoughtful.

After a while, Liu Tao nodded slightly: "The technical difficulty will not be too great. Some technologies need to be tackled, but the cost of nuclear submarines is not cheap. It costs a lot of money to use and maintain them every year."

"Money is not a problem. After it is built, the price will be determined and you can deduct the amount when you pay taxes at the end of the year. We need an advanced nuclear submarine." The leader waved his hand with a firm look on his face.

It is far from enough to have only advanced missile boats, frigates, destroyers, electronic reconnaissance ships and new conventional submarines. We also need advanced nuclear submarines. Advanced nuclear submarines are more deterrent and are the national treasure.

China still has a lot to make up for and a lot to do.

But no matter what, we need to have a few killer weapons as trump cards. These trump cards can really be used as killer weapons at critical moments and can really deter jackals, tigers and leopards.

Liu Tao thought about it. China now has a total of 5 'Type 091' attack nuclear submarines and 1 'Type 092' strategic nuclear submarine. To be honest, there is indeed a lack of deterrence.

The deterrent effect in this regard should indeed be enhanced.

Previously, he first developed the Type 039 conventional submarine, believing that the Type 039 conventional submarine was cheap and had advanced performance, making it very suitable for the Chinese Navy.

But even he did not expect that China would develop so fast. Now, it is necessary to add a trump card, which can be an advanced nuclear submarine.

Originally, Liu Tao thought that it would not be too late to develop the new nuclear submarine until after the millennium, but now it seems that it has to be developed earlier.

With his attainments in submarine technology, it is not difficult for him to develop an advanced nuclear submarine. After all, he has a golden finger.

The two then talked about nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, passenger planes, transport planes, early warning aircraft, and refueling aircraft.

Liu Tao also reported on the progress of the restart of the Y-10 project. If the Y-10 project is resolved, China will not only have its own passenger aircraft, but will also be able to develop transport aircraft based on it, and then transform the transport aircraft into early warning aircraft and refueling aircraft!

The leader listened very carefully. He had personally experienced the fall of the Y-10. Many people wrote to him at that time, but given the circumstances at the time, the Y-10 simply could not continue.

The leaders are very pleased to hear that the Y-10 has been reborn and made new progress after being taken over by Panshan Group.
