Chapter 7 The Judgment of Jigsaw

Chapter 7 The Judgment of Jigsaw

Chapter 7

The dim kerosene lamp illuminated the dirty little house, startling away a few mice.

John, the drunkard, stumbled upon a piece of bread, ate it, and collapsed onto the bed, quickly falling into a deep sleep.

However, John, the alcoholic, had just fallen asleep when he was suddenly woken up by the cold.

He felt sticky all over. In front of him was a safe with a candle and a tape recorder on top. His first thought was that he had been pranked by his drinking buddies, otherwise he couldn't explain why he was here.
John picked up the tape recorder, which was very different from the one he had seen in the store.

It was several times smaller than usual, and there were no inlay slots for the inlaid Blazing Shadow Ore that converted heat into electricity. If it weren't for the transparent casing that revealed the magnetic tape inside, he wouldn't have been able to tell that this little thing was a tape recorder.

John casually pressed a button, and when he pressed the first one, the tape recorder started playing the tape.

“John, you were born into an ordinary miner’s family. Your parents loved you dearly from a young age. They didn’t give you a wealthy life, but they never let you go hungry. They gave you the best life possible, buying you a house, finding you a job, and helping you get married and have children…”

"But you'll never be satisfied, you'll only ever complain, and eventually you'll become a heavy drinker..."

"When your parents were seriously ill, you were drunk and passed out on the street; when your wife and children were starving, you took the last of your family's money to buy alcohol at a tavern; when your child had a high fever, you stole the money your wife had borrowed to treat the child..."

"Let's see how much you can still love drinking when facing death..."

"You've been injected with a slow-acting poison. The antidote and the key to leave the secret room are in the safe. Your body is covered in a mixture of glue and alcohol. The floor is littered with broken bottles, one of which contains the safe's combination..."

"I've also prepared more candles for you among the glass shards. If I were you, I would use the candles carefully."

John put down the tape recorder in a daze, staring at the candles and matches on the safe, trembling all over.

He realized this wasn't a prank by his drinking buddies; no prankster would do something so dangerous.

As the candle burned slowly, John snapped out of his reverie and began to pick up the broken pieces of the bottle.

Because the candlelight illuminated only a limited area, and after searching through all the surrounding fragments without finding the password, he had to carefully carry the candle to search other places. However, with each step he took, his feet would be cut and bleed from the broken pieces of the bottle.

The ground was covered with broken bottles; some could be picked up, but most were still attached to the concrete.

So John could only walk on the broken glass, enduring the excruciating pain in his feet, constantly searching for the code and candle among the broken glass on the ground. Time seemed to have no meaning for John, but the increasingly painful stomach made him realize that the poison was taking his life.

John had lost track of how long he had been searching. His feet were bleeding from the constant injuries, which made him dizzy, sweaty, and weak. He even felt his consciousness becoming blurred and his breathing becoming labored. Finally, his hand trembled and he lost his grip on the candle. John was instantly ignited by the candle flame and turned into a human torch.

Amidst heart-wrenching screams, John rolled on the ground in pain, further exacerbating his injuries.

Although his entire body was on fire, the amount of glue and alcohol on his body was actually very small.

John didn't die instantly from the fire, but he was burned all over and couldn't control his body. His body was also covered with shards of broken bottles that kept oozing blood. In pain and despair, John was in a quiet, secluded room, and he could clearly feel his last drop of blood draining from his body.

When John woke up again, he was covered in cold sweat and rolled off the bed.

He felt as if he had a nightmare, but he couldn't remember the details of the nightmare after waking up.
As John struggled to recall the nightmare, he saw a bottle of liquor on the nearby table. Instinctively, he grabbed it and gulped down several mouthfuls to calm his nerves. However, the instant the liquor entered his mouth, burns and pus appeared all over John's body, along with shards of bottle embedded in his skin. At that moment, John finally remembered the nightmare, but he could only relive his death in despair.

At the same time, Rosen also saw John die in reality in front of the main computer.

What was originally just a nightmare experienced by the mind in a virtual spiritual realm turned into John dying in reality after waking up?

This made Rosen realize that the virtual realm was hiding secrets he had not yet discovered.

He immediately checked the performance of others in the virtual spirit realm. If the virtual spirit realm caused a large number of ordinary people who entered it to die in reality, then he had really messed up this time. Fortunately, after checking several people in a row, he felt relieved.

The virtual world of Saw offers two modes for ordinary people who enter it.

If the ordinary person who enters this world lives a good life and is neither a bad person, then upon waking up, it's like having a dream they can't remember.

However, for someone like John the Drunkard, they will undergo a spiritual test after leaving the virtual realm.

If John hadn't drunk those few sips of alcohol and had instead given up drinking altogether and become a good person, he wouldn't have experienced the harm in the virtual realm in reality. Instead, he would have experienced the despair, fear, and death in the virtual realm all over again.

This discovery reminded Rosen of the secrets behind the Saw series.

Jigsaw, the killer who committed a series of tragedies in Saw, was an old man who lost his family, was terminally ill, and attempted suicide but failed. He hated those he considered guilty or who did not cherish life, and then designed various challenges to stimulate their will to live.

Jigsaw leaves a way out in each level, allowing you to escape by paying a certain price.

Failure means death, which is the origin of the Saw series.

Therefore, people like John the Drunkard are naturally Jigsaw's favorite prey, and John the Drunkard's will to survive is obviously not strong enough, so the first thing he does after waking up from the nightmare is still to drink.

Finally, Jigsaw ignited the key and spirituality within John, turning his nightmare experiences into reality.

Rosen could sense that some of the 148,320 still images had already been permanently lost.

However, by opening the personal attributes icon on the main computer and then opening the Saw Virtual Realm to view its detailed attributes, the Virtual Realm had already grown faster than expected.

Clearly, people like John the Drunkard have had their spirituality and even their souls completely drained by the virtual spiritual realm.

Rosen initially felt a pang of reluctance as he looked at the main god's computer, after all, he hadn't expected the virtual spiritual realm to kill people.

However, he quickly adjusted his mindset. The key to his ability to adjust his mindset so quickly lies in the fact that during his time in this world, although he had obtained Little Rosen's memories, he was not Little Rosen and still felt very unfamiliar with this world.

To John, the drunkard, is in some ways no different from an NPC.

Moreover, he did not witness John the alcoholic die in person; he only saw John's death through a computer screen. He did not activate the immersive window mode of a virtual reality experience; he simply watched John's death as if it were a 2D movie.

That's why Rosen was able to quickly adjust his mindset; he even vaguely felt some kind of stimulation that made his heart race.

Last year I had COVID-19 and this year I have a cold. Fortunately, I have a lot of drafts saved up this year so I don't have to worry about updating. Right now, the heating in the north has been turned off, and it's the time when the temperature fluctuates between day and night. It's really important for everyone to pay attention to keeping warm!
