It’s a strange invasion, is it okay for me to fight back?
Chapter 566 Robber
Chapter 566 Robber
The return journey took only half an hour, and they encountered a caravan that was setting off again on the way.
Feng Ling was so curious that she couldn't help but ask Liu Xing, "How did your system manage to do that?"
Meteor replied calmly, "That's easy. Just like a theatrical performance, to ensure a smooth performance, there are always a few substitutes for the lead actor."
“I understand the logic, but these are living, breathing people,” Feng Ling still found it amazing. “Forty perfectly healthy people, dead one minute and alive the next!”
“It won’t take long to draw directly from the inventory,” Meteor said.
"What if the inventory runs out?" Feng Ling asked again.
“Then we’ll remanufacture it, using 3D printing technology. Bones, skin, and hair can all be printed out. Then we can input a program into the brain’s neural pathways, including knowledge, memories, and even individualized behavioral cognition. Everything can be realized, and it will eventually become what you call a living, breathing person,” Meteor replied calmly.
Feng Ling was astonished by this new technology. Then, her thoughts wandered, and she asked Liu Xing, "Since your technology is so advanced, you could just print out a bunch of people for players to kill for fun. Why come all the way to Earth to kill people?"
Meteor glanced at her. "Is there a difference?"
Feng Ling asked, "Is there no difference?"
Meteor curled her lip slightly and said indifferently, "From our perspective, there's no difference."
Feng Ling paused, then suddenly felt a chill run down her spine. "Hey! Could it be that humans on Earth were also 3D printed?!"
"Who knows?" Meteor said, then charged toward the scorpion not far away, ending the conversation.
Perhaps because they had already killed most of the scorpions along the way, the frequency of scorpion appearances decreased significantly during the second escort of the caravan. It wasn't until the caravan entered an area they hadn't traversed before that the number of scorpions began to increase.
While keeping an eye on the movement of the red dots in her field of vision, Feng Ling also observed the caravan's route.
After climbing a large slope, the terrain below becomes flat, with several sections of walls and pillars scattered on the flat ground, resembling some kind of ancient ruins.
Meteor ran over from the back of the caravan and said to Wind Feather, "There won't be any more scorpions after this slope. The area ahead is a plot trigger point where the entire caravan will turn into monsters. Be careful."
"Everyone?!" Feng Ling exclaimed in surprise. "All forty merchants have turned into monsters?"
"Yes." Meteor answered crisply and decisively, then turned and ran back to the back of the line, continuing to be wary of the scorpions that might appear at any moment.
"At least tell me what kind of monster it is!" Feng Ling shouted.
"Ghost! Immune to mental energy!" Meteor answered from afar.
Feng Ling was speechless. The best strategy to deal with a group of monsters was to release mental pressure to suppress them all and then kill them one by one, but these monsters were immune to mental power.
"This place has bad feng shui; it's bad luck for me," Feng Ling muttered to herself as she followed the caravan toward the ruins.
The atmosphere changed immediately upon arriving at the ruins.
The surroundings became eerily quiet, like walking into a graveyard. Footsteps and breathing sounds were amplified in the silence, adding to the unsettling atmosphere.
Feng Ling felt that many eyes were watching her from all directions, but when she looked around, she couldn't find anything amiss.
After most of the group entered the ruins area, a gentle breeze began to rise around them.
A very faint breeze, carrying fine grains of sand, approached the group, like the slight air currents stirred up by the hem of someone's clothes as they walked.
Feng Ling stared wide-eyed.
The air currents swirled past her feet, drifting towards the caravan. Merchants riding camels began to show signs of discomfort; some clutched their foreheads, some coughed, some covered their chests as if unable to breathe, and then one by one they collapsed from their camels.
More and more people fell unconscious, while those who remained conscious cried out in terror and knelt on the ground, desperately bowing towards the ruins. Feng Ling asked Liu Xing, who was walking over, "What are they shouting about?"
“They are begging the vengeful spirits to let them go,” Meteor replied. “Talking to NPCs at the oasis inn can give you clues about the plot. It is said that there is a group of greedy bandits in the desert. They will steal anything that catches their eye and take it back to their treasure vault. Even after they die, their greedy souls cannot rest and still linger near the desert ruins.”
As Meteor recounted his story, one by one, the unconscious people in the caravan got up from the ground, tore their upper clothes, drew their curved swords from their waists, and roared loudly, behaving in a very flamboyant manner.
"Kill them! They're possessed by vengeful spirits now, they're not human anymore!" Meteor said, and swung a claw fiercely at one of the merchants!
The cursed fangs instantly tore the opponent's skin open!
The vengeful spirit felt no pain. Even with a half-meter-long gash cut into its chest, it did not flinch and immediately raised its broadsword to slash at the meteor!
The meteor nimbly flashed past, circled behind the vengeful spirit, and leaped up! It jumped onto the spirit's back and slit its throat!
Her actions aroused a lot of hatred, and almost all the merchants possessed by vengeful spirits flocked over!
The merchant still had a human body, but his strength had increased several times over, as if he had instantly become a martial arts master, and he could wield his scimitar in a hundred different ways!
Since Feng Ling and Liu Xing were standing together, they naturally became their targets.
She flung out her tentacles, the flexible steel plates gleaming coldly, and with a swish, she reaped a bunch of heads!
"This won't kill me," Feng Ling complained.
The possessed merchant died, but the swirling sand around him indicated that the vengeful spirit was still alive.
Meteor replied, "Keep killing them, they're just appetizers!"
"I hope the main course won't disappoint me." Feng Ling stood casually in place, manipulating her tentacles to stab at the surrounding enemies, the blades flying up and down like cat's cradle.
The swarming robbers were dismembered by her like chopping vegetables, blood splattering everywhere.
The vengeful spirits roared in her ears, their howls as harsh and grating as the wind squeezing through a crack in the door.
Feng Ling covered her ears and continued killing.
More and more vengeful spirits gathered around, and the sandstorms grew stronger. The vengeful spirits in the game were invisible to the naked eye, but because of the wind and sand, their shapes could be vaguely seen—they were burly men who were taller and stronger than ordinary people!
Having lost the bodies they could possess, the vengeful spirits coalesced into one, becoming a massive whirlwind.
Just as Feng Ling thought they were about to make a move, the whirlwind suddenly fled!
They fled in the direction of the sandstorm!
Meteor immediately gave chase, shouting, "Hurry up! The bandits will hide in the treasure vault after their defeat! The messenger is hiding inside!"
Feng Ling was overjoyed, "My efforts weren't in vain!"
The whirlwind formed by vengeful spirits rushed into the sandstorm, carving out a windless path through it, with Feng Ling following behind, marveling at the spectacle.
They chased each other smoothly for eight hundred meters when a giant rock appeared ahead, larger and taller than any rock Feng Ling had seen in the desert before, like a mountain.
“There’s no way out,” Feng Ling said.
“No, we’ve arrived.” Meteor gripped the Cursed Fang, his expression turning cold and stern. “You’ll see the messenger soon.”
The vengeful spirits stopped in front of the mountain, shouting and yelling in unison!
In an instant, the earth shook violently! A crack appeared in the middle of the giant rock in front of us, opening to both sides like a door!
Feng Ling exclaimed in surprise, "There's actually a door here!"
“That’s right,” said Meteor. “As long as the robber shouts ‘Open Sesame’ here, the stone door will open.”
Feng Ling: "???!!!"
