Chapter 620 Can’t live anymore

Ling Feiran stood by the roadside as trucks loaded with various building materials drove past, their heavy tires kicking up clouds of dust.

She looked into the distance, where the construction site resembled a roaring monster, constantly emitting loud noises. The dark blue walls gradually took shape amidst the rumbling sounds, and further away, the coastline was blocked from view by the black walls.

The quarantine zone is gradually becoming a fortress.

Faced with the vast and magnificent project, Ling Feiran couldn't help but feel insignificant. All her petty feelings and love became insignificant, like the sand crushed under a tire—it existed, yet it was as if it didn't.

One question kept echoing in Ling Feiran's mind: Why am I, so insignificant, so weak, so meaningless, living?

"Feifei?" A car stopped in front of her, and Lin Pengpeng's face popped out of the window. "What are you doing here?"

Ling Feiran snapped out of her daze and looked at Lin Pengpeng, “…I want to go back to the dormitory. I took the wrong bus and I’m waiting for the shuttle bus back.”

"Then you'll have to wait a long time! Come on, get in the car, I'll give you a ride." Lin Pengpeng opened the back door.

Ling Feiran got into the car in a daze.

The car was filled with a murky smell of gasoline, sweat, and dust.

Lin Pengpeng's face still had some smudges, but she didn't care. She cheerfully said to Ling Feiran, "I just applied to be transferred to the transportation team and was on my way to the station to pick up a batch of high-precision instruments that had just arrived. I didn't expect to run into you. How have you been lately? I heard the inpatient department is so busy it's like it's about to take off!"

Ling Feiran nodded slowly, "Yes, I've been quite busy..."

Lin Pengpeng laughed and said, "Why are you looking so dazed? Haha! You must be so busy!"

Seeing her smile, Ling Feiran couldn't help but smile back.

A man's voice came through the walkie-talkie in the front of the car: "B12 team, B12 team, has the ground surveying instrument requested by the technical team been delivered?"

The driver replied, "Not yet, we'll arrive at the station in about twenty minutes."

"Twenty minutes?! Are you driving a car or a tortoise? Hurry up! Don't affect other people's efficiency!" The man's tone was arrogant. After cursing, he ended the call.

Lin Pengpeng's face showed disgust. "He's just a captain, look how arrogant he is. Humph, he'll get his comeuppance sooner or later!"

A member in the front row said sourly, "He's a star in the logistics department now, how can he not be arrogant?"

Lin Pengpeng turned slightly to the side and whispered in Ling Feiran's ear: "It's that guy who was talking about General Pei in the car last time. His name is Liu Han. He has a very foul mouth, but General Pei just happened to pick him. As soon as he joined the transport team, he became the captain. Now he is in charge of all the transport tasks for Group B."

Ling Feiran didn't quite remember the incident. Seeing Lin Pengpeng's indignant expression, she nodded in agreement without saying anything.

Lin Pengpeng, oblivious to Ling Feiran's unusual behavior, continued to complain to herself, "He's currently incredibly loyal to General Pei, bragging to everyone every day about how General Pei has a keen eye for talent. But let me tell you, I really can't stand his smug, arrogant face. He's so haughty! He came at the same time as us, what's there to be so cocky about..."

Ling Feiran's thoughts were scattered as she stared intently at Lin Pengpeng's face, feeling envious.

I envy Lin Pengpeng's vitality and her unwavering spirit. Even though her body is exhausted, her eyes still shine, and she is full of energy.

Unlike her, her heart seemed dead, her body had no strength, and even opening her mouth to speak felt tiring.

……

Lin Pengpeng originally wanted to take Ling Feiran back to her dormitory, but because Captain Liu was urging her, she had no choice but to take Ling Feiran to the train station instead.

"Feifei, wait here for me for a while. My team members and I are going to inspect the equipment, and then we'll go back to the quarantine area together."

Lin Pengpeng gave a quick explanation and left with the other two volunteers in the car.

Ling Feiran stood in the bustling train station, pedestrians passing by one after another, none stopping for her, as if she were invisible—

This is a natural thing, because nobody knows her.

However, for the lifeless Ling Feiran, any scene, any language or look seemed to easily tempt her to associate it with the negative.

Ling Feiran breathed heavily, the mental pressure feeling substantial as it weighed on her, making it difficult to breathe. She tried to recall Amir's flute playing, but it was like drinking poison to quench her thirst.

She is on the verge of death.

Her mind became increasingly hazy, and her steps became aimless. Unconsciously, she walked to the platform, where the railway tracks stretched into the distance, as if guiding her in the right direction.

Ling Feiran continued walking forward, leaving the platform and stepping onto the railway tracks.

The ground trembled, and a piercing siren blared in the wind.

Where am i?

What am I doing?
Ling Feiran stood blankly on the railway tracks, watching the train get closer and closer, but her mind was unable to process anything.

so tired...

So sad……

Why is this happening?

I don't know, I don't want to think about it anymore, anyway... I'll be free soon.

Ling Feiran stood motionless, like a puppet.

The train made a sharp, loud noise as it braked suddenly, and shouts of alarm came from the platform not far away.

Suddenly everything went black before her eyes, a gust of wind rushed past her ears, and she was swept into a broad embrace and lifted into the air! Then she landed heavily on the ground!

The man grabbed her and rolled her around on the ground several times, crashing into the safety netting beside the railway tracks. He finally stopped, propped himself up on his arms, and unceremoniously pulled her up from the ground!
"What are you doing?!" Han Xu roared.

His roar carried a psychological threat, which immediately startled Ling Feiran.

It was this sudden jolt that finally allowed Ling Feiran's sluggish brain to start functioning again.

"I..." She stared blankly at the man in front of her, "I think I was just...absent-minded..."

She didn't say she wanted to commit suicide.

In fact, she is currently in a state of utter confusion and has no idea what's wrong with her.

Han Xu gripped her hand like a vise, gritting his teeth as he said, "If the train hadn't started slowing down before entering the station, even a god couldn't save you! So many infected people outside the quarantine zone are desperately trying to survive, and what about you? You're desperately trying to die!!!"

Ling Feiran's eyes reddened; she cried after being scolded. "I didn't..."

"You'd better not have it!" Han Xu angrily shook off her arm, furious and disappointed in her.

He thought Ling Feiran had emerged from the shadows and started a new life, but seeing her attempt suicide today made him furious.

Ling Feiran then realized that the man who saved her only had half of his right arm, and his only intact left arm was covered in blood from top to bottom—his skin had been scraped by gravel when he rolled over. As for whether he had any other injuries, she didn't know.

Although she was scolded, the other person had saved her, so Ling Feiran stammered and said apologetically, "I'm sorry..."

Han Xu wasn't buying it. "The only person you've wronged is yourself."

He looked at the train and saw that it had successfully entered the station. His tense nerves relaxed slightly, and his gaze returned to Ling Feiran's face. After thinking for a few seconds, he took out his phone.

"Write this down, this is my number," Han Xu said. "If you encounter any difficulties in the future, you can contact me. There is no hurdle in this world that cannot be overcome. Don't always think about committing suicide."

"I didn't want to die..." Ling Feiran replied, but because she felt guilty, her voice was so weak that it was almost inaudible.

Han Xu had already walked away.
