Chapter 53 The Defenders

The original version of the Purple Man, Kilgrave, was a Yugoslav spy.

However, in Netflix's Marvel spin-off series, Purple Man is actually a British man named Kevin Thompson.

As a child, he suffered from a congenital degenerative neurological disease, which would normally cause brain death before the age of twelve.

So his parents, Albert and Louise, conducted a series of experiments on him in an attempt to save his life.

Kevin survived and gained the superpower to control people.

However, the long-term experiments also traumatized this guy, and he started to become abnormal.

So when he was 10 years old, he took control of his mother and made her burn half of her face with a scalding hot iron.

His parents were also terrified of the child, abandoned their son, and went into hiding.

After being abandoned, Kevin changed his name to Kilgrave and became a wanderer across the United States without a legal identity.

For ordinary people, this kind of homeless life is unbearable.

But Kilgrave lived a very comfortable life because of his ability to control people, and after realizing the power of his abilities, he began to completely let himself go and lived a life like "God" in the city.

Because of this ability, every time he controls someone to commit evil, he makes that person commit suicide to erase all traces of his existence.

This made it impossible for the police to detect the existence of this special person.

But knowing of this person's existence, these cases actually became a compass for finding him.

“These are a series of suspicious cases that Jarvis analyzed and compiled, which are suspected to involve Kilgrave. The most recent one is near Hell’s Kitchen… So I suspect that he is hiding in Hell’s Kitchen… After all, there is no better hiding place in the entire Manhattan than this neighborhood.” Levi distributed the documents to everyone.

The most important item was a map of the United States, covered with red dots and marked with dates.

The closest point in time is the one that Li Wei mentioned is very close to Hell's Kitchen.

Frank nodded in agreement upon hearing Li Wei's words.

When he first started taking revenge, he hid there, in a chaotic neighborhood, a terrible place for ordinary people.

However, for those who are capable, it is an excellent hiding place.

Tony looked at the map with a strange expression, and his gaze kept drifting towards Frank.

Frank wasn't too surprised by this, because he had thought of the same thing.

That's the "protagonist" of the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, the "Defenders," including the future Frank.

So, this "purple man" must have originally been an enemy of the "Defenders League"?
Judging from the description, this is indeed a rather troublesome guy.

But now...

“If the other side really does possess pheromone abilities, then it will be very troublesome. My research on the antidote has only just begun!” Melina said, frowning. “You don’t need to worry about that. Tony has developed an inhibitor, originally designed to counter the pheromones you’ve created. Frank tested it in Europe, and it worked very well. I’ll distribute it to you before the operation!” Levi replied. “Moreover, this inhibitor is an aerosol. Once sprayed, it has a wide effect, so we won’t have to worry about being controlled ourselves, nor will we have to worry about Kilgrave controlling others to cause us trouble.”

Melina looked at Tony upon hearing this, her eyes filled with surprise. It was one thing that someone else had developed something similar to pheromones, but Tony had even created an inhibitor.
"Once you understand the principle, isn't it easy to make inhibitors?" Tony shrugged proudly in the face of Melina's gaze. Verdun Circuit.

Melina was somewhat disheartened upon hearing this.

When she first heard of Tony Stark's genius, she was somewhat dismissive.

I think this guy just comes from a good family.

But now it seems that the other party is really powerful.

She used to think she was very valuable, but now it seems that's not the case.

"Don't be discouraged, Melina. After all, Tony's major isn't biology. In the future, the Alliance will still need you for biological matters!" Li Wei said upon seeing this.

Melina: You were very good at comforting me, but don't try to comfort me next time.

Even without a biology major, she can't compare. If she seriously studied biology, how would she possibly survive?
“If there are inhibitors, then there’s really nothing to worry about!” Melina sighed.

According to Levi, Kilgrave, without any superpowers, is just an ordinary person and easy to deal with.

“If that’s the case, then this task is indeed simple!” Natasha nodded in agreement.

“That’s right. From that perspective, the mission isn’t that difficult. So, it should be enough for just the three of us: Melina, Frank, and me.” Li Wei nodded. The alliance’s lineup might not be considered luxurious yet, but sending the entire team to deal with a purple guy was really giving him too much credit.

"Then what should we do?" Levi's question startled Tony, Natasha, and Yelena.

“Of course you have other tasks. Natasha, go find her. This girl should be working as a street hero. I'll leave the task of persuading her to join the League to you!” Levi handed a document to Natasha.

"...You call a woman older than us a 'little girl'?" Natasha asked, her voice piercing as she looked at the age listed in the file.

Li Wei was stumped by the question; he had forgotten that he was only 19 years old, a year younger than Natasha, who was 20.

The person in the file is already 23 years old this year.

The person in the document was none other than Jessica Jones.

While Jarvis was searching for clues about the Purple Man, he was also asked to check on the whereabouts of the other members of the Defenders League.

The results showed that Daredevil Matt Murdoch had not yet graduated; he was still pursuing a master's degree and would be pursuing a doctorate next—because the legal profession in the United States is very competitive, requiring at least a master's degree, and a doctorate is indispensable to stand out in the industry.

Luke Cage? At this time, he was still called Carl Lucas, a street thug with no value whatsoever.

Finally, there's Jessica Jones, a recent college graduate who's just begun her "superhero" journey with great enthusiasm, and has given herself the strange nickname "Treasure Girl." She hasn't met Kilgrave yet—not surprising, since it's a full 11 years away from the timeline of Jessica Jones's series.

Jessica Jones is the only member of the Defenders that Levi considers worth recruiting, besides Frank, who has already been recruited.
