Chapter 809 08808: Shot
Chapter 809, 08:808: 'Shot'
"Louise! Shoot!"
Horatio's voice, like the blast of a gunshot, pierced through the deafening noise in the stadium.
He had just completed a textbook breakthrough, his body like a muscular spear ready to be unleashed, tearing apart the dense defenses of the legal department trainees with a series of rapid changes of direction and explosive acceleration.
Without the slightest hesitation, he precisely pushed the ball out with the inside of his right foot. The football, like a guided missile, slid along the artificial turf towards Louis, who was waiting in a support position.
Just as the tall female officer Louise was about to take a step, a dark shadow slid along the ground.
A legal department trainee snatched the ball from her feet with a fierce and precise sliding tackle.
Grass clippings and black rubber granules flew everywhere as the football slipped from her control.
Another legal department trainee had already taken action, like a predator taking over the ball, then turned and launched a lightning-fast counterattack against the Swift Skyhawks' vulnerable defense.
"Akkalade, catch!" the player with the ball shouted to his teammate on the flank as he sprinted forward.
The Swift Skyhawks' Rydos and Henry Harvey are rapidly closing in from both sides, forming a pincer attack.
Just as he was about to be captured, the student deftly flicked his ankle, using a series of dazzling feints to shift his balance, and then passed the ball across to Akaled, who was in a better position.
"Watch out! They're about to shoot!" Archie, a defender, shouted hoarsely, his voice almost drowned out by the deafening cheers from the field.
Fideo was short for a man, standing at only 1.65 meters tall. Despite his incredible speed, he was currently pinned down by two burly, mobile fortress-like bailiff trainees from the Ministry of Justice, unable to move.
David Beatty, the goalkeeper for the Swift Skyhawks, instantly realized that he was the only one he could rely on on the field.
The legal team member known as Akaled formed a two-pronged attack with another teammate, taking turns providing cover as they dribbled the ball straight toward the goal.
The two players exchanged short passes during their high-speed sprint, the ball moving rapidly between their feet, creating blurry afterimages that severely interfered with David Beatty's judgment.
The rest of the Swift Skyhawks were desperately trying to defend, but the enemy was already at the city gates.
Left? Or right? No, it's the left... Damn it! It's the right!
David Betty's mind was racing, and sweat dripped from his forehead.
When the ball is passed left and right in front of him, he must judge the opponent's final shooting direction in a flash and make a save in advance.
When the two players advanced to within 30 meters of the goal, Akaled suddenly raised his right leg high behind him, assuming a powerful shooting stance.
David Betty's nerves tensed instantly, and he prepared to dive to his left to make a save.
It's a fake move!
Horatio, who was just reaching a counterattack position, saw through the opponent's intentions.
The two players cooperated very well, but their eye contact lacked the reckless determination that comes with a shot.
This was a feint to draw the goalkeeper's attention.
Information overload caused David Beatty's judgment to momentarily falter.
He felt a surge of panic; his opponent's movements were faster than he could react.
"David Beatty! Remember what you learned in the bridge simulation training! Visual deception is the first step in tactics!"
The captain's roar was like a thunderbolt, piercing through the noise and clearly reaching his ears.
The sliver of wariness that had been lurking in his heart was instantly amplified. He forced himself to calm down, keenly noticing a subtle change in Akaled's footwork in the final fraction of a second.
The raised right foot did not unleash a powerful shot as expected, but instead, at the last moment, the instep was straightened, transforming the shot into a pass, gently pushing the ball forward.
This means that the other player will be able to deliver the fatal blow the moment the ball rolls in front of him, into the gap in the goal created by the feint.
David Betty's pupils contracted sharply.
He immediately abandoned his plan to lunge to the left, used his waist and abdomen to forcefully twist his center of gravity, and turned back in the opposite direction.
Just as another member of the legal team was assuming a shooting stance, he pushed off the ground with both legs, leaping to the right like a cannonball being launched.
boom!
The moment the ball rolled past Akala, another powerful kick struck the middle of the ball with tremendous force. The ball made a dull thud, transforming into a black and white streak of light, heading straight for the top right corner of the Swift Eagles' goal.
David Betty's face turned bright red from exerting maximum force.
He stretched his body to its limit, his left arm outstretched, using his body to meet the whistling football.
The soccer ball slammed into his left palm, the force of which sent a sharp, piercing pain through him.
The glove rubbed violently against the ball, producing a piercing sound, before the ball was bounced far away and flew high out of bounds.
"Ouch! It hurts!" David Betty fell heavily to the ground. He sat up and rubbed his thickly gloved left hand in pain, feeling as if his finger bones were about to break.
After the excruciating pain subsided slightly, he switched to his right hand, grabbed the soccer ball beside him with one hand, leaped up from the ground, and threw the ball far out towards the midfield with all his might.
"The tide has turned! Counterattack!" Horatio roared at his teammates who were already waiting in their designated positions.
The ball traced a high parabola through the air, passing over Horatio's head.
He seized the opportunity, leaned back, and used his right leg to swing upward, intercepting the ball in mid-air with an incredible bicycle kick, and then accurately passed it to Archie, who was not far away.
As soon as Archie brought the ball to a stop, he was immediately surrounded by three legal team members.
But he was agile and moved with incredible speed. He first used a nimble pull to change direction, dodging a defender's outstretched foot, then accelerated aggressively and used a smooth back turn to break free from the encirclement.
"Ledos!" Archie shouted, and unleashed a powerful right-footed shot.
boom!
The football bounced off the ground like a laser beam, flying straight towards Leidos diagonally in front of him.
Leidos lunged forward, using his strong chest to firmly control the ball, and sprinted forward with it before the opposing defender could react.
The situation on the field instantly reversed, turning into a protracted tug-of-war towards the legal forces' goal.
All the players were sprinting towards the right goal at full speed, and the stands erupted in thunderous cheers once again, the sound almost lifting the stadium's dome.
Horatio!
Just as he was about to be cornered by the opposing defender, Leidos shouted and kicked the ball high into the air with all his might.
Horatio had already sprinted to the edge of the opponent's penalty area.
His impressive height made him stand out from the crowd, and even if the opposing defenders jumped, they could not effectively interfere with him.
Horatio easily headed the ball, breaking through the last line of defense.
"Louise, here!" Instead of taking credit for himself, he passed the ball again to a teammate in a better position.
boom!
With a deafening roar, the football, as if struck by a warhammer, transformed into a whistling missile, hurtling straight toward Louise.
The tall female officer ran at full speed, her purple eyes reflecting the black and white spheres that magnified in her vision.
Every step she took was filled with power and the determination to shoot, with only one goal—to put the ball into the opponent's net.
boom!
Just as the ball was about to hit the ground, she executed a swift and powerful side volley, her right leg striking the ball like a steel whip.
The football traced a sharp arc, plummeting rapidly towards the goal.
The opposing goalkeeper gave it his all, leaping into the air, but the ball bounced violently on the grass in front of the goal, changing its angle and flying past his fingertips into the net.
Whoosh!
A sharp whistle pierced the air, signaling the end of the match. A moment of silence fell over the stands, followed by a deafening roar of cheers.
"It seems we have decided the winner!" came the excited voice of the commentator over the loudspeaker.
"Swift Eagles! Swift Eagles!"
On the planetary capital of the Gothic Sector, the air was filled with the sounds of people celebrating a grand occasion.
