Chapter 945, page 08.944: The Moment of Counterattack
"Our brethren are there! Grenadiers! For the Emperor, for Sintira, charge! Let these green scum taste the wrath of the Empire!"
Young and brave Brigadier General Jean Lannes marches forward alongside his soldiers.
As a young man of only twenty-eight or twenty-nine, he appeared exceptionally green, but by no means naive, standing in front of a group of bearded, battle-hardened veteran grenadiers.
His magnificent brigadier general uniform was now stained with the blood of his comrades and the green-skinned soldiers, and the golden sash was dyed a mottled dark red, like solidified honors.
The Greenskins were unusually enthusiastic in their resistance; nothing could excite them more than encountering a formidable opponent.
Using the labyrinthine alleyways and mountains of wreckage of the energy hub, they launched one reckless, cunning, yet equally deadly attack after another, greatly hindering the grenadiers' path to rescue the trapped dragoons.
Everywhere were burning, looted and modified "stolen cars" and truck wrecks. These twisted metal ruins not only hindered the advance of the Imperial armored forces, but also completely disrupted the grenadiers' proud and well-organized formation.
In such a harsh urban warfare environment, discipline and teamwork became the key to survival.
The grenadiers, working in squads, relied on their ingrained teamwork to engage in fierce firefights with the green-skinned soldiers hiding in the streets and alleys.
Among them, the combat engineers, wearing tall bearskin hats and heavy terracotta armor, stood out. These burly men also wore large fireproof leather aprons. They used promethium sprayers to spray deadly liquid flames at the constantly emerging green vehicles, turning the narrow passage into a sea of fire, while using power axes and explosives to clear away the vehicle wreckage blocking their way.
Under the cover of tanks, the soldiers advanced steadily, the fire web formed by laser beams and explosive shells tearing through the green tide time and time again.
But Brigadier General Rana remained extremely anxious.
Hundreds of meters away, through the flickering firelight and the billowing smoke, he could clearly see the scene atop the mountain of corpses.
A lithe female officer stands atop the mountain of corpses, battling the endless stream of green-skinned soldiers charging towards her.
With each flash of cold light from her gleaming silver blade, a green-skinned man was inevitably slain, rolling down the pile of corpses to become part of that terrifying fortress.
He could see that there were very few soldiers left around her, and that green wave was about to completely engulf the small, isolated island built of loyalty and flesh and blood.
After using his superb swordsmanship to cut off what was probably the twentieth head of the greenskins, Colonel Yadvig's sword-wielding arm began to tremble uncontrollably.
The ugly head rolled down the pile of corpses with its enormous body, making a dull thud.
Each breath she took was like a broken bellows being pulled, the hot air scorching her lungs, her red lips slightly parted from the lack of oxygen she was struggling to breathe, panting heavily.
His steps on the corpses became increasingly unsteady, as if he might lose his balance at any moment.
Finally, the greenskins felled the last guard in front of her.
The loyal soldier had his chest ripped open by a huge cleaver, and even in death, his eyes remained wide open in fury, as if he wished he could kill the alien before him with a look of hatred.
The next second, a green wave surged up.
Yadvi shouted, trying to squeeze out the last bit of power from his body with a roar.
Ping!
A piercing metallic clang.
The power saber in her hand was struck hard by a large machete wielded by a green-skinned brute. The overloaded energy field flickered unstablely twice before finally shutting down due to overload.
The immense force jolted the saber from her numb hand, sending it spinning through the air before it precisely pierced the head of a green-skinned beast charging at the front. The beast collapsed before it could even utter a wail.
clang!
The moment she lost her main weapon, she instinctively used the golden flagpole of her regimental flag to desperately block another fierce blow aimed at her waist and abdomen.
The flagpole trembled violently, and the enormous impact caused her entire arm to shake.
But she held on.
Facing an attack from at least five or six green-skinned soldiers, she displayed astonishing composure and skillful combat techniques.
Instead of engaging the enemy in front of her, she twisted her wrist and unexpectedly thrust the spear-like end of the flagpole at the third green-skinned creature, who was a little further away and seemingly out of her attack range.
Amidst the green-skinned creature's astonished screams, the sharp flagpole pierced its throat.
It rolled and fell, knocking down an even more ferocious companion behind it, temporarily creating a moment of respite for her.
The military flag in her hands quickly shifted from offense to defense, once again shielding her from a fatal blow.
But this time, it was just a feint by the green-skinned creature. Its hooked machete snagged the flagpole, and then it used all its brute force to forcefully press it down.
The flagpole bent under immense pressure and eventually flew out of my hands.
At the same time, another rusty machete, accompanied by a whistling sound, came crashing down towards the colonel's head.
She nimbly leaned back, narrowly dodging the attack.
But when she regained her footing, she found herself backed to the edge of a mountain of corpses, with no way to turn back. At this point, apart from a fragmentation grenade she had hidden on her person, she had no other equipment.
The leader of the green-skinned men grinned maliciously, pressing closer and closer, ready to chop off the head of this 'Waaagh' shrimp. The other green-skinned lads followed closely behind.
The encirclement is gradually shrinking.
Yadviga saw her brother, the young and valiant officer, leading his men forward.
But Green Man clearly wouldn't give her that kind of time.
She had nowhere to retreat and could only watch helplessly as her scattered soldiers were killed one by one.
This scene ignited an uncontrollable fire of shame and anger within her.
Was the downfall of a great knightly family really just due to the deaths of the Supreme King and the vast majority of the knights?
No.
It is destruction through concessions and compromises.
Will such concessions be made a second time?
no way.
Suddenly, the female colonel looked up sharply. She bit her lower lip, and the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.
She stared intently at the green creature in front of her, her gaze seemingly able to pierce the alien's filthy soul.
Ding!
She pulled the pin on the grenade with her teeth.
"Go to hell, you greenskins!"
boom!
Just as she was about to perish together with the enemy, a gauntlet covered in blue terracotta gripped her wrist like an iron clamp.
The grenade in the female colonel's hand was snatched away by a tremendous force in an instant.
The grenade was thrown like a cannonball, smashing the heads of two green-skinned men and the chest of one, before embedding itself deeply into the tangled, dark green flesh of the fourth green-skinned man, exploding with a bang.
A void-blue figure, blending seamlessly into the night, descended from the sky, emanating a faint blue light.
His body, subjected to immense acceleration and pressure, slammed into the pile of corpses with gritted teeth.
With a single punch, he smashed the forehead of the last green-skinned soldier who was approaching the female colonel, causing his bones to cave in, his brains to splatter, and turning him into a pile of flesh.
laugh! ——
Horatio's Holy Blood Chainsaw slashed with lightning speed, instantly clearing out the green-skinned creatures besieging the mountain of corpses. Several green-skinned creatures separated from their upper and lower bodies, turning into severed limbs that flew into the air.
A barrage of machetes was swung at Horatio, who parried with his arm armor, the sharp, rough, rusted blades leaving glaring scratches on his armor.
But he was fearless, his black cloak billowing behind him as he swung his sword in battle.
"The Empire still needs your contribution. Sintira needs new blood to bring about change, female citizen."
Horatio crashed into the greens like a reef.
He used his genetically enhanced body and the meticulously crafted armor of Lati to withstand the siege from all sides by the green-skinned enemies.
Sharp and blunt weapons struck his armor with a clang and sparks. The pain from the blunt force wounds fueled his rage even more fiercely. Streams of stored energy flashed from his iron-clad gauntlets.
"Take up your weapons and regroup!"
He shouted through gritted teeth, forcibly pulling the astonished and panting colonel back from her dazed state caused by exhaustion.
No sooner had he finished speaking than he swung his sword diagonally, cleaving the two green-skinned creatures that were trying to ambush him in two.
After dealing with the immediate threat to Colonel Yadvig, he finally had a chance to catch his breath and link up with Iron Hand.
"Wearable skill activated – 'Thunder Strike'. Effect: Consumes 3 energy points and 3 psionic energy to unleash 'Thunder Strike'. The gauntlet temporarily activates a disintegration field and releases the psionic energy stored within the Iron Hand, indiscriminately unleashing psionic lightning on all targets within a 10-meter radius."
"Shut up, you beast!" Horatio cursed through gritted teeth.
boom!
He leaped into the air, using the power module on the back of his armor to soar into the sky in front of him.
High in the air, far from his allies, the psionic lightning stored in his steel hand burst forth like a net of death descending from the sky.
