Ultraman: It turns out this is the easy mode.
Chapter 1025: The same old story applies here – nothing's normal at home.
In stark contrast to the chaos and turmoil within the alien world, life on Cui Ming's side continued as usual, without much turmoil. After the Kiranbo incident, he only spent half a day checking the weapon reserves with EDF technicians and replenishing some anti-dimensional ammunition. The rest of the time, he went about his business as usual, without any signs of being on edge just because he had just solved a major problem.
Cui Ming's family is in the same situation; those who need to go to work are going to work, and those who need to go to school are going to school.
Of course, going to school is something like Asuka going to visit the school.
During dinner, they would chat about the funny things that happened that day, but no one brought up the possibility of "alien beings lurking in the shadows." In Cui Ming's words, "There's no need to make yourself so tired; life goes on." Besides, even if they did encounter monsters or aliens, it wouldn't necessarily require his personal intervention—the GUTS members train every day, their equipment is upgraded faster than anyone else's, and the various EDF branches are on standby 24/7. These teams are not to be underestimated.
“If Ultraman or I have to do everything, then what’s the point of forming the Victory Team and EDF? Just to collect salaries for nothing?” Cui Ming would say this every time he had a meeting with his team members, and he did indeed entrust most of the tasks to them with confidence.
So in the Ultraman Tiga world, Cui Ming wasn't particularly busy, especially since many aliens and extradimensional beings were still cowering in fear and dared not show their faces. He spent even more time at home, often going into the kitchen to work on new recipes. One day he would stew pork ribs, the next day he would stir-fry some seasonal vegetables, and the aroma of his home's food would often waft to the neighbors' houses.
However, there's one person in the house whose behavior is really a bit outrageous—Misato Katsuragi. Ever since she temporarily stayed at Choi Myung's house and gradually got together with him, she's completely let loose at home. The extent of her letting loose has led Choi Myung to seriously suspect that she has a severe dependency disorder.
The more Cui Ming spent with Misato, the more suspicious he became: he seriously suspected that people from Misato and Asuka's world might have some kind of psychological problem.
Misato, needless to say, suffered from aphasia when she first came from that world, remaining as silent as a stone. After finally recovering, she developed a dependence on Choi Myung, bordering on addiction. During that time, the atmosphere at home became exceptionally ambiguous, the air thick with an unyielding, cloying sweetness, almost suffocating. Fortunately, neither of them needed to go out during that period, so the home remained in its "natural" state, unconcerned about others' opinions. But every time Choi Myung thought about it, his ears would still burn.
Then there's Asuka, this seemingly proud and strong-willed girl. Choi Myung gradually discovers the dependence hidden beneath her appearance. Her dependence on Choi Myung is not as straightforward and passionate as Misato's, but carries an almost obsessive obsession, just like when her mother was in trouble and needed someone to slap her hard to wake her up—Asuka also needs Choi Myung as an "anchor" to stabilize her seemingly hard shell.
On several occasions, when Asuka encountered problems she couldn't solve or fell into self-doubt, she would silently seek out Choi Myung. Even without saying anything, as long as Choi Myung was by her side, she could gradually calm down.
Thinking about it this way, Cui Ming couldn't help but start to wonder: when he really goes to Misato and Asuka's world in the future, will he have to face a bunch of people with psychological problems to varying degrees? As soon as this thought popped into his head, he couldn't help but feel a little headache, and even began to seriously consider "coping strategies"—should he prepare more bullets for the right people?
After all, he's used to fighting aliens and monsters, and his weapons are either large-caliber energy guns or cannonballs capable of blasting through monster scales—their power is astonishing. But when facing a group of people who might have psychological issues, those heavy weapons are obviously useless. You can't exactly fire cannons at people with mental problems, can you? If some unexpected situation arises, not having suitable equipment would be a real problem.
Cui Ming shook his head helplessly as he mentally calculated. He wasn't afraid of dealing with aliens and monsters; no matter how strong the enemies were, he could fight them head-on. But when it came to people's hearts and psychological issues, he felt somewhat helpless. After all, his expertise lay in combat, not psychological counseling. If he were to face a bunch of people with all sorts of "problems," he didn't know how much chaos he would cause. However, despite his thoughts, Cui Ming didn't really take "preparing ammunition" seriously; it was more of a self-deprecating joke. He knew in his heart that no matter what Misato and Asuka's world was like, no matter whether the people there had psychological problems, as long as he promised to go, he would be prepared—even if what he would have to learn wasn't how to use weapons, but how to understand and accompany them, he would do his best. After all, Misato and Asuka were people he wanted to protect.
But to be honest, Cui Ming was still a little apprehensive—he was really afraid that after he went to Misato and Asuka's original world, he would be unable to control his temper.
After all, Misato, Asuka, and even Asuka's mother Zeppelin, at least within his circle of acquaintances, were considered normal. But who knows if he'd encounter even more outrageous and abnormal "things" in that other world? It's impossible to say for sure, since the rules and environments of each world are vastly different, and risks always lurk in the unknown.
He was all too aware of the differences between different worlds. In the world of Ultraman Tiga, although there were monsters and aliens causing trouble, humanity was generally quite united, and the GUTS team cooperated well with various forces, without too much backstabbing and trouble. The same was true in the world of EDF, where everyone shared the same goal of protecting the Earth. Even if there were disagreements, they could be resolved openly, making it a model of "human peace."
The Ultraman world that Kamiri and Asuka come from is clearly different. Cui Ming had already gleaned clues from their occasional complaints—that such worlds are mostly characterized by "a lot of troublesome upper echelons." While there might be dedicated defense organizations on the surface to combat threats, various conflicts of interest lurk beneath the surface: some upper echelons hinder each other for power, delaying solutions despite their ability; others are blindly arrogant, either underestimating the threat of monsters and aliens or making absurd decisions in a panic when a crisis arrives.
Thinking about all this, Cui Ming couldn't help but frown. He couldn't stand internal strife. Normally, he dealt with aliens and monsters using strength and decisive methods, but in a world with a chaotic upper echelons and constant constraints, dealing with the troubles of his "own people" would likely consume most of his energy. If these internal problems delayed important matters and put Misato, Asuka, or other innocent people in danger, he feared he wouldn't be able to control his temper and would inevitably clash head-on with those inactive upper echelons.
Moreover, no one can say for sure whether, besides the problems at the top, there are other "abnormal" beings in that world—such as humans blinded by profit who collude with aliens, or individuals causing destruction due to various twisted mindsets. These people are more difficult to deal with than simple monsters. After all, monsters have straightforward goals, but the complexity of human nature is what's most troublesome.
Cui Ming wasn't afraid of trouble; he just didn't want to waste his energy on meaningless internal conflicts. The only thing he could do now was prepare himself mentally, telling himself to try his best to control himself once he got there, and not to lose his temper because of things he couldn't stand. But even so, he wasn't sure—if he encountered those unpleasant things that would make his blood pressure spike, whether his self-control would be enough was still unknown.
Forget it, if all else fails, we'll just solve it physically! (End of Chapter)
