Pokémon's Lord of Fear

Chapter 503: The Ending of the Shiki

After thinking about it, Teng Shu remembered a very classic work, which was the comic he had read when he was a child, Shiki.

Shikigami, this is a very magical comic, although it seems to be telling the story of vampires and humans, but in fact it also has some metaphors, and the final ending is relatively not so popular, or it can be said that the ending of this thing is very controversial.

In the original version of Shikigami, the ending was that the monk turned into a werewolf, and then left with the Shikigami leader, the one who caused all this, to wreak havoc in other places. This made a lot of people dissatisfied. After all, when the monk was a human, he was protecting the Shikigami, which made people feel very disgusted. Many people also had very controversial opinions about this issue and wanted to protest against it, and even tried to tamper with the ending, but the original author did not change it, so in the end the ending of Shikigami was completely fixed. I have to say, this is quite humorous.

Teng Shu himself didn't like this ending very much, so Teng Shu planned to change it.

Teng Shu touched his chin and said, "Anyway, this matter can be resolved by then, but maybe I can try to release a novel version of the corpse ghost to test everyone's reaction? After all, this thing is not suitable for being made into a movie. It is not bad for being made into a TV series, but the ending must be modified. If it is not modified, it will not pass the review at all."

Thinking of this, Teng Shu decided to change the final ending of the corpse ghost first.

The morning mist lingered in the fields of Waichang Village as usual, but today, there seemed to be an unusual smell in the mist. Under the old tree at the entrance of the village, Dr. Ozaki Toshio stood next to a bicycle covered in mud, his brows furrowed. The thin middle-aged doctor had not had a good rest for a week, and the series of strange deaths in the village made him feel uneasy. He took off his glasses, rubbed his tired eyes, and looked at the village shrouded in morning mist in the distance.

"It happens again." Minfu whispered to himself, holding a newly filled death certificate in his hand. The deceased was a young girl from the village named Qingshui Hui, only 18 years old. She was fine yesterday, but was found dead in her room this morning. Her face was pale, but her lips were unusually rosy, as if she had just drunk blood. What was even more strange was that there was a row of tiny bite marks on her neck, as if she had been bitten by a wild beast.

Minfu pushed his bicycle towards the center of the village. Along the way, he could see many villagers gathered in groups of three or four, talking in low voices. In recent months, more than a dozen similar deaths have occurred in the village. At first, everyone thought it was an epidemic, but as the death toll continued to increase, people began to feel scared. Minfu knew that these deaths could not be caused by ordinary diseases.

"Good morning, Dr. Ozaki," the staff at the village office greeted him.

"Good morning." Minfu forced a smile. "How is the situation?"

"Two more people died. Both happened last night." The clerk's voice was low. "The villagers began to get scared. Many people dared not go out."

Minfu nodded and quickened his pace. He needed to examine the body as soon as possible to find out the truth. However, he didn't know that this was just the beginning of the nightmare, and a greater terror was lurking in the shadows of the village, waiting for the moment to erupt.

When Toshio rushed to the morgue next to the village office, his assistant was already waiting there. The young girl's body was covered with a white sheet, lying on a simple wooden bed. Toshio took a deep breath and lifted the white sheet. Shimizu Hui's body lay there quietly, her pale skin covered with tiny purple spots, and the row of bite marks on her neck looked particularly strange in the morning light.

Minfu put on medical gloves and carefully examined the body. The bite marks were arranged in a semicircle, each wound was about five millimeters wide, with neat edges, as if bitten by some sharp teeth. What made Minfu even more uneasy was that the blood of the body was almost drained, but there was no obvious sign of blood loss around the wound.

“This is not right.” Min Fu muttered to himself, “If it was an animal bite, there should be tear marks, but these wounds are too neat. Also, there are no bruises around the wounds, which means that the victim may have been dead or unconscious when bitten.”

He carefully checked other parts of the body and found no signs of trauma or poisoning. Just as he was about to record the results of the inspection, the door of the morgue was suddenly pushed open and Muroi Shizunobu walked in. The only novelist in Soba Village was tall and thin, wearing black-framed glasses, and always gave people the impression of a weak scholar.

"Doctor Ozaki, I heard about Shimizu Kei." Shizuka's voice was low and worried. "Can you let me see her?"

Minfu hesitated for a moment and nodded: "Of course, but the situation is a bit strange."

Jingxin walked to the body and his face turned pale instantly. He stared at the bite marks on Qingshui Hui's neck, and a trace of fear flashed in his eyes. "This can't be the work of a wild beast." He whispered, "The bite marks are too neat, like human teeth."

Minfu looked at Jingxin in surprise: "You think so too? I have ruled out the possibility of an animal attack. What's even more strange is that the body has almost no blood loss, but the blood has been almost drained. This does not conform to any known medical phenomenon."

The two looked at each other in silence. A suffocating atmosphere of tension filled the morgue. Jing Xin suddenly remembered something: "Oh, the night before yesterday, when I passed by the Shimizu family, I saw the hearse of the Kirishiki family parked outside. The people of the Kirishiki family often move around at night, maybe..."

Toshio's eyes lit up: "You noticed it too? I'm also investigating the Kirishiki family. They just moved to the big house on the edge of the village last month, but they hardly interact with the villagers. What's even more strange is that their family cemetery is not an ordinary grave at all, it's more like "

"A temporary place to store corpses." Jingxin continued his words, his voice trembling a little.

Toshio took a deep breath. "We need more evidence. Jingxin, can you do me a favor? Investigate the family background of the people who died recently, especially whether they had any contact with the Kirishi family before they died."

Jing Xin nodded: "I will. But...how are you going to do it?"

"I need to perform an autopsy," Toshio decided. "Ordinary examinations can no longer explain these phenomena. We need a deeper understanding."

When night falls, Waichang Village is shrouded in darkness, with only a few dim street lights swaying in the wind. Dr. Minfu sits alone in the clinic's study, with thick medical books and notes spread out in front of him. He has been working for more than ten hours, but the case is becoming more and more confusing.

Suddenly, there was a light knock on the door of the clinic. Minfu raised his head alertly and saw a familiar figure standing outside the door through the window - it was his wife Kyoko. "What's the matter so late?" Minfu opened the door and asked in confusion.

Kyoko's face was pale, with an uneasy look in her eyes: "Ozaki, I... I feel like something is following me. Since the afternoon, I felt like someone was staring at me, but when I turned around, I saw nothing."

Minfu frowned: "You stay at home all day, how could someone follow you?"

“I don’t know either,” Kyoko said tremblingly, “but the feeling was very real, like something was watching me in the dark.”

Minfu patted his wife's shoulder soothingly: "Don't worry, maybe you are too nervous. I will go get you a cup of hot milk, you can go to bed early."

After sending his wife away, Minfu returned to the study, but Kyoko's words lingered in his mind. At this moment, the phone in the clinic suddenly rang. Minfu picked up the phone and heard the panicked voice of the assistant in the receiver: "Doctor! It's bad! Kyoko... She fell under the cherry tree in the yard, with bite marks on her neck, and the blood was almost drained!"

Toshio felt dizzy and almost dropped the phone in his hand. He stumbled out of the clinic and ran towards home. In the moonlight, he saw his wife lying quietly under the cherry tree, with the familiar bite marks on her neck looking particularly hideous in the moonlight. Like Shimizu Kei, Kyoko's blood was almost drained, but there was no obvious sign of blood loss around the wound.

"No, it's impossible." Minfu knelt beside his wife and said in a hoarse voice, "What on earth is this made of?"

At this moment, a cold wind blew, and Minfu seemed to see a white figure flashing through the woods in the distance. He stood up suddenly and ran after it, but the figure had already disappeared into the darkness.

The next morning, the village of Waiba fell into an unprecedented panic. The wife of doctor Ozaki Toshio died mysteriously, and the bite marks on the body were exactly the same as those of Shimizu Megumi. The news spread among the villagers like wildfire, and fear spread quickly like a plague.

The village office was packed with panicked villagers. The village chief stood on the podium and said in a trembling voice: "Dear villagers, we have contacted experts from the county and someone will come to investigate soon. Please stay calm and don't panic."

His words were drowned out by the discussion in the crowd. Minfu stood in the corner with a blank look in his eyes. He knew that the county doctors could not explain these phenomena because he himself could not understand what was happening. A terrible idea took shape in his mind: this might not be a natural phenomenon, but some kind of supernatural existence - like the legendary vampire or ghoul.

“Doctor Ozaki.” A familiar voice came from behind. Toshio turned around and saw Shizunobu standing there with a rare serious expression on his face. “I need to talk to you. I have new findings about the Kirishiki family.”

The two came to Shizuka's house. After closing the door, Shizuka lowered his voice and said, "I investigated the backgrounds of the villagers who died in the past three months. In addition to Shimizu Kei and Kyoko, there are at least seven people who had contact with the Kirishiki family before they died. The strangest thing is that they all lived on the edge of the village, close to the Kirishiki family."

Toshio clenched his fists. “This is definitely not a coincidence. I decided to go to Kirishi’s house tonight to find out what’s going on.”

Jing Xin hesitated: "It's too dangerous. If...if that's what you imagined, we may not be a match."

Toshio gave a bitter smile: "I have already lost my wife, and I don't want to lose more people. Tonight is a full moon, and according to legend, those things are most active on full moon nights. If there is really something wrong with the Kirishiki family, tonight is the best time to investigate."

Jing Xin pondered for a moment and finally nodded: "I will go with you. However, we need to prepare some things, such as garlic, cross and holy water."

That night, a full moon hung high in the sky, casting silver moonlight on every corner of Waichang Village. Toshio and Shizunobu, dressed in black, quietly moved towards the Kirishi family on the edge of the village. Under the moonlight, the Western-style house looked particularly eerie, with the black spire casting a long shadow under the moonlight.

"It's here." Minfu said softly, pointing to the back door of the house. The two approached cautiously and peeked in through the window. The house was dark, with only a faint moonlight coming in through the gaps in the curtains, casting mottled light and shadows on the floor.

Suddenly, a light sound of footsteps came from inside the house. Minfu and Jingxin held their breath and pressed against the wall. The door opened, and a figure in a white kimono appeared at the door. Under the moonlight, the figure's skin was extremely pale, almost as bloodless as porcelain. When it turned to face the window, Minfu and Jingxin both gasped - the face was as pale as paper, but the lips were strangely red, and the eyes were so dark that there was no reflection.

Minfu recognized this guy. He was a monk in the village and he always stayed in the temple. He looked very calm and posed no threat. But at this moment, Minfu was sure that this guy was the criminal who was harboring the corpse ghost!

When he thought of this, Toshio became very angry. He didn't expect that he just came to Kirifuki to investigate, but he found the real culprit.

However, Minfu did not rush out, but retreated quietly, then won over other people in the village. On the second day, he captured the monk and tortured him for the location of the corpse ghost leader. Then Minfu looked at the crazy monk and the corpse ghost leader who looked as pale as death, and revealed a sarcastic smile.

Minfu forced the mouth of the ghoul leader to face the monk, and roared madly, "Don't you sympathize with the ghouls? Then become a ghoul now and die with them!"

The surrounding villagers also made angry voices. People hated defection, especially traitors like monks. People didn't know what the other party's difficulties were, but when the other party chose to betray humans for the sake of corpse ghosts, he was no longer worthy of being a human being.

The monk was transformed. They were chained and their scapulae were pierced, making them unable to move. The next morning, the monk was put under the sun and burned to death by the flames. The cruel corpse ghost leader also cried and wailed, and finally died tragically. Before she died, she threw herself in front of the monk's body and merged with the monk's bones. However, people were still worried and continued to burn it with fire. This was considered a solution to the problem. (End of this chapter)
