Chapter 66: Dragon Horn
Chapter 66: Dragon Horn
"Quick! Turn the sail! Half sail! Break away! Don't let the dragon's flames burn this way!"
The strong hot wind and scalding rain woke up the captain of the Cedurian, Grolet, from his shock. He shouted to wake up the stunned sailors around him and asked them to quickly turn the sails and take advantage of the strong wind pressure from the pirate ship to break away from the merchant ship and the pirate ship that had collided with it and was burning fiercely.
Although the fire had not yet started on the bow of the pirate ship, the raging flames were concentrated on the rear deck hatch and the captain's room of the pirate's sloop.
But in any case, the best thing to do at the moment was to break contact with the pirate ship that was on fire and seemed to have lost power.
In the end, the thought of survival outweighed the shock of witnessing the dragon's flames. The sailors woke up after hearing Grole's shouts and hurried to turn the sails according to his orders.
The strong wind pressure generated by the huge fireball helped the merchant ship, and as the sails turned, half of the sails were spread out. Grolai turned the rudder cautiously, allowing the merchant ship to gradually break away from the pirate ship that had lost power and gradually move away.
But like Viserys who was circling in the air, the people on the boat did not dare to take it lightly. They had just witnessed terrifying tentacles leaping out of the sea, and the shock they brought to them was no less than that of the three-headed dragon flying in the sky.
In fact, many quick-witted people have secretly guessed that the reason why pirate ships can approach merchant ships silently in a storm is that the power source is not the oars or sails of the sailors on the ship, but the terrifying sea monsters lurking in the sea.
But Viserys flew around and around on the pirate ship, and could not find any trace of the tentacle monster except the inky black and turbulent sea.
The front deck of the powerless Tranquility was littered with pirate corpses, and the rear deck and captain's room were blown out with a huge hole after a close contact with the huge fireball falling from the sky. Viserys could see directly into the hull through the charred hole.
Viserys knew that the huge fireballs he could now release were not powerful enough to directly disintegrate a ship. With his current magical strength, his body would not be big enough after he turned into a dragon. He estimated that his wingspan was only six or seven meters, and his body was about the same size as a medium-sized truck on Earth.
Guliok is not known for his physique. The complete King Guliok is about the same size as the current merchant ship Saidullion. The ability to drive magic is the source of King Guliok's power.
The largest dragons in the world of ice and fire can be hundreds of meters long.
Viserys suspected that his mission of "becoming a real dragon" meant that when he collected enough dragon souls, his dragon body would gradually transform into a giant dragon, such as the dragon head changing from the big mouth and one eye of Guliok to a dragon-shaped head, or the weird and scary big belly turning into a slender physique, or even the body becoming larger.
However, Viserys did not think that having a bigger body was a good thing, because powerful magic did not depend on a strong body. A large body would have more advantages in physical combat, but he was essentially a magician.
Let’s get back to the present.
The destruction caused by the huge fireball was actually greater than Viserys had imagined.
There seemed to be some wildfire in the captain's cabin of the Serenity. As the fireball exploded, Viserys spotted some green flames erupting in the captain's cabin from high above.
After the magic dragon flame created by Viserys exploded with magic power, the remaining flames were actually no different from ordinary flames. The open flames without magic power would also be extinguished by rain, but the green flames that looked like wildfires persisted in the rain for a long time until the fuel that looked like wildfires was burned out and then they were completely extinguished by rain.
Only after confirming that there were no living people on the deck of the pirate ship and the sea monster had disappeared did Viserys fly back to the sky above the Cedurian and give orders.
His voice came from the air: "Captain Grole, don't rush away from the pirate ship, move closer. Try to signal the rowing boats and ask them to find a way to get closer to us!"
The merchant ship and the rowing boat were some distance apart, and visibility was extremely low at night and in the storm, but the fireball Viserys had just sent out was so dazzling in the night that they would definitely see it. Since Viserys had already transformed, he had to take over the three ships immediately to ensure that what he did here would not be leaked from his side in advance. Sailors usually couldn't control their mouths once they arrived on land, and Viserys didn't want even a little information to be leaked from these three ships before the merchant ship returned to the narrow sea and Viserys attacked Dragonstone.
Captain Grole looked up from the helm, trying to suppress his panic, looking at the vague figure on the back of the terrifying three-headed one-eyed dragon in the sky. He already understood the meaning behind Viserys's order.
Then, Viserys issued a second order: "Unsullied, listen up. Teams two, three, four, and five will try to board the pirate ship. Team six will support on the deck of the merchant ship. Red Flea, call on all your team to guard the door. No one is allowed to enter the room. Protect the young lady!" Viserys's powerful voice resounded in the sky, "Follow me to kill all the living people on the pirate ship! Kill them all!"
This is why Viserys demands absolute loyalty from his troops.
All the pirates on the Serenity deck had been burned to death by him. The previous fireball had burned a large hole in the ship, and the flames might have poured into the pirate cabin, but there was no guarantee that all the people inside had died, nor that the captain of the Serenity, Euron, had died under the fireball.
Viserys needed help cleaning up the mess he couldn't make when he turned into a dragon.
Viserys would not give it a chance until he was sure that the monster was still hiding in the sea, waiting for him to land.
Under Grolai's steering, the Cedurian slowly turned again and headed towards the pirate ship that had already pulled away. He was reluctant to actively approach the horror legend at sea, but looking at the three-headed dragon in the sky, he could not have the slightest resistance. The merchant ship and the pirate ship came into contact again, and the Unsullied soldiers were ready on the deck. They silently and resolutely carried out Viserys's orders.
Some sailors took the initiative to help, using the hooked planks commonly used in boarding battles to hook the side of the pirate ship and build a passage between the two ships. Some Unsullied also used the mast's boarding ropes to jump onto the pirate ship. The Unsullied have received training in sea combat. After all, as a "commodity", they need to meet the needs of various customers.
The Unsullied gathered on the front deck of the pirate ship, where the fire had been extinguished and only charred corpses were left on the ground and the ruins were blackened. Then they formed a fighting stance in an orderly manner and walked cautiously towards the huge hole on the rear deck.
The captain's room of the pirate ship had been completely destroyed in the explosion, and the hatch on the deck had been blown away without a trace. The Unsullied could only go down through the blown hole in the ship to get into the cabin.
Viserys circled in the air, watching the darkness in the pirate cabin. When the Unsullied tied ropes to the broken mast and prepared to use ropes to descend into the cabin, he spoke again: "If there are many people in the cabin, retreat first and report their location to me!"
If he found the pirates holding out somewhere, Viserys could use a fire ray to make a hole in the deck and then spit ordinary magical fire bombs into it.
But things went much more smoothly than expected. Viserys circled in the air and waited. After a few minutes, he did not receive any warning or request for support from the Unsullied. Instead, he waited until the Unsullied who had entered the cabin returned to the entrance of the cave with their oil lamps intact.
A captain who had gone deep into the cabin reported loudly to the sky from the bottom of the hole full of charred wooden boards: "My lord! We only found a few people in the cabin, and we killed them. But they used the crossbows in the warehouse to pierce the bottom of the ship, and the ship is about to sink into the sea. In addition, we found their treasury and armory. Do you need us to collect the spoils, my lord?"
"How long until the ship sinks?"
"I can't tell, your Excellency. The few holes I saw were leaking fast."
The reporter's voice sounded as if he was reporting a normal military intelligence, as if being on a sinking ship was not something to worry about.
"Did you find any dragon egg-shaped objects in the cabin?"
"No, my lord."
"Never mind the spoils," Viserys ordered them. "Get aboard. Return to the ships." These Unsullied were far more valuable than ordinary spoils or weapons.
"Yes, my lord."
The Unsullied climbed up the deck one by one along the ropes, gathered together and prepared to leave.
At this time, Viserys was about to fly away, but Daenerys on him suddenly patted his body cautiously and said to him: "Brother, can you hear me? Look at the cave entrance, the middle cabin on the second floor, there is something."
"Hmm?" Viserys turned his head back to look at Daenerys.
Her face flickered in the strange firelight emitted from the horns of Viserys's head, as if she was feeling uncomfortable with the heat from Viserys's dragon body. She looked a little listless, and was pointing in a direction.
The eyes on Viserys's other two heads looked in the direction Daenerys pointed, and soon discovered the second floor exposed in the hole on the ship. In a cabin where half of the items were burnt, a strange horn that faintly reflected the firelight lay quietly in the ashes.
That seemed to be the thing that Euron's people blew earlier in an attempt to influence Viserys, suspected to be the legendary "Dragon Horn". It seemed to have been blown there by the fireball explosion.
Viserys called out to the Unsullied who were about to evacuate: "Wait, there." He gathered a cluster of flame rays in his mouth and spit them precisely at the location of the horn, "Go, someone, bring that thing." After thinking for a moment, he added, "Don't touch it directly, wrap it in leather and bring it back to the ship."
Originally, I wanted to explain the cause and effect of this encounter, including how Euron happened to appear in Astapor, how he met Viserys and Daenerys in Astapor, and what was his motive for attacking Viserys' fleet.
It may be that he happened to see Daenerys doing something seemingly crazy and became interested in her, or his crew happened to run into the red monk offering a dragon egg, or he just wanted to grab one on a whim and happened to meet Viserys.
But I have set up several motives for Euron, but I don’t plan to write them clearly in the end, because the protagonist Viserys is a person with such a personality. If he had contact with Euron before, he would try to deal with him at sea. But if he wrote that the action at sea failed, it would make the protagonist look stupid.
So in the end I decided not to describe Euron’s motives directly, but only describe the truth he guessed in the subsequent plot from Viserys’ perspective.
