Chapter 87 Goodbye Mindatis
Chapter 87 Goodbye Mindatis
Perhaps it was because the ghouls would go out to look for food at night, and that was all that Ron and his team encountered. When the team carefully passed through the third and fourth floors, they hardly encountered any monsters. Instead, there were more and more gold and other metal deposits.
But at this time, even Driver had lost interest in treasure hunting. His nerves were highly tense, and he was vigilantly observing every corner and turn.
"I don't like this atmosphere," Sera muttered, "I would rather a large group of ghouls rush out now than beware of possible ambushes in the dark."
"It's like I'm the prey."
"It can't be helped," Ivy said as she walked in front. "Come to think of it, do you smell it? It seems like the further we go, the stronger the smell becomes."
"Demon?" Ron's heart skipped a beat. This was not a narrow terrain like a tunnel. With the agility of that thing, Ivy might not be able to protect them.
"No, it's the smell of rotting food," Driver said in a deep voice, "There are so many corpses piled up in front, they are all stinking."
In most cases, rotting corpses indicate a long time has passed, but this is a mine that is hundreds of years old. How could there be so many rotting corpses?
Ron and the others immediately quickened their pace and soon found the source of the smell - it was a hall-like space where countless corpses and debris of all kinds were piled up, emitting an unpleasant pungent smell.
"It looks like this is a den of ghouls," Sylvia took out a handkerchief and covered her nose with it. "There are quite a few dead bodies of wild animals here. They must have been dragged in from the swamp outside."
"Maybe there are clues here from when they were still conscious?" Ron walked over, trying to resist the discomfort of the pungent smell, and prepared to look through it. But before he took two steps, the goblin hit him with an iron rock from behind and knocked him to the ground.
"Boss, watch out for your head!"
Ron rolled on the ground, narrowly avoiding the huge shadow that was swooping down from above his head.
Driver reacted the fastest and earliest, and used all the ammunition from the shortbow in his hand to attack the creature that launched the sneak attack. The other companions reacted one after another, and sparks flew when their weapons and shells collided. Finally, under Sera's powerful axe, the ferocious giant insect that was almost the size of a human was chopped in two.
"Carrion eaters, these creatures love to lie on the ceiling and launch sneak attacks."
Driver kicked the dead bug and said, "We occasionally saw this thing in our previous nest."
"Thanks to Driver," Sylvia wiped the cold sweat from her forehead, "This thing is also poisonous. It would be terrible if Ron was entangled by it."
"Thank you." Ron was still frightened. This thing had the ability to crawl, and it was pitch black and non-reflective. It would not be easy to notice even on the ground, let alone a sneak attack from the ceiling.
"You're so polite--" Driver was about to interrupt with a chuckle, but he became serious again. An arrow covered with the slime of carrion beetles was placed on the bowstring and pointed towards the way they came.
"What the hell, get out!"
"Pah, pah, pah"
In the darkness, a slender figure walked out while clapping. He was wearing a complicated dress, gorgeous but not hindering his movements; a silver rapier was tucked at his waist, and he wore a pair of deerskin boots. His long golden hair fell on his shoulders, revealing his long pointed ears, and his green eyes were like shining gems in the darkness.
Behind him, a man with horns on his head, a long tail and red skin like a devil followed closely, holding a long stick with iron hoops at both ends.
"I have to thank you, too, Ron. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to get here so easily." "Mindatis, Quest!"
Ron's face darkened and Ivy immediately blocked him behind her.
Almost everyone present knew who Quest was, but Sylvia didn't know him at all, so she treated Mindatis and him equally.
"You are Mindatis?" Sylvia curled her lips. "The elf guy is not bad looking, but it's a pity that he is not my type."
"You were the one who asked the slave traders in Carolina to capture Ron? Thanks to you, I wouldn't have been free otherwise."
"I didn't expect the people of Carolina to be such a loser," Mindatis snorted coldly, his eyes cold, "If you don't want to be caught again, you'd better get out of here. I'm not interested in dead people."
"You're following us?" Ivy raised her eyebrows. "I don't know who resurrected you, but it seems you haven't learned your lesson."
"Ron, take care of your lackeys!" Mindatis gritted his teeth. "If it was before, I would say you are a wimp who can only hide behind a woman, but now I know that you are qualified to be on an equal footing with me, so let me, as your senior, teach you: don't let your men talk too much!"
"I have no interest in being 'on equal' with the loser who died at my hands," Ron held out his hands to make quotation marks, "How did you find yourself here?"
"Me?" Mindatis casually stretched out his fingers and looked at his neatly trimmed nails. "Of course I am following in the footsteps of my predecessors. What about you?"
"What a coincidence," Sera showed her two rows of fangs, "Mindatis, you sissy better get out of here right away. We are the ones who cleaned up everything here, don't even think about taking advantage of us!"
"Really? But my employer probably wouldn't think so." It seemed that from the beginning, Mindatis seemed confident, and it was hard not to suspect that he had some backup plan.
"Employer? The one behind you?"
“No, no, no, there’s my follower behind me.” Mindatis took a step to the right and then took three steps back. “My employer is the one above you.”
"You mean Victor? Come on, Mindatis, stop talking so smoothly," Victoria looked at the elf with disdain, "Victor only cares about his town and it's impossible for him to get involved in the affairs of the Hailan Empire."
"Oh, Ron. That's why I said, take care of your men," Mindatis sighed, "You see, their intelligence is obviously insufficient, but they still like to show off."
"Are my puns that bad?"
"Pun, you mean--" Ron looked up, but heard a loud bang, and rubble of varying sizes and a huge figure fell from above towards his head!
"Oh, sorry," Mindatis said, with his hands behind his back, "Should I introduce my employer?"
"Giant, these are thieves who stole your food - kill them!"
